It might had been localizers' filler but that was unironically much closer to the truth than most fans even suspect. Let's not forget that Goku after having the received the best training Earth (including its GOD) could offer and regardless of the experience and multiple zenkais he received during his adventures by far weaker than even Raditz when they met and his powerless was significantly lower than average Saiyan's. Goku's main strength is his adaptability, ability to easily soak techniques from teachers and opponents and overall tactical GENIUS in combat. It might be easily to dismiss Goku as an idiotic buffoon but people tend to forget he is a battle savant with LITERAL BRAIN DAMAGE (that Bardock had not). Bardock was probably the closest to a "scientist" a Saiyan could get, who, as indicated in the OG OVA, could come up with maneuvers, techniques and tactics that could give him an edge even against fighters with significantly higher powerlevels, and, headcannony as it might be, potentially could have even learnt to hide his powerlevel. .

And for Vegeta to call them signature slaps must mean he suffered them himself and for him to use it as a threat against Goku must mean it is a force to be reckoned with. The average human power level is between 5 and 10, with exceptionally skilled humans such as Master Roshi, Krillin or Nam having power levels over that of 100. Bulma has 12 so even if she isn’t a martial artist she’s still above average humans. When you can make a guy who can hold his own against Beerus fear you slapping him, you are clearly not below the average.

The thing is there is no way in the world gas was near the ginyu force. In the bardock special one of the soldiers tells bardock that he is catching up to king vegeta ergo 18000, and that if king vegeta finds out, he will kill him and that's close to when frieza destroys their planet. So they probably were fighting at over 10000 range at most, there is no way king vegeta would of let bardock stay alive if he was that much more stronger than him that early in the story and it happens way before frieza destroys them, so if that is the case I would argue toyotoro didn't read and watch enough.

It's a little funny that people get mad at the whole bardock wish thing at the end and will claim that it gave goku plot armor throughout og db and dbz which could be somewhat true but it's like everyone completely forgets that even with this "wish" bardock made. Goku in the original timeline (Future Trunks timeline) still dies. Raditz his other son also still dies and never returns. Goku dies also against piccolo and cell.. the wish just seems to be like bardock just having like a "good father moment" for wishing his sons well while most saiyan's don't really care for their offspring.

@@acidicalien6477 To "thrive" in general has a lot of meanings, the translation or toyotaro in general probably intentionally used that word exactly to leave edge for these kinds of interpretations coming from generally not that great reading comprehension. Thriving can mean longetivity, thriving can mean sustainability, things that both raditz and goku have reached by the start of z, we could assume that the wish probably had no more effect after raditz was recruited by vegeta in the first place and the moment goku could have sustainable life once he landed on earth and gohan found him. To "thrive" in the realest sense would be to have a life that is generally not all that bad, aside from being slandered, raditz had foot to eat, power at his disposal compared to weaker species, and the ability to conquer planets, goku on the other hand had a literal father figure that would feed him, and a whole forest that he could get food from. Bardock did in fact have his wish fulfilled, it's kind of ignorant to assume that "thriving" would be the same as being sucessful, if it was word for word sucessful, I'd have a hard time believing that the wish wasn't BS, but seeing as the literal dictonary has a ton of different meanings for the word, I'd say it's best to take it as something that fits the situation, not something that you think thriving should be. But no worries at the end of it all, it is in fact a pretty common mistake for people to think that they know a word only to be baffled by the fact that it has a lot more meanings than the one that they took for granted.

Bardock is secretly very powerful because he gets a lot of zenkai boosts. In the original Bardock movie the saiyans in the bar laugh at him "look Bardock nearly died again! LULLUL" this just proves that he is always on the razors edge in a battle and going all out. In that movie he gets a zenkai boost when he fights Dodoria and his gang but barely escapes with his life. Most saiyans don't take damage, seek to spar with each other, or seem to realize they can have zenkai boosts (Vegeta gets it in the Namek Series). They prefer to strike when victory is assured, turn into their Ozaru form, and easily brutalize entire planets. Bardock's squad is the exception with even Frieza's henchmen saying they took down several planets that even their "elites" were having difficulty with. This ironically could've been the last straw in Frieza's mind making him call for them to gather on Planet Vegeta and betraying them all collectively. Frieza went as far as sending his third in command and a gang of "elites" to personally take out Bardock and his squad further driving the issue Bardock and gang were personally getting "too strong", becoming a threat, and liable to see the return to Planet Vegeta as a trap. His crew did receive, laugh at, and disregard the order to return to Vegeta. Bardock's crew would've survived had his squad not been sneak attacked and killed by assassin elites after a battle without Bardock around. Bardock too could've survived if he hadn't sought revenge for his fallen comrades. TLDR: Bardock is that guy. Frieza knew it and took every action to narrowly eliminate a huge threat to his reign.

