they were talking in reference to the old Marder 1 IFV not any allied IFV. Firepowerwise theres the 40mm cannon on the Swedish CV90 . Protection and mobilitywise though - it is simply the best. And a 30mm with modern subcamiber muniton is as deadly as it needs to be.

Wait until the US Army with the M1 Abrams get to Ukraine with the New Trophy System installed. The Army in a field test fired 48 times at a Abrams and not one round hit the M1 Abrams the Trophy System took out all 48 rounds fired at the Abrams.

what do you want with 1000+ Marder 1 with no crews?
@zhufortheimpaler40416 ай бұрын
1. no personnel to operate them. 2. Marder 1 is getting VERY old and the hulls and drive components are worn out beyond saving. They can have "a good second live" in Ukraine, but Marder is more or less in its final years. Metal Fatigue, wearing out fittings etc etc. The last Marder was produced 50 years ago. The Bundeswehr is also replacing older Leopard 2´s due to age related metal fatigue etc.

Well that’s why you try to avoid getting hit ;-) It has in the latest version with MUSS an active protection system that automatically creates a smoke barrier and deploys an infrared jammer to mess up the guidance of ATGMs. Thus it’s quite capable of avoiding getting hit by ATGMs from long distances.

@@kriegscommissarmccraw4205 except it is armor is much better, uses a Fire and Forget ATGM and has air burst munitions in its main gun (dont think Bradley uses those). But you are right, high numbers are going to win individual engagements. But for irregular warfare the added optics, armament and armor might be a huge boost to survivability and combat effectiveness.

everything is a target in war, i dont get where ppl. get the idea from that a tank/armored vehicle has to be invincible to be usefull.... u could also argue that an apache is just another target for an MANPAD, SPAAG and what not, hell the USA lost Apaches to rifle fire in Iraq. so they changed completely their doctrine and dont use AH´s as an offensive weapon anymore. there is still need for armored vehicles, or how else do u cross wide open fields without cover? and btw. even if a vehicle is only protected against small arms and artillery fragements, that is pretty much 90% of the threats u face on the battlefield. real life is not like a PC game where u quickly spawn with an AT weapon, ATGM`s are realitve rare in most infantry squads. and if they would model tanks realisticly in arcadei'sh games like Battlefield etc. u wouldnt have much fun as an food soldier, hands down.
