You’ve nailed it again Bruce! You completely described the experience of owning/riding a Harley. When I bought mine, my riding buddies all advised not to, saying it wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do because I am a fairly aggressive rider.... but it does just as you described, it makes you just chill and enjoy. Until you are ready to get things more aggressive, and while it’s no sport tourer, it’ll still leave you smiling, surprisingly, when you hustle it. I do agree, as you’ve said previously, that Harley’s are better with another bike next to it, but I don’t see giving mine up anytime soon. They are more diverse/enjoyable than people give them credit for, and definitely has a place in my garage. 🍻

Excellent review, I’m totally with you on the Harley experience. I’m an Africa Twin rider in my early sixties. Last weekend I had an American friend over and we hired two HDs for a three day ride through Exmoor and Dartmoor . My first time out on a HD and I had all the preconceptions and prejudices that so many people share but… I was amazed by how excellent the machine was. It’s smooth, it;’s comfortable, it handles, and the engine is just magnificent. Yesterday I revisited the Harley dealer to get a quote on trading my Africa Twin for a Streetglide, I’m hoping to get the deal done before the worst of the winter weather hits.

Harley's aren't my cup of tea, but each to their own I say. Most of the stigma with Hog's, like Beemers, comes from the stereo types. Not all owners are equal - I have followed some talented Hog riders who can make these things fly in complete safety and know their stuff. A nice refreshing change bud!! Keep 'em coming!!

Great review. After 35 years on bikes, I am just considering my first Harley and the Sport Glide is on the list. Almost bought a 1200 Sportster back in 2005, but in the end I went for a Triumph Speedmaster (865). Haven't really paid much attention to Harley since then, but am interested now.

Great review. This bike ticks all the boxes for me.Ideal for weekends away, and you can strip the panniers and fairing and turn it into a completely different animal for just having fun cruising.I’ve added S+S exhaust and air cleaner as well as torque cam which gives that Harley sound and extra torque.Only downside is the single disc on front, but it’s not a sport bike.Highly recommend the Sportglide and Guildford Harley-Davidson.

Great review and pretty spot on in regards to the bike. Love my Sport Glide. Why pick it over other soft tails... ABS - standard, cruise control - standard, forward controls - standard, skies for miles - standard. Ability to easily use the bike for a long weekend get away with the bags and fairing and or strip them off in less than 5 minutes and have an awesome around town bar hopper. The bike has a fantastic centre of gravity which makes the bike feel quite a bit lighter than it is. Easy to flick through the corners and handles very well when ordering a $1.30 fish and chip special when needing to get somewhere quickly. ;o). Yes the smaller single front brake can be a bit soft, but learning how to bring in a bit of back brake at the right time really helps and also keeps from causing the front end to hard drop forward as you come to a stop which helps with keeping a balanced stop. I have made a few mod's to mine and will make one or two more, but over all even stock the bike is great and I have no complaints with it. In fact I never intended to get a Harley until I discover the Sport Glide and after watching numerous reviews and taking one for a test ride, I was sold.

I've had one for 3 1/2 years now, great bike, I have two Harleys but his is probably my favorite Harley so far, the brakes are enough on this bike, yeah I agree it can feel a bit spongy when you come to the end of braking, only complaints I have is the rattle from the petrol cap and the misting up speedo, but these are common problems on all bikes, and keep them clean because Harleys like to rust if not kept clean, mind you most brands are the same.

Hi, I bought a new Sport Glide and traded in my lovely Fatboy. I Took her to France to pick up my Girlfriend at Paris. I lost the girlfriend, clumsy of me. I took the girl to the top of the Eiffel Tower. After a glass of Champagne and a rock on the finger she left as my future wife. The Harley took us through France, romance was perfect. This bike is absolutely wonderful. Very responsive handling, loads of power and the braking is amazing. All loaded, we were about Kg 500+ and I did need to pull to stop. No problem, ABS perfect and handles so well. Add the touring panniers and a rack, you have a really good touring bike. Easy cruising at 130Kph. I went to a bike meeting with 15000 bikes. Live life.

I have to say it's "catching" voice overs on these bike reviews as Mr Fish seemed to have the same mic problems with his very good NC750 review ( i quite like the voice over at the beginning ) Excellent review , with any bike choosing a route because of road conditions is high on my list but i imagine you have to be "extra" choosy with certain types of bike . Best regards

I've test ridden the Sport Glide. It's as pleasant to ride as it is to look at. It had plenty of power (loads of low end torque), and it handles small curvy roads as well as it handles long highway cruises. Only complaint: it takes some practice to find neutral consistently.

Best on a Harley to use both brakes as the back one is quite powerful and as the weight is more over the back, stops you better using both.

I wouldn’t suggest you start on this bike - it doesn’t corner or handle like most ‘usual’ bikes so you would learn habits which would not bode well if you ever rode a traditional style of bike afterwards. Not only that but the insurance would be sky high on a 1.8 engine for a new rider
