I fail a year in high school, so I started college one year older than “I was supposed to”. Then, after three years of college, I decided to take a gap year to be an Au Pair in the US (I’m from Brazil hehe). That one year became two, so I finished college with almost 26 years old! Now I’m 27, I got married with someone that I met during my gap year and I work with someone that I always wanted to. So, I’m aaaaaall about taking gap years hahaha. I have so many friends from college (from different ages and classes) and the same with high school

It's difficult knowing my parents keep saying they're 'running out of time' and that I 'need to get myself together soon' before that. None of my siblings took a gap year, and they've had their fair share of trouble. I just feel like everything is rushed and I'm still trying to find myself.

As someone who has taken a sabbatical in my career I think gaps in your career or school are necessary for our mental health and it's been proven that you can go back and still get a job. I wish I took a gap year before starting in school

I've been an A student my entire life. I graduated high school last June, and I didn't know what's next. I've spent the past years so focused on acing my exams and being on top of my class that I didn't have time to actually focus on myself and what I like, so when it was time to go to college, I didn't know what major I wanted to choose. Taking a gap year has been always on my mind because I knew I wasn't ready to move forward, but I was afraid of what others will think. "You'll never go back to school, you're missing an entire year of your life for what?..." And don't get me started on other parents bragging infornt of you about their children in college. But well, here I am, and although I'm scared of the unfamiliarity of living an entire year without having any exams or homeworks or assignments, I'm ready to build a new version of me. Best of luck for all students out there who want or are taking a year off❤

I took a year off between undergrad and my graduate program and it was the best thing I could’ve done. If it wasn’t for that, I would’ve went to school for something I didn’t want to do and would have wasted time and money. Thanks for sharing ❤

I do feel that it's always up to us to decide when we want to move forward with college. I personally took a one-year gap which turned into two because of Covid (welp). I originally was bummed but looking back at it, it turns out that that may have been one of the best decisions or events that happened to me. Why? I feel like I'm more mature now mentally and it's clear to me what I actually want to do with life - career path, relationships, whatevs! That extra time also helped me focus on the skill that I had wanted to adopt as a career path and it definitely paid off! So yes, it's never too late or too early for college and the old saying of 'graduation in your early 20s' is no longer on point. That said, you still need to be very strategic and cautious with gap years. You need to be sure how you'll spend that time and just focus on making it as productive as you can!

I'm in my first gap year right now and I'm almost entering into my second one. I have felt so behind in life and I've felt very pressured to do a lot of things while I'm not going to school right now even though I took this gap year to focus mostly on taking rest and bettering my mental health. This video came exactly at the right time for me, it's really refreshing to hear your experiences and it really helped me to remind myself that everything is okay and I'm not "behind" in life. I'm trying so many other things, I'm working and saving up money, I'm going to travel next year and overall it feels like I've grown as a person this past year. Thank you so much for making this video ! :)

Took some time off for mental health reasons and moving, planning to start college in the fall of this year. Definitely feel a bit behind them, but I'm not in a rush😊

I’m so glad I took a couple years “off” between high school and college. I hated school growing up (I was a good student, had friends, wasn’t bullied or anything, it just wasn’t something I enjoyed) and had no plans of going to college at all. I’d done my time and I was ready to be DONE. But, working at a job I hated for 2-3 years after high school and seeing the lack of better options I had in my area without a degree, made me reconsider. I LOVED college, and I don’t know that I would’ve (or at least not as much) if I’d gone directly after high school when I was so burnt out from being in classrooms for the last 14 years (including Pre-K and Kindergarten). I was older than most of my friends, (21, almost 22 when I started my freshman year, and had just turned 27 when I graduated), which was definitely kind of weird at times because they were also all ahead of me school-wise (I was randomly paired with a Sophomore roommate my first semester and she adopted me into her friend group, so I’m a walking example of that “how do introverts make friends? They’re adopted by an extrovert who brings them into their friend group” meme) , so they all graduated, got settled into their careers, etc while I was still finishing up college. So it was a weird, I’m older, but almost feel younger kind of feeling, but it wasn’t bad and they’re all still some of my best friends to this day, 12 years later. It hardly ever even came up, there’d just be these moments where like a song would come on and they were like “this makes me think of our 8th grade dance” and I was like “I was old enough to drive when this song came out” lol. But people’s ages are all over the place in college, so you don’t even think about much. Like I had some classes where I was older than the professor, and then I had others where I’d befriend classmates who had kids (or in a couple cases, even grandkids) around my age. But I’m definitely glad I took those gap years even if I didn’t realize that’s what they were at the time, if for no other reason than I wouldn’t have made the friends I did if I’d gone straight out of high school.

hey I'm new to your channel and I watched your apple watch video which helped me out a lot on choosing an apple watch as smart watch. I also love your calendar method which I now used for this week for the first time by planning my whole week and it really did helped reducing stress and to stay motivated through the day. :) Greetings from germany

In Brazil is actually very common to not entering college right after high school. We have public and free universities, but they are hard to get in. So it’s common to not pass the test right away and then spend a year taking classes and preparing to try again. It’s worth it to pay a year of classes to be able to pass the test and have free college later

I’m taking a gap year before going to interfaith seminary after graduating from grad school this year. I wish I took one between my undergrad and grad school because I am feeling the burnout: I spent 6 years on my undergrad and 4 on my masters. All of this was back to back. But at least I’m following through with one now before going back to school again!

It took me 12 years to get my bachelor's because I had to work, I went to war, and I had a child. I think my gap was pretty big, but I wouldn't have done it differently. I also went to night school mostly.
