(WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go awry. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.

@@timioged9294 Standing up for yourself isn't excactly easy mate. Sometimes you do it, but the bullies bother you even more. Sometimes you get insecure and wonder: "What if they're right?" Sometimes you just don't want to talk to anybody and take what they throw at you. Like me for example, my dad never lets me defend myself whenever we have verbal conflicts, so whenever I remember that I do find it difficult to defend myself against others people.

It's not her fault but she definitely would need to learn to stand up for herself but on her own time because everyone is different. Also it's not true that she would get bullied for the rest of her life because once adulthood hits it pretty much goes away. Also you don't tell the victim it's their fault right in front of the bully. That's Literally common sense. You can't expect every teenager to know how to stand up for themselves as they are just kids.

It’s easier in some ways to just detach yourself from the situation, and pretend like it isn’t happening. Maybe it’s just me but like when you’re considered “different” and also am sensitive and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, it can be even harder. Bullying is always completely wrong and unacceptable and should not be justified under any circumstances. When someone is being bullied, it is never their fault. Bullying someone is always wrong. A person being bullied not explicitly asking for the bullying to stop is not giving permission for the bullying to continue. There are some disabilities that can potentially make “standing up for oneself” or advocating for oneself or explicitly asking for bullying to stop more challenging. It can be challenging to advocate for oneself and for one to explicitly ask for bullying to stop even if one does not have a disability. Fear at the moment, power dynamics and/or other factors can contribute to advocating for oneself being challenging at the moment. If one is unable to explicitly ask for bullying to stop at the moment the that the bullying is happening I would advise them to physically leave the bullies if they can do so safely, for their own safety and to show they don’t condone the bullying. Advocating for oneself is a good skill to learn however bullying is NEVER the fault of the person the bullying is directed at. Bullying is never okay.

"It's your fault" is again blaming the victim. Someone that young may not have the strength to stand up against the bullies or may not even know how to do so. Although his intentions were good, better words should've been used and addressed to the bullies rather than the victim. Someone being bullied needs love, support, compassion, motivation, and ultimately guidance how to protect themselves.

That first guy should know that trying to stand up to bullies by beating them up is more than likely the worst thing to do, since that's probably something that they'd want their victim to do for laughs. It's not the girl's fault for not being able to stand up for herself, since it can be a really hard thing for everyone to do if they are in such a situation. If anything, it's that guy's fault for being such a lousy giver of advice.

It's not a simple ''Period'' You can't draw simple conclusions from a super complex topic/issue. As someone who've gotten bullied and studied psychology for a year before dropping out. I know that psychology isn't black and white, and people treating it as such in this instance with bullying as an example doesn't help a damn thing. There are plenty of instances where it is the ''victims'' fault.

It can be challenging to advocate for oneself and for one to explicitly ask for bullying to stop even if one does not have a disability (fear at the moment, power dynamic and/or other factors that contribute to advocating for oneself being challenging at the moment). If one is unable to explicitly ask for bullying to stop at the moment the that the bullying is happening I would advise them to walk or run away from the bullies if at all feasible, for their own safety and to show they don’t condone the bullying. Advocating for oneself is a good skill to learn however bullying is NEVER the fault of the person the bullying is directed at. Bullying is never okay.

@@flourish7729 I completely understood his tone - I have seen my mother react similarly because I have never had the balls to stand up for myself, which can concern any parent quite greatly. My mom simply wants me to be strong, and grow up not being dependent on other people to stand up for me whenever I'm in such trouble. As an adult, you come to understand that even if people are not necessarily nice toward you it's actually your fault, as in your responsibility, if you let it bring you down. You have the power to stop it, to stop caring that much. No one else can do that for you. I have been bullied myself. I relied on other people for so long but whenever I was alone and people picked on me, I wasn't able to stand up for myself and ran home to cry. Until I stopped caring.

@PooStinky No, the Bible says that the people in the world believe we ought to do eye for eye and tooth for tooth but that Christians ought to turn the other cheek, love our neighbors and enemies as much as we love ourselves and love God above all else, and call upon the Holy Spirit to fight our battles for us because vengeance is the Lord's and we ought to be still. Matthew 5:38-39 "You have heard that it was said, an 'eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." 1 Thessalonians 5:15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
