Thanks guys! I don't get any say in what levels they do the mix at. I master my audio at around -17dB RMS and the editors choose what sound levels my audio and the music get mixed in at. Then again, the louder the music is in comparison, the harder it is to hear the narration.

Zelda Botw took 5 years of development, Mario Odyssey took 3 years, and FFXV took a whooping 10 years, longer than these two masterpieces development cycle combined. Kudo to Nintendo's project management.

I dont get why everybody calls this game easy. Ive been playing Mario for over a decade, and ive died countless times in this game. Thank God they removed the live system!!

Eveyone calls it easy, because it simply is. What is the problem in acknowledging that? When people are able to finish a game this heavily anticipated in a matter of 2 or 3 days, it is not that valuable imo. Yes the gameplay is fun, but it is over in a blink of an eye. And that indeed is a problem.

It'll be hard for sure, but don't forget they may have a new pokemon game (almost certainly for the switch) coming in the future. And need I remind you about Metroid Prime... (heres hoping they put as much care into those games as they did Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey)

"Almost certainly" for the switch?Besides the fact that they clearly stated this,do you know any other console for which they can develop pokemon now that 3ds is dying? XD Besides jokes,if Nintendo will mantain (or top) this kind of quality,I'll be the first to be happy.

I personally believe that Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 has more in common with Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey than with 3D Land/World. At least those ones are still mission based, lack a time limit, and you get a star instead of a flag pole. I just see them as linear versions of Super Mario 64, and not 3D versions of 2D games.

gamepro94z I had an idea as I was watching, imagine this. Nintendo puts a small captureable Mario amiibo in the Odyssey that is proportional to the new donk tower replica and allows you to run around and interact with the souvenirs. It scales you down and almost makes the ship like a "best of" hub with highlights of every kingdom.

Am I missing something?! I honestly don't find this a great game... I far prefer BotW over Odyssey. Maybe I feel that Mario shouldn't be open-world... It really has been linear from the beginning, unlike Zelda which was open from the beginning. Mario 64, which I love, does this open world really well, giving you two things to explore, both the castle and the levels, BUT! It keeps the linear aspect within the levels, but keeping a level of discovery within them. The power moons in odyssey are just too obvious and don't feel like an achievement when you get one.

Good video, but I don't like that you described hub worlds as "antiquated relics that the aeries had been bound to since the beginning." First, lots of people like hub worlds and were disappointed that one wasn't included. Second, that argument makes no sense. You could say the same thing about 3D platformers in general. Especially 3D Mario games.

Literally got chills when he said "from a franchise that was getting more and more linear, to once again returning to an open-ended adventure" I think Super Mario Odyssey's review scores alone signify that THIS is what we want out of 3D Mario. Leave the linear stuff for the New Super Mario Borefests, let 3D Mario grow and prosper once again!

