How Super-Strength Weed Dominated the UK | The War on Drugs

In the 1990s and early-2000s, the War on Drugs tried to stop smokers worldwide getting high on hash. However, this led to the UK getting its very own domestic ‘skunk’ industry - an ultra-violent shadowland populated by gangs, pushers, lab slaves, granny growers and millions of young people putting their mental health at risk.
In 'The War On Drugs Show', we examine the social implications of prohibition worldwide.

Prohibition only hampers education, scientific research, wastes an immense amount of police resources, incarcerates people for victimless crimes, takes up most of the prison population, and makes the market more dangerous as it is completely unregulated by the government. While the enforcement of drugs have gone up, so has its abuse rates, it is clear that prohibition is only doing harm and we need to look towards harm reduction and public education rather than prohibition.

This video is one big misconception in a nutshell. 'Skunk' as you call it, is one of the first hybrid strains, introduced in the 70's; that was simply a result of breeding different types of cannabis together. It is not a classification for cannabis as a whole, as any educated individual would know. This strain is very uncommon, and is not strong at all by today's standards. Skunk #1 has a measly 16% THC content, of which, is long surpassed by strains that can be anywhere upwards of 30% THC, such as Mike Tyson's very own strain, 'The Toad' that actually reached 37% THC. Cannabis is made of many different cannabinoids, THC and CBD being the main ones we know of. It is common sense that there would be variations in these compounds as there are in any other substance. Medical users may prefer a higher CBD strain or THC, whereas recreational users will more likely have a high THC preference. There are millions of strains of cannabis out there, and they all do different things, physically and psychoactively. This does not mean there is some sort of strange phenomina occuring. It means that science, botany and horticulture has advanced; and become even more educated on this ancient, plant - based mediciene, that's been used since the dawn of time. I hope this educated you, VICE!

Skunk has not been used since the 90’s in Canada probably. If someone did use the word skunk it was likely police officer trying to buy weed, or your grandmother discussing it. LOL My current government run cannabis store sells an ounce from $100 to $600 an ounce, typically only spend about $130 to $150 for 20 to 24 % THC. The weed was really bad; dry, low THC, taste, etc... when they first started, but they have turned it around after a couple years.

I live in Amsterdam, I'm out of weed so I'm taking the tram in a few minutes to go to the coffee shop to get some weed. Or hash. Just had a long day at work and I feel like smoking. I'm a functioning normal citizen who pays 42% income tax, so you could say I contribute to society just fine. People need to be able to just smoke weed if they want to every now and then. The Dutch are generally not massive weed addicts, you grow up with parents telling you what that shop is with the strange smell. You get informed, people know that overconsumption is bad for you (health/mental/career). Also you take those guys with guns and knives out of the picture if you legalize. It's pretty ridiculous that producing weed for sale is still illegal here. Sale is 'permitted' in a select group of shops. Selling through the back door is an unenforced offence.. You can never get a license for a new coffee shop, only the existing ones currently stay. Take a look at the US, even they've legalized AFAIK. Because production is still illegal, I cannot buy specific weed, say with X percent of THC/CBD. I don't even want to smoke super high THC weed, but I simply don't know the levels, I just ask for a bio indica or something. Legalize, let it become normal again :) They even found cannabis in the old Egyptian pyramids ffs. I just realize that I totally would build a Sphinx if I was a stoned pharaoh.

The hash you had before was cold pressed rosin which was then stretched and folded. Creating a protective layer of oxidized material on the outside which allowed it to not lose potency over time. When done with hot presssed this is called taffy pull rosin. That’s a 70 percent thc on average product. It’s legal in Missouri and people aren’t going insane and losing eyeballs.

At 14 your brain is still developing, that might be the reason it's dulled you, but then again, you might have turned out that way with or without the smoke, you'll never know unless you can go back in time and make different decisions. When you're smoking a decent amount everyday you build up a tolerance for it and get less from it, stop for a week or two and it'll feel totally different when you have another.

Same here in France, still smoking hash except now it's so potent it's basically almost half wax and the weed has been "Super high strength weed" since the hippie movement. Also the product that gave stoners holes in their cloths back then was not hash, just a mix of the leaves, buds and branches most of the time, with a 1% THC ratio. if you get the 'old school' variety of hash, many people here have no idea what Vice is talking about because all they have smoked is skunk for years and suddenly since now people are making hash from super skunk strains, yes there is very strong hash about - but on average hash has always been more mellow - in comparison, skunk gives me a headache. so... again too many newbs here thinking they know whats up.

I've been smoking 10+ year from 15 to 25, if you want to quit weed then wait for a week off and just stop smoking it, its more a habit then anything else. you'll get cold sweats, won't be able to sleep or at very well for a while but it will pass within a couple of days. reactions differ per person but it isn't a hard drug by any means, trust me.. if you wanna try fucked up try smoking 8+ joints a day with a pack of beer at the same time XD risk of psychosis is also only really prevelant with cases like myself where i've been smoking for most of my life. to be honest if you're 15 its more likely the tobacco you're smoking with the THC is affecting you, or something like ADHD or a fucked up school time. there is always someone you can talk to tho no matter what you think the reason ir cause is don't let it keep you from asking for help.