Wrong. Z Bardock literally got one shotted by a half-dead fish man. His teammate then kills the fish guy with a generic ki blast. This proves Bardock was the weakest member of his team. Bardock then struggled against 4 generic Frieza army guys and only lands killing blows on 2 of them. Keep in mind, these Frieza guys are WEAKER than Namekians with power levels of only 3000. He then gets one shotted again by Dodoria, then at the end gets one shotted by Frieza. Z Bardock was a weakling.

It was claws in the back of the neck at the base of the skull, injecting the future sight ability, and a sneak attack at that. Didn't struggle against those 4 dudes until the visions started... and still won. Got hit by didoria, survived and immediately went to planet Vegeta half dead, flew into space ( saiyans can't breathe in outer space, that's why frieza was blowing up namek) and then stomped the frieza army before yeah, getting one shotted by base form frieza. Dude was an absolute beast.

Idk if you've ever seen a picture of a whole planet, but it's always taken out in space bc you can't get the whole planet in the pic otherwise. I'd theorize that Bardock was a former high ranked Sayian (possibly around the time of Turles or Raditz's youth), before his growing defiance or paranoia of Frieza's deception resulted in his demotion to the lower ranks (when Goku was conceived or born).

@@JtheBOSS sorry, IMO it's headcanon, Turles the angry firstborn that was disowned for rebellion, maybe why Bardock was demoted to avoid banishment (guilt by association), too valuable to kill, too risky to banish, so King Vegeta settled to demote Bardock to maintain control of the number Sayians Bardock has to command, dunno one theory of many. Also why; to have had so many direct offspring, Bardock must've been really high on the Sayian hierarchy. Since the subject of biological mothers seem so rare, Sayian reproduction may have been limited to surrogacy and artificial wombs (the capsules). but "reproductive rights" were given only to higher ranks, the more offspring per warrior is the goal. which makes it odd to question why there's so few female Saiyans, was it Freiza's method of population control?

Saiyans are born into a caste system. Their power level at birth determines their rank and it lasts their entire life. Vegeta and his dad were elietes. Nappa, Raditz and 8 others were mid level fighters. Bardock and every other Saiyan were considered low level warriors.

Regarding the "state other than Great Ape", I think they may have referenced it in DBZ Kakarot's Bardock DLC. It uses Z Bardock, but they give him a transformation that is kinda similar called "Spirit of the Warrior Race". And it is JUST an aura, no change at all in terms of hair.

If I remember correctly, Raditz was stated to be powerful at birth but he had a fear of death therefore never pushed himself too hard. Its possible that Raditz could have achieved similar heights as goku if he hadnt feared death and pushing himself. Its likely Raditz hadnt experienced much zenkai boosts due to nothing allowing himself to be pushed to a near death state. The one thing Im curious about is it possible all sayians can achieve super sayian however all at different levels of power and peak ability. It would be weird to think that all sayians can basically achieve levels beyond super sayian 3. Im also curious if super sayian god is something that would vary in power for the sayian in question.

Goku and Vegeta both died and came back to life before reaching Super Saiyan and Broly is a mutant. Before he died on Namek, Vegeta in base and without his tail had a power level of around 2M and woulda been the strongest saiyan on record for at least the last 3 generations not including Goku and Broly(he wasn’t on record😂) and definitely since before something like scouters were invented. So if the legend is true and it’s a once every thousand years or about 10 generations, Goku Vegeta and Broly all being exceptions, there’s room for one more super saiyan to naturally emerge. Plug n play from that. Without the Namek saga Vegeta isn’t sniffing 2M so this random saiyan would be around 500k. Great Ape would get u to 5M and then Super Saiyan gets u to 250M assuming Base to Great Ape to Super Saiyan is the natural trajectory. From there, it’s easy to imagine a great ape being able to use the graded forms of super saiyan. Those should be nothing to the ape body BUT it probably drives this random saiyan crazy at this point. Assuming this random saiyan keeps his tail lol

I like to think that Bardock's power level before death was never officially measured as it never says how the Saiyan army goes about recording their power levels. Plus Bardock's scouter keeps getting destroyed my headcanon is that the scouters record their users current power level and upload it when they return from a mission. Other possibility is that Bardock since he knows some people can supress their power can likely do so to an extent. That would explain why Gash doubts him being low class once he sees how strong he is despite Bardock officially being ranked low class.

So I think I may be able to clarify things a little. The way that the class system was set up was very direct. When the saiyan child is birthed their power level is assesed. This initial power level assesment is ment to determine their potential and class is assigned. Family name would play a large part as well. Even if the royal or high class families baby is born with a low class power level they still carry genetics of powerful ancestors. Consider this, Broly was born with a freakishly high power level and it got him and his dad screwed because his potential was insanly high. Somehow though Goku was able to disturb Broly during the baby scenes even though he had a low power level. Here is my theory, imagine Bardok and Goku's true potential power like a lightbulb. Now imagine that this lightbulb mostly stays off but slightly flickers every now and then for just a micro second. Now imagine every type of saiyan form as a color of light. As the saiyan tries to take on a form he/she choses a color of light and the attempts to flicker the light bulb on repeatedly until they can get it to stay on for a span of time. Gohan having access to human adrenaline gives him a advantage in turning on the lightbulbs as you see demonstrated when he busted a hole thru a tree as a infant with no training.