I very much like galaxy for the creative gameplay, though it does lack that exploration. But at the same time, I feel that 64 is still more fun than this game, because this game feels very unrewarding when you get a moon.... When you're playing 64, exploring the castle is extremely rewarding and you never know what you'll find behind the next door or painting! Odyssey is warming up to me, but I really don't think it's that spectacular... A lot of work went into it of course! And there are some great maps (Though they are few in total)! But I just can't find it rewarding to getting a moon... In galaxy you felt rewarded when you got a star! As well as in 64! You knew that each star was it's own dedicated level, but here, you just see moons strewn about sometimes... and it really doesn't feel like an achievement to get one, even if you get a hard one, you won't realize it because it's in a mess of other moons.
@chuckchuk14
@chuckchuk14 6 жыл бұрын
I do agree that some of the stages there are bad, but I also think there's some really iconic ones too. And you're right, now that I think back to it a bit, there are filler stars indeed, but I still felt a reward when getting a hard or interesting one. My problem is that since there's no transition between moons, it all feels like a huge conglomeration of them and I never feel like I've achieved anything when I get one, also they all feel considerably easier. I haven't really found one that took me more than 2-4 tries, whilst in galaxy or 64 I would take a looong time on some that were tricky sometimes, and it felt oh sooo rewarding when I finally optimized my path or finally got the hang of them. Of course there were lots of bullshit ones as well, but at least they were a mixed bag instead of just a mess of 'em all over the place. Also I never feel there's any point to look for hard moons except in nice looking areas like the ocean one maybe (where I got loads of moons before turning in), but otherwise I never really feel incentivized to get any because I can get 10 easy moons passively without looking for them, and then be on my way to the next stage. It feels as linear to me really. If I go straight to the objective in a straight line, I can get the moons to progress, and I don't have incentive to find other moons anyway, because it doesn't feel rewarding. Maybe there's an odd moon or another that makes me say: Oh! That's cool. But that's about it, nothing like: FINALLY! I was able to master this course! Like in, say, the purple coin galaxy map where you're on a pixelated Mario. That took me a while, but oh was it an achievement for me to finish them. In hindsight it might be easier now perhaps, but I still think it would be a challenge even now for me, I am yet to find anything even remotely challenging and only things that are slightly rewarding in Odyssey. Don't get me wrong, I really really really really wanted to love this game, and I don't dislike it, I just find it a fairly average experience, even relaxing at times, but just not something I'd be able to feel as invested in as say Skyrim, or BotW, or incentivized to 100% it as with Galaxy or 64.
@chuckchuk14
@chuckchuk14 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree, Galaxy was also pretty easy, but still fairly rewarding at times, I prefer 64 personally, which might also be easy at times too, if not for the controls, but I am yet to find even one challenge in Odyssey, or at least haven't realized it was a challenge since it's all just meshed together. Also, I disagree with the game being non-linear. I'd say the progression is more linear than even galaxy, or galaxy 2! At the very least at the world map level, you can just do one level at a time, whilst in 64 you could go back and forth back and forth do many levels to progress. Here I only have one choice at a time. And even within the levels, it still feels kinda linear anyway (which I wouldn't consider bad for a mario game, since it's a platformer) because you can progress without even looking for stars, you can just muddle around the map going to the main objective and you'll have more than enough stars to continue. The only non-linearity comes if you want to be collect more than you need. I'll be honest, I still haven't beaten the game yet, gotten to the dragon, but even still, this has been my experience so far. I've found it passively fun, but never rewarding, as I've mentioned. Perhaps it might just be me, perhaps I've outgrown Mario in general, but I just can't really enjoy the game as much as I'd like... Honestly, I would have loved a hub-world to explore, if there had been that, I feel I would have enjoyed the game a lot more, when they said it'd be like sunshine and 64, that's one of the features I thought they had in mind, a hub world. But even without the Hub world, I just wish I could enjoy the game more... I'll probably end up getting lots of stars after I beat it, but it might all feel rather pointless, I'm still not sure of what the end-game content is but I'll give it a try, to be fair to the game, it's still a work of art after all. Still, in terms of reward, I far preferred BotW this year, that felt really rewarding when you found something out, or even better still, did something in a way that you weren't supposed to! I even tried doing a no-bow run, having to find alternate methods when I needed range, such as a boomerang perhaps, or magnet, and so on. Or when I saw my brother completing a shrine compleeetely different from how I had completed, in SUCH a creative, and now seemingly obvious, way too! That was rewarding, even though I didn't do it, it felt rewarding to see my brother come up with such a better way of doing something that I had done the intended and more difficult way. I wouldn't say BotW was as perfect as I was hyped for, but it was a damn great game and I love it to death. I just wish I could say the same for this game! GAH, it's conflicting for sure. I was never even hyped for this game, even though I wanted to be. (Well I was kinda happy when I saw the desert world in the first Switch trailer, but I was still far more excited for BotW at the time anyway) SPOILER ---------------------------- OH also! A note on the odyssey bosses! I did feel pretty giddy when I realized that the squid boss utilized the entire map to fight him, that was pretty darn awesome, even though he was still disappointingly easy, as all the bosses tended to be. Besides that boss, the flower one was alright, I'll admit there was a cool cozy/mystical atmosphere down there, the bird took me more than a second to figure out I had to climb his projectile vomit, but the broodals were forgettable really, I can barely remember what distinguished each one, (Well now that I think about it I remember, because of their very good and distinct character models). The dragon felt really cool when I saw him first, but the fight was disappointing as all hell... (Even though when I first set foot in the world you fight him in, I got goosebumps cause it felt like Mario met Dark Souls for a second, and then immediately disappointed to find an extra moon and a disappointing dragon fight.) That's as far as I've gotten, so I wouldn't be able to mention anything else. There might be a boss I'm forgetting, I'm not sure... but they were all too short, too easy, making them almost forgettable, if not for the cool design.
@chuckchuk14
@chuckchuk14 6 жыл бұрын
In this comment I'll reply better to your comment, as I've avoided a few of the topics. I replied to the boss topic at the bottom of my comment, but with the topic of 64 stars. I can remember several times where I accidentally happened upon one of the stars that wasn't the star I was currently doing, and it felt rewarding, in comparison to Odyssey, they were way more of a secret than most moons in Odyssey. I will say that the hint moons are interesting, but even still, there's nothing pushing me to go back and getting them. I've once in a while gone back to an old level for a sec or two, but all I did was get a moon or two for no discernible reason, making it feel almost like a waste of time, at least I haven't beaten the game yet, so I don't know. But the game also feels a LOOOT shorter than galaxy or 64, maybe simply because of less obvious variety? In galaxy, even 64, you were thrown a large variety of levels constantly, and even if there is a bit of variety within the levels of Odyssey, you usually don't feel it because it's too seamless (Odd that I may look at that as a bad thing, but you don't get the same Mario feeling of a mix-matched world). And whilst I do agree that I was sometimes annoyed when two stars were close to each other yet you had to start the level over, firstly I somehow still prefer that system over Odyssey's, and secondly, in galaxy they fixed that system by perhaps making you do the first 1/3 of the level over again, but then giving you a whole new 2/3's of the level to tackle. Part of the reason I don't like the Odyssey system is simply because whilst you can now collect two moons that were next to each other without restarting the level, they're usually just easy moons that don't give you a new portion of the map to do anyway, so it's just filler really. I'd say there's a huuuge amount of filler moons in Odyssey, whilst 100 of the 120 stars in any other mario game were usually specially crafted levels with thought going into each. In Odyssey you can find a moon just sitting underneath those nessie things for goodness sakes.

