I'm very disheartened with poisoned comment section for Tamil Nadu, even if they don't agree with centre's policies there is no reason to badmouth the state, it's the most productive state and all states should compete with them not chide them for their success. As an Rajasthani I hope our chief minister take some notes from the Tamil Nadu government policies.

Got nothing to do with that bs. Transportation is a significant cost in most Industries. There's a reason TN had much higher growths after 1991, and not before. Its all to do with Market economies, most factories will always set up shop from where its easier to Export, i.e PORTS\Coastal areas. This export mindset wasn't there before liberalisation\End of License Raj. This trend will only accelerate , if Inter-state Transportation costs don't reduce.

@@thebestevertherewas This excuse is always given that TN grows because of being a port based state it is easy to export from here. Dude even for domestic manufacturing TN and Maharashtra are factory of India. And Raw materials are shipped to these states from hinterland only. As per TN government data 76% of TN's manufacturing is consumed in India itself only 14% is exported. Very important point. Easy facilitation of exit increases viability of investments. It increases trust. It is also a power factor - "we are not affected by your exit, probably you're the one at loss" kinda power factor. An industry must think thrice before leaving the investment land in TamilNadu when other companies are fighting for it.❤

A very useful discussion. Thank you Shekhar and ThePrint. I learned a lot about how the industrial base has expanded in Tamil Nadu - kudos, may it achieve GREATER heights! I would have waited for an answer to the serious question - FINALLY - that came in the end with Thoothukkudi (VERY serious, lot of people died!), Ennore and Kodaikanal - from govt rep. Vishnu! Also, another tough question would have been why "anti-people", "anti-labour" law like "12 hour day" was introduced and THEN withdrawn! Do proper journalism by asking researched, data-based and relevant push-backs and questions, Vandana. Also, you could have told us viewers WHERE you visited in Tamil Nadu. I appreciate your ground work, good job overall - just for next time that's all. Message for Professor Vijaybhaskar: "if it comes in movie, it means it is there IN SOCIETY! Maharashtra has always attracted big companies and their headquarters in Mumbai and Pune. But, TN has traditionally attracted more medium-sized companies and parts manufacturers. That's why TN has a lead of 10,000 factories (37.5K factories) over the 2nd best, Maharashtra (27K factories). Maharashtra will continue to lead on the big companies; TN will take some time to catch up with that.

As that gujarat port is so close to pakistan, it becomes an easy target for drugs to enter our nation and the same thing happens in punjab as well because punjab is so close to Lahore... But the drug scandal in TN is different. Synthetic drugs are made here in India. They get mixed with coconut powder, and get EXPORTED to developed countries like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore etc.... Understand the basic difference brother.. TN is among the states that have the most potential. Its a lesder in metrics like education, colleges, women employment etc. But the successive governments are squandering the advantage. The infrastructure in capital city Chennai is broken. No proper areas with infra for IT, old and pathetic airport and congested roads. Clearly losing to the likes of Hyderabad. No expressways operational.. unlike the north which have expressways between minor cities. We don't have the Chennai Bangalore expressway ready. Elevated corridor to the port is stalled for 20 years now. These governments are only good foe corruption. They don't have a proper vision or strategy. The state is running because of its people.
