Pretty Valid take to be fair. I think it’s just one of those things that makes it weird when you have artillery both as models and separate game mechanics. I wish they could have linked them for example; for every [Indirect fire] unit, a friendly infantry unit gains the stealth key word. Not sure if I made sense

In theory you can use the over the top strat for 1 cp if you have Creed issue the order, and a possible 0 cp if she is in a unit with a vox caster and you make the 4+ roll.

Warming up to getting 3 of the new artillery pieces. Basilisks are an all time favorite model but these look more thematic on the field. As for rules though, earthshaker rounds have only made a difference so far a few times at best so, eh

Honestly I think for at least non tournament games most people would be fine with you saying you'll use them as basilisks but you won't move them, at a base size of 130mm they're getting pretty close to basilisk size.

One of my biggest pet peeves with this detachment is the "more than 12' away from enemy units" for the aggressive options. For one it means that most armies with infiltrators, lone ops and scouts can almost immediately turn those options off, and from a flavor perspective, there are more than a few Guard commanders who would be more than willing to shell their own men to obstruct the enemy. Maybe give allied units a chance to take mortal wounds when danger close? Or even giving them the debuff from the shelling as well as the enemy?

You could give orders to all the stuff you want take aim on then do the order for move move move. I got my eyes on using the Karkin, 3 units of them one being led by a Castellan with the scout enhancement. The 3 move up, they all order themselves to FRFSRF and he orders the move move move and even the Kasrkin will get it and they are the ones that hold the line much like in the Cadia Stands novel.

Of all the detachments, I was most excited about this one. Everyone I've heard play it has said it's fun-ish and fluffy but definitely not strong. With all the nerfs to my favourite units and some of my favourites going to legends I've been really put off the hobby.

Incendiary Bombardment is a massive boost for Indirectly. Combine it with some Exterminators prowling around and you can get S12 Ap -3 on the SIege guns

Indirect fire was a mistake it should the basilisk'/wyverns RULE like on their datasheet and literally only those 2. they should delete it from the game entirely it's not fun at all

Its almost weirder to say "imagine this 200mm cannon needs to angle up to hit a target about 100m away." its just normalized from past additions, but almost none of the arty you can bring make sense actually being on the field except maybe mortars.

@@StormtalusIt makes about as much sense as a laser weapons and bolt guns having a less than 100 m range and the projectiles or energy just vanishing. If we are talking realism, then everywhere on the board should be targetable for shooting if you can see it.

Trench fighters strategem feels like it would be cool if it gave normal infantry some kind of bonus in melee, like +1A, +1 to wound or +1AP. Just something to use up the average guardsman a bit. Stalwarts honor enhancement would have been really cool on a DK Marshal in a full Krieg squad, but you know, GW nuked him QQ .

I really like the idea of this detachment and I feel like it’s so close to being perfect but it missed with a couple key things. Most of the Strats seem pretty great other than fight on death which needs to be shoot on death or changed for something else because it’s basically worthless in guard. I don’t like the huge focus on the platoon keyword as it’s way too limiting for no reason. Why can’t Kasrkin learn to shoot more or why can’t combat engineers use a minefield. Balance wise I really doubt letting regiment be the keyword for most Strats over platoon is going to break the game. The detachment rule is really cool and I love the flexibility but it seems at odds with the rest of the detachment that wants you to get close while the main rule wants you to keep your distance. It’s fun rules but I think it has a lot of issues.

I hate detachment rules where you have to roll in order to benefit from them. Much less on 5+..... So they day one nerfed it to where you can only do it to 3 units in most games and you still have to roll a 5+ for it!! Like he said its pretty much useless and will almost never happen to units you want it to happen to. If the detachment rule was that broken then why even have it? Make it a 4+ or something or maybe a guarantee effect on only 1 unit?? At least everything else about the detachment is pretty good

Been a long while since I played (back from 7th edition) : Eager advance I am thinking could be good for backing up some engineers with a more filled out squad of infantry? A whole section of the army scout moving forwards and combined with "over the top" they have a 6 inch scout, move 6+3 for 15 inch threat zone and can advance if needed? Could work well to rush forwards to claim an objective right? Also, with over the top, would that go off every Vox-casters rule? so every infantry squad with a vox being able to roll a 5+ to get you a CP if they have an officer near them? Afterall, the units are being targeted with a stratagem, are next to an officer?

I believe you should read the stratagem Over the top again. I have never played a game before, so take it with a grain of salt, but considering your question regarding the vox casters, I do believe the target of the stratagem is in fact a friendly officer who is then able during this phase (round i guess? not quite sure because it says until the end of this phase, which would be your current command phase) to issue the order Move Move Move to "every elligible friendly" Infantry regiment regardless of number or distance on the battlefield. Therefore the stratagem targets the officer and not the unit(s) with the vox caster(s), otherwise you may spent 2 CP to have the chance of trying to regain a number of CP equal to your infantry squads with a vox ----> so lets say 6 squads ---> 6 d5+ CP, becoming 6 d4+ as long as a friendly officer is in range of 6" No idea of balancing but spending 2 CP to gain 6 sounds broken ;)

@@PapaWhiskey174 Yes, the Death Korps infantry squad is the Kill Team box. Just make sure to build them according to the 40k rules, as the manual encourages you to build all the KT options that aren't in the 40K squad. (demo guy, spotter,....)

On the siege regiment detachment rule, has it changed because I thought it said before if any enemy was within 12 it didn't work so any army with infiltrate or anything is a no. Reading it here it works on units more than 12in away even if another unit is engaged with you.

GW just needs to stop valuing shooting into combat so heavily. When you can always just fall back 75% of the time and be better off. Considering you're spending a command point I think it would be fine to just be able to shoot into combat without spill over mortals. If they must, make it on a 5+. The over the top strat is also way over costed. For 2 CP It should give infantry move move move as an additional order still able to get their usual. I just don't see why it would be useful unless you build a list around it and then it still not good. The detachment looks fine I don't want to sound like I think it's bad it just has a lot of I'll barely use this stratagems and then The ones you will use are not great just decent. Detachment rule is good though. I just think it doesn't stand up to combined arms, just like pretty much every other detachment except maybe the mechanized one. I see what they are going for with this detachment in terms of the playstyle they want you to have, But it just doesn't feel amazing? There's a lot of nonbos between half of it wanting you to stay >12" away from the enemy and the other half wanting you to be right up close. And again I think that's an interesting design space the way they want you to start effective from far away and sort of switch into other stratagems once your infantry closes, But if that's going to be the game plan the stratagems need to be solid and something you're going to want to always use when you're in that situation. I don't feel like a split game plan like that has room for niche stratagems you might use once every three games.

Over the top should absolutely just boost movement to allow orders to still work. Maybe put in a clause like “if this unit is under the effect of ‘MOVE, MOVE, MOVE’ it does not gain +3 inches” to avoid guardsmen sprinting around the board 12 inches at a time.
