This vehicle is to pricey. It's probable the most expensive IFV of the world. Because of this Rheinmetall created the Lynx for other customers. There is the possibility that the new american main IFV will become based on the lynx which is a exceptional well designed vehicle.

It's not the armor or the cannon that make the Puma so exceptionally good, Although both are very good, it's the built-in technology and the entire concept. During combat, the Puma is permanently connected to the dismounted crew via radio and video and vice versa, which means the Pumpa is closed t he maximum overview of the war zone at all times and can react extremely quickly. Whoever shoots first or can take cover wins the fight.

You really forget the key feature (also expensive for the tax payer with approx currently crazy 750 - 1.000 € per round ...), i.e. the programmable AHEAD airburst round ;-) Side note: The 30mm canon is "dual feed", triple and a turret with a bit more ammo storage might have been more clever to add a 3rd more cost efficient 30mm ammo type.
@abhishekparmar6702

i have never understood, because ive always observed, germans being able to design and produce very effectively but somehow always their final execution is always bungled. for example, germany can design and produce Lynx and Puma, and has all the industrial capacity to produce en masse, but as you said rounds are brutally expensive; so is initial acquisition cost and so is maintenance. Why in the world would they not produce something that is slightly more cost effective is beyond me.
@zhufortheimpaler4041
@zhufortheimpaler4041 Жыл бұрын
@@abhishekparmar6702 you want the best for your men in the field, so its expensive. yes there are cheaper options, but those are cheaper because someone else made the investment to develope the technology for them. For example: Puma has a unit price of about 17m euros, Lynx 10m euros. But why is Lynx that much cheaper, even though it is in respect to technology just a little bit downgraded? Because the technology that is used in Lynx is based on the Puma programme. The developement cost of the technology was covered with Puma, wich made Puma significantly more expensive. So everybody that now buys the "off the shelf" solution Lynx for around 10m€ a piece because it is comparably cheap and highly effective, benefits from the initial iinvestment germany made with Puma. If everybody buys off the shelf, there will be next to no technological innovation and developement.

Dual Feed because you only need armor piercing loadout for harder targets (IFV´s, APC´s etc) and a HE-FRAG-Airburst loadout for the rest. What do you want to feed via the third feed? Paintballs? If you shoot at MBT´s you use SPIKE-LR (MELLS)

I love these vehicles. I wonder though what the industry is cooking against the small drone threat. Tiny fpv drones and bomb dropping big drones etc. I would assume some small anti drone turret is in the making to detect and neutralize this new threat. I certainly hope the new Nordic cv90 project is on top of this problem. It would be unproffesional not to react and adapt.

the Puma whipped the floor with the latest CV90 versions during Czech IFV trails... of all tested IFV there the Puma was the only one taken from active service ... the BW gave one from the trails.. all other IFV were factory nannyed testbatch vehicle... some remarkable records... Puma was the ONLY IFV during the test without any technical problems!!! Puma won the shooting with main gun by LIGTHYEARS... the second best had HALF the hits on target ... more astonishing... of all burst fired by the Puma during the life fire test a single round missed the target.. not to mention Puma was the only IFV that had their fire trails during a heavy strom with strong winds... The only reason Czech did not choose the Puma was money... overall it was the best in protection, firepower and accuracy, reliablity and mobility... but it was to expansive and the changes the Czech wanted would had made it even more expansive... but as always ..you get what you paid for... you get no S-Class for the price of a Polo
@cathulhu-q7y

@@nagmashot the reason Puma would have been too expensive for the Czech MOD is, because they wanted to replace the MK30-2ABM with a Bushmaster II Chaingun, to have 30x173mm belt commonality with their other vehicles. (both guns have the same caliber, 30x173mm, but different and incompatible belt systems) the integration of the different feed system and storage would have raised the unit price over what the Czech were willing to pay.
