I think the uneven pressure made the threads fail too early. It's like being cross threaded. Some portions of the threads were taking a lot more force onto a smaller area.

Haha cool. I have been managing bolting projects, M72 bolts in wind turbines. We used to pull them to yield, fix the nut and release the tension in the bolt. Every bolt was calibrated and had an intellifast sensor + Qr code (with the bolt characteristics) in the bolthead so we could measure the realtime tension + acces the bolt parameters in the database. Since we had to handcarry the hydraulick jacks we needed light ones, downside is they operated at 3000bars....

It seems silly and obvious, but, is it the same force required to push a bolt into a nut than pushing (or pulling) it out?
@ripstop50822 ай бұрын
There are no silly questions if you gain knowledge. Standard threads are uniform. A 60 deg.thread is 30 on each side. You can flip the nut around and thread it on the bolt. Pushing a bolt out is the same as pushing it in from the opposite direction. There are special purpose threads that only mesh in one direction. You cannot turn the nut around. These threads will take different pressures to destroy depending on the direction of force. A buttress thread is an excellent example of this. I've never cooked with cows. How are they at Fettuccine Alfredo? There shouldn't be any conflict of conscience with that one. =)