The biggest thing people forget is the Saiyan society split, I reckon these freakishly powerful Saiyans are the remnants of the other Saiyans. You look at them all, they are kind, loving and passionate. Even Vegeta and Bardock have these traits. The weaker Saiyans which we see probably went to one of Frieza's ancestors begging for help only to end subjugated. Unless we know more about that split, we can only speculate. We can ask where the other Saiyans vanished too, did they find a planet that masks life, which does exist in Dragonball. Seriously unless we get a deep dive into those subjects we can only speculate. Also if they did survive on a planet we would get some interactions from Vegeta.

@GlenDeaton I don't think so, I think towards the end of the planet he by passed king vegeta, but elites are have to conditions 1. There born much stronger and that's analyzed at birth and 2. Elites get stronger zenkais, which is why vegeta got a stronger zenkai when he went ssj first time than goku. Something elite blood that gives better zenkai, it's just goku in the show tended at times to push himself more or was able to train harder because of that gravity machine.

I think a cool spin off show would be about the Saiyans before the destruction of planet Vegeta. Stories about all their conquests and struggles under Frieza and Cold's rule. I always thought that because they would send lowvlass to clear non-troublesome planets. They're never challenged and so never get stronger. While stronger at birth saiyans would get training then sent to planets where theyll struggle and as a result, grow or die. A saiyan's picked class at birth is sort of a self-fulling issue because of what they get.

i liked the original funimation dub of goku telling frieza that he doesn't care about bardock. Goku said "I don't care" after frieza said he looks like bardock. Why should goku care, he didn't know who bardock was and at that point in the story, sayians like vegeta were ruthless and that is all goku knew from what king kai told him.

The whole "Saiyans resisting teleportation" thing I think is a reach. I think it's more an aspect of how the dragons teleport people than some special thing only Saiyans can do that applies to all forms of teleporting. Keep in mind, when Vegeta was brought back to life on Namek, and absolutely would have stayed if he had the option. I think sometimes you're just given an option, and sometimes you aren't.

in my opinion gas pre time skip is below ginyu in post time skip he is in that abo and kado ranges of power and, this is very telling since this version of Bardock is somewhat on gases level which makes it all the more impressive for his scaling now add in great ape and he is around second form frieza level pre time skip, post time skip would be 3-5 million which is a small percentage of friezas final form.

Given the golden aura, it looks like it would be a pseudo transformation into Super Saiyan, sort of a Super Saiyan Omen. If Gas is right and saying it's stronger than a Great Ape, it's most likely somewhere between a 11x-49x multiplier, sitting somewhere in the range between Great Ape and Super Saiyan.

Ive always interpreted the sayian classes as their birth power level. Raditz was a upper class warrior despite being only slightly stronger than a saibaman and his father being a low class warrior. Vegeta was a elite because besides broly he had the highest recorded birth PL. Goku had PL of like 10 or something at birth and despite having the same parents as raditz and demolishing nappa in seconds is still regarded as a low class warrior by Vegeta

Never knew about Kami getting weaker. Very interesting but I shouldn't be surprised given how old he is. Not saying this video was making a concrete statement on power levels, but personally I think a power level of 50-60k is too high for Bardock because that gives his great ape form a chance against 1st form Frieza, but narratively he shouldn't stand a chance unless he somehow achieved SSJ, imo. I don't know how official Ginyu Force power levels are but I do know 40k has been attributed to Recoome, Burter, and Jeice. If 30k was considered the limit of saiyans, I think it's reasonable to say full powered Gas was at around 40k when facing Bardock, which is well above the perceived limit and fits with Toyotaro placing him at around the Ginyu Force (likely growing to Ado/Cado levels over the decades). Even if other numbers I've seen attributed to the Ginyu Force like 60k are their true power level, it's clear that 40k+ separates the elite of the elite from the "regular" fighters of the universe. Bardock reaching 40k is reasonable as that still places even his Great Ape form enough below 1st form Frieza while still breaking the ceiling others placed on him. It's possible Bardock could be at 30k and raises to 40k+ with his strongest attacks, given Gas was noted as not being the most skilled of fighters and Bardock's mindset gave him an edge beyond simply being strong. I think that limit on saiyans is more likely in the lower range of 30k rather than 60k because even Prince Vegeta who was touted as record breaking and a paragon of the saiyan race was only a little over halfway to 30k while under the Frieza Force. Given Vegeta would be their most extreme benchmark for how powerful a saiyan can possibly get, even 30k looks like an arbitrarily high number.