Oh! I'll have to remember to revisit those then. It'll have to be sometime after I'm done with recording all of these voices for the next AoE2 expansion...

To be honest, I kinda wish they released Odyssey on the Wii U as well as on the Switch, like they did with BOTW but oh well :(

I like Mario odyssey and all ,but I just don't get those saying it's goty. It's a solid game ,but hell Mario 64 had more lvls that was bigger and more challenging. It just doesn't feel that revolutionary to me considering the past games. Zelda on the other hand was a big leep forward compared to previous games. And lastly seems to me xenoblade chronicles 2 will imho probably be better than both the previous games. Hopefully xenoblade chronicles 2 gets this much attention.

Anthony Tosh Level size doesn't really matter as much as what you do with it. The sheer amount of creativity and possibility shoved into this game is what makes it overshadow Breath for me, and that was my previous GOTY.

Myre that's true 64 might have more worlds but Odysseys world have more content in them so quality over quantity I guess

For me, how innovative something is, despite bring very important, doesn't mean its automatically better. Botw was innovative, but imagine a sequel with the same ideas, but improved. We've seen it before, but now they made it better.

I feel like if you ask someone "How can Breath of the Wild's sequel improve on its predecessor?", they can point out a lot of things (better story, better dungeons, better voice acting, better characters, better bosses). When I consider this question for Odyssey, I simply can't figure out any glaring weaknesses. The game feels big, creative, and complete. I love Breath of the Wild so much, but there is a lot that can be done to make a better sequel. Maybe the soon to be released story based DLC will improve Breath, but there is only so much they can do. I do not doubt that the next Zelda game will be amazing if they build off of the foundation of Breath of the Wild, but Odyssey was built on a massive foundation set up by 64 and Sunshine. Breath was the first step into a new formula, while Odyssey was the refinement of an old formula that has had over 20 years to develop. It is because of this that Mario seems to have the upper hand, but Zelda is definitely is not far behind. I'm exited to see what a refinement of Breath looks like, but right now, Odyssey is shining brighter.

With Odyssey, they already have the formula ready, so a sequel could be dedicated to giving us a greater amount of worlds, maybe mleven make them even bigger, and tweak a few things. Like Galaxy 2 maybe?
