For shovel/spade care, my Grandfather always kept a bucket of sand saturated with mineral oil that he would repeatedly jam the metal into to clean and sharpen his tools. His shovel never got rusty and was always sharp for digging! He never put a "dirty" shovel away.

The repetition of tasks in videos is a great reminder of the reality of gardening 😂: many of us can’t clean out our beds in a single afternoon. You demonstrate how smart and satisfying it can be complete one bed at a time instead of doing all of the pruning in all of the beds, then doing all of the cut backs, etc.

Oh how I wish you could talk your Mom into another quick update on their remodel. I just love the process and seeing how rooms come together and the reasons for choices being made. We went through a remodel of our home which was built in 1850 and had to remove knob and tube wiring, asbestos, etc. So many factors involved that you never think about, such as shipping delays, out of stock items, injuries etc. The end result is always worth it but what a process 😮. God bless you and your family for sharing your beautiful lives with us.

Great video as usual! Please try the Pampered Chef garlic press. I have had mine for probably 20 years. It’s very sturdy and does a great job. It’s rare that I mince garlic for a recipe. I plant a lot of garlic to use fresh but, I also freeze a good amount to get me through the winter. I break the heads apart and freeze the individual cloves in a bag with the skins on. I take the amount out for a recipe as I gather my ingredients and let them sit for a few minutes. When I get ready to use them I just squeeze them through the press and then toss the skins. I love it ! None of my garlic goes to waste from sprouting and it’s so convenient!

The BEST garlic mincer that I’ve found are the ones that are circular with the handle one side of the circle and the other side has a flat area with lots of holes. You basically just roll it over the garlic clove a couple of times and the crushed garlic is on the inside of the circle and the skin stays on the outside. You just scrape each side with a knife, one lit into your recipe and the other into the trash and it’s done! Bonus is they’re REALLY quick and easy to clean, no fiddly bits just a flat area of steel with holes in it! You can thank me later 😉😁👍🏻

I have native honeysuckles, lonicera sempervirens, growing on each side of an arched arbor. I cut back 1/3 of the thickest stems to about 12" from the ground every 7-10 years. My strategy is to cut down 1/3 of the thickest vines every few years while maintaining a few of the thick ones. This way, I keep growth at the top while regenerating growth at the base. I love my red-flowering lonicera sempervirens as they start blooming in my z5b gardens in late spring and continue blooming through October. This provides food for the early hummingbirds and also for the stragglers at the end of the season.
