I’m 35 and I remember playing this game for the first time. I was 9 or 10. I was absolutely mind blown. I also started on the 2600 and remember how the first one was so amazing playing with my 20 year old brother and when we got to the underground level screaming in excitement, to me (since Atari rarely has games that are more than 1 screen and when they are they were confusing for my 3 year old mind or hard). I played 2 at a friends house thought it was cool and 3 simply blew me away. It’s so phenomenal, in that day and age (1990 or so). Map screen, secrets everywhere, power ups you never see coming. World 4! I also got to be blown away at the n64 for the first time and so on, I’ve been a gamer since I was in preschool and I’m really glad I got to grow up with these games and be so impressed by every generation of Nintendo.

challenge: make a save state at the beginning of world 8 with a frog suit on. try to beat the entirety of world 8 in one sitting and if you get hit or collect another powerup, you reload the save state. and don't forget to prepare to rage.

agree, smb3 was one of the best game of my life. Also you forgot the stage 8. It is so awesome to play as a kid with mario versus an army of tanks, bob-ombs and the airship level in the dark world. The dark back ground in all stages, the tank music and jump all around to avoid the bullets, just awesome. Now a days everything is so very happy and lovely and not challanging compare to those games in the past. Another thing what you miss, is that not only the boo's were fast. But the twomps could move left to right and diagonal. You never see it back.

SMB3 is my favorite classic non-remake Mario game Pipe land’s difficulty is part of why Ludwig is my favorite koopaling. It’s impressive that he may have been able to navigate the labyrinth himself to get to the king (though it’s more likely he just flew there in his airship). But even then it’s a strategic location since it’s difficult and smarts is definitely Ludwig’s thing when it comes to planning Also it’s not just you who tries beating a level with a frog suit, but I do it to get the unique dialogue from the king you save. It’s hilarious the first time you get it

The N-spade card game isn't random. It shows up every time you increase your score 80,000 points (80K, 160K, 240K etc.). Also, a hammer brother turns into a treasure ship if your coins are a multiple of 11 (11, 22, 33, etc.) AND the tens digit in your score matches the coins digit at the end of a level on worlds 1, 3, 5, and 6 only.

I'm 37, and the Super Mario series is still my absolute favourite series of all time, and Mario 3 is my favourite game in the series. I replay this one several times every year. I've mainly been playing the Japanese original as its more of a challenge (Doesn't matter if you have a power up suit or not, you always become small Mario after just one hit). I've also come to appreciate the levels so much in this game that, every playthrough now, I make sure to complete every single level. It's surprising how challenging some of them are, regardless of how many dozens of times I've played through them... and yes, the 3rd airship because of Wendy is one of them.

*It's mind blowing because of an interesting glitch that you can only do with a Game Genie Code:* if you press Select after the Game Genie Code, you can switch the power-ups! If you hold A or B and press Select at the same time, you can switch the Goomba Shoe, making some glitchy stuff!
