One reason companies sell products either overpriced or completely different from the rest of the market is so that the media will talk about it and that will end up as great and cheap way to market their product.

Spot on. Apple never expected to sell millions of 10k gold watches. They just wanted people to see the Apple Watch as a legit timepiece, a proper watch, a jewelry product, and not just another tech gadget on a wristband. And it worked like a charm. Back in the day If I had a lot of cash to spare I would easily buy one just for the sake of exclusivity, despite the software updates being obviously scheduled to end in a few years time - as they already did. The clock part still works and that's enough. Who bought it didn't do it for the tech, that's what almost everyone failed to understand. Which by the way is why they did VERY right to not make a (proper) gold Series 2, 3, 4 and so on, so nobody who bought it would own a 10k product that only lasted for one year. No. There's just one gold watch, only the very first Series 0 and that was it. The updates may be over but the exclusivity will go on forever because of that. It's not just a genious move in terms of marketing but it also does a lot of justice to those who commited so much money to have a very special product. "You got a gold one? Relax, there will never be a new one. Yours is the first and last. Enjoy it" If I got one, I would be totally fine with it becoming "old" and stopping to get updates. It's the original Golden Warch, the missing features aren't (and never were) the priority - besides if I can pay 10k I probably can afford a ceramic or titanium or hermes one every other year without a problem as well, and even so I'm positive my older, slower Golden one would remain my all-time favorite Watch ever. The rose gold one with the white sport band is f-ing gorgeous.

I always thought there should have been some kind of service program for these crazily priced watches where you could take it to an Apple store once a year and have the display and internals upgraded to match the latest mainstream watch. Then it might have stood a chance of selling big, even at a ridiculous price.

Foreal I would really considered buying one then. If they decided to keep me up to date, even for a small fee. (Because companies do nothing for free)….

why? money, apple has reached a sad stage at which it can build the worst product ever, literally say on stage "this is a bad over priced product, we wouldnt buy it our self" and people would still buy it

Interesting So the usual "Product" apple always advertised is just a clout or just a way to keep the image of "Premiumness" while in the background they are focusing more and more of affordability to their abit older phones and their service and is making a killing with it. Tbh it is quite a genius bussinesss model. Basically make controversy but also do what the competitors do while making it you dont do it. Anyway keep it up Hari
