What would you do when you think no one is watching? What Would You Do? (WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go awry. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.

As a sorority woman, this breaks my heart to know that this happens. The point of being in a sorority is to promote unity and sisterhood and kindness and inclusion. To anyone who has experienced what this young woman has, I am so sorry and know that you have allies within this community who are pushing for everyone to feel included and welcomed.
@VadulTharys

Our sister sorority had a lovely woman with MS, and another with Downs Syndrome. The other 5 sororities on campus never understood why we chose them as our sisters. We were the best looking, and all of us were either pre med or pre law, and always the most popular male students on campus. One sorority actually asked our president why we had the "broken sisters" as our sisters. His response has stayed with me my whole life. "They are not pretty, popular, or gifted, but they are what any man really wants in a woman. Strong, kind, loyal and caring." He was right, and my brothers and I still adore those ladies after 35 years.

If I could remember correctly, human nature has us preferring a sence of "normalcy" so when we see somebody that isn't "normal", then we'll most likely interact with them differently. Of course, only the most wicked of us will try to degrade someone based on a condition that is (usually) out of their control. The majority of people will notice but they'll probably be nice.

You’re right. From the get go we as a society “other” people with disabilities. For the most part society is on the outside looking in and not actually integrating with disabled people as far as school and work environments. Even if there is interaction it tends to be superficial and not go beyond the surface. They may be nice to them but not actual include or befriend them. To do so you have to really strip away that aspect of “other”.

@Cran1um92 Maybe it was like that only at your school. In my schools, there were people with all kinds of disabilities in the same classroom, except the down syndrome kids were in a classroom of their own. To integrate them would not be that hard though. Just teach normally and give grades to the down syndrome students at the ability that they are. The students without down syndrome understand this, so there is no problem doing this for down syndrome students.
@ssharkbait
@ssharkbait 3 жыл бұрын
Cran1um92 what you’re describing definitely isn’t the norm. It’s not about just putting them in the same classroom but involving them as much as possible when possible. Like you mentioned electives are a good way, as well as after school activities and clubs. It doesn’t have to be a necessarily academic setting especially if the child isn’t at the same learning level. Even if the kids had lunch and recess together it doesn’t mean they are interacting. We had a kid in our class in 7th grade who took some special education courses as well standard curriculum courses. People didn’t understand how to communicate with him. He was ignored or bullied. The teacher wasn’t any help at all. It got so bad he was pulled from standard curriculum classes altogether. Our lunches were together with the special education students but they were basically ostracized. That’s why proactive and early integration is important. It leads to less stigma about those with various disabilities through proper one one one exposure.

Disappointed and discouraged. And I thought I wouldn't try again. But now I would like to try again in this year's semester for the autumn season. And how do I know that it'll work? Well a number of people have confidence in me such as my mom and dad even a friend of mine who was a student at a community college.

They don't deserve the company of this beautiful girl. She has more kindness and character than these two put together. I realize these are just actors and probably friends but you do get such selfish narrow-minded people in real life and they really do ruin it for everyone. Unable to see anything beyond their superficial made up little worlds and this is all they will ever end up with.

Im so sorry this happened to you. God bless you sweetie. These things don’t go unnoticed, trust me, they will pay for what they did. Do the right thing, stand your ground and keep your head up. Smile and do what is right and kind. Don’t let their negativity change you. Be the light the world needs so much. I was bullied a lot for many years and this really touched me. At some point, I let it change me and I was sad and angry and ended up doing things I really regret. Please, don’t let them destroy you, that’s what they want. You’re loved and you deserve to be happy. Treat people with respect and kindness and always stand up for others when they’re going through the same thing as you did. I’m going to pray for you, I know how bad it hurts. But trust me, God is going to honor you. He changed me completely, I am happy and I no longer struggle with some emotional issues I had due to bullying. I met amazing people who were nice to me and so many good things happened. This is not the end, you have a beautiful life ahead of you. Don’t let those people ruin what God is planing for you. I love you and I care so much about you. Please never forget that you’re beautiful and so so so loved.

I remember being in a modelling hobby store when a lady came in with her son. I had seen him at my school (he was third form/Year 9 and I was 7th/Year 13-last year) He had a form of ADHD and his mother was trying to introduce him to a hobby and give him something to focus on. One of the staff went over trying to do the usual push product on her but when the kid started growling and pulling his shirt over his head the staff member pulled a face and said "What a freak" and walked off. The mother was left looking distraught and the kid was confused. I went over and greeted him by name. I began showing him one of the starter sets and he sat interested. When he wandered off or growled or whatever I'd just wait for him to come back and then carry on. Eventually he was excited by the prospect so his mother bought him that box. She said to the manager "I was about to walk out after one of your staff was rude but this staff member helped he" the manager looked at me and said "He doesn't work here" to which the woman said firmly "Maybe he should!" and left with young Andrew. The manager gave me a dirty look and I just looked back as if to say "I wouldn't want to work with you anyway".
