As a parent of a 14 and 16 yo, I've been having conversations with my kids about student loans/student loan debt and college for years. It's all been part of my financial literacy conversations with them. They really have no clue and it's like sysyphus

This also applies to getting a degree that is applicable to a career that pays well in the first place. Not doubling down on more degrees when lost and looking for direction.

I once knew a PhD physics student who just wanted to teach kids. Some people succumb to expectations or ego.

How does this advice apply to PSLF? The cost benefit analysis is applicable to everybody regardless of age. Some of these "Never..." have an exception in certain situations.

Loan forgiveness is almost non existent and depends on the prevailing political winds. I wouldn’t depend on it as a reliable way of paying of my loans - it’s more like a stroke of good luck if you qualify for it and can have those loans forgiven. I know a few people that received it - and it’s a blessing. But without exception they would have been better off just paying the loan off years earlier and getting from under the debts

Only acceptable student loans are for STEM degrees or law, income speaks for itself. Otherwise veterans, minorities, natives, academics, etc qualify for scholarships. Most jobs also have tuition programs. Student loans reminds me of drugs, the easy way to happiness. People sign on the dotted line and are surprised when they have to deal with personal responsibility aka repayment.
