I lived in Taiwan for work from 1999-2013, and they work so hard and things are always happening. I moved back to Canada from 2013-now and nothing really happens here. No new large scale constructions, no new hospitals, no new bridges. The government in Canada produces no jobs for people, so no one likes to go out and spend money. I’m now in Taiwan for vacation, and they’re still working and innovating. Very exciting here

Taiwan manufactures the world's most advanced AI chips and pairs them with semiconductor components, high-speed multi-layer printed circuit boards resistant to electromagnetic interference and noise, and all electronic, electrical, and precision mechanical structural components for the production of AI data center servers. These components include cooling systems and energy-saving power management systems. The fully automated and intelligent production, testing, and assembly lines produce AI data center servers, with each set valued at over US$3 million (NT$100 million). Fifty sets, loaded onto a cargo plane, amount to US$150 million, destined for export to markets in the US, Europe, Japan, Korea, India, and Middle Eastern oil-producing countries. The export of 50 sets of AI data center servers, valued at US$150 million, by one cargo plane to overseas markets is equivalent to exporting 10,000 automobiles, 5,000 electric vehicles, 250,000 iPhones, 300,000 to 400,000 sets of high-end home appliances, or launching the SpaceX Falcon rocket three times or five sets of Starlink satellites in low earth orbit. Mastering complete and advanced chip manufacturing technology means mastering the advanced electronic industry, creating wealth tens of times greater than traditional manufacturing industries. This is the main reason why Taiwan can outpace global industrial nations.

Taiwan is a small, densely populated region where many workers earn low wages, around $3 an hour. TSMC, despite its role in producing semiconductors, is often overvalued in its importance. Its work is similar to manufacturing basic products like toasters, with little brand value. The company’s profits rely heavily on expensive equipment that will eventually lose value. Manufacturing technology has rarely been a lasting economic advantage-true progress comes from innovation. While manufacturing improvements require money, real innovation takes years of strong education and a more open, collaborative mindset, not isolation and self-praise.

However, since the Chinese Kuomintang fled to Taiwan with the Republic of China, it has implemented authoritarian rule and brainwashing policies and killed tens of thousands of Taiwanese. As a 27-year-old Taiwanese young man, I agree that Taiwan outperforms Japan in a few GDP figures. However, I personally think that Taiwan in fact lags behind Japan in so many aspects. For example, infrastructure, traffic, cleanliness, and especially the “software” aspect of a society, like how well people follow rules. For people who used to live in Japan, it could be annoying that pavements in Taiwan are usually blocked by personal stuff from people living aside. We can lift our GDP figures and average salary in a few decades, yet improving the civic awareness in our society to the level of Japan could take a much longer time. Of course, I am proud to see that, through a few decades of hard work, Taiwan has risen to become an indispensable player of the semiconductor supply chain and is able to be more supportive to the international community. However, I hope that in the future when people around the world mention Taiwan, semiconductor or TSMC is not the only reason of significance.

Japan relying too much on monetary policy back in the days also went back to monetary policy whenever there’s an issue, it’s overdone and there’s not much left in reserve for same effect to be taken in place. Also Taiwan seems extremely modest for some reason, it’s very smooth, not much volatility compared to Japan for some reason; in other words dead pond.

The reason why Taiwan is able to succeed in the technology industry is because it is not obsessed with surpassing anyone, but focuses on OEM manufacturing and creating value for customers. Taiwan has the lowest wages and the longest working hours in developed countries, generally has high education levels, and has no labor unions.Taiwan is a trustworthy trading partner for everyone. Taiwan can help Make America Great Again, and it also can help make Japan great again too, as long as the free world is willing to assist Taiwan in maintaining the status quo of democratic independence.

I’m from Taiwan, where the per capita GDP has been steadily rising. However, this growth hasn’t translated into better living standards for most people. One major issue is that our economy is heavily centered around technology, and we should reconsider our economic strategy. By comparison, Japan’s industry is more diverse and structurally sound.

Taiwan wakes up each morning to greet the rising sun. Korea should learn from Taiwan. Japan needs to shed its war guilt syndrome. And when realism strikes, Taiwan, Korea and Japan are poised to join force, reunite and "Make the Empire Great Again" (M.E.G.A). "Honni Soit Qui Mal Y Pense.” Please, read the comments first.
