Have a great story about old Mr. Mars. As you may know, Mars headquarters is located in the McLean town, McLean, Virginia, in a very nondescript building. Mr.Mars would go grocery shopping in the Safeway grocery store which is just a couple of blocks from their headquarters. He was widely known for frugality. He had presented his items and had them rung up at the register. However in reviewing the receipt he found a discrepancy in the change returned to him, of a few cents. He insisted on having the register reopened and the proper amount paid, which he carefully counted, to the penny. Frugal, penny pinching, annoying because the line became 10 people waiting behind him. However, one of America’s richest men wanted his proper change and would be danged if he wasn’t going to hold up everyone until he got it.

This is very real. I worked as a project manager in Mechanical contracting company( HVAC, Sprinkler pipe fitting, plumbing etc.), the owner( a multimillionaire) always looked for his discount. A co-workers wife work as a manager in a catering service. Yes, he wanted his “families” discount. He did the same in a garden nursery where another employee’s wife worked. Millionaires are frugal.

"Watch the nickels and dimes, and the dollars will take care of themselves." I think this is an old Yiddish saying, forgive me if I am wrong. Also, "A dollar saved is a dollar earned."

William Randolph didn't create the Hearst fortune; his father George did. William just took his father's mining fortune into newspapers. There are two other families who own Private corporations that I would be curious to hear about: the Bechtels and the Johnsons (of Johnson Wax). A story told by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt III at the 100th anniversary of the Breakers: When he was young and in school, he and several other children of wealthy families were called to the office as their families were worried about kidnapping scares. One student said he knew how to get away: he'd just point to Alfred and say "take him - he's a Vanderbilt." That student was William Randolph Hearst III.

Problem here is no mention of dates. One has to read about Astor, Lorillard, Schomerhorn, Roosevelt which are some of the real old money families. Family wealth accumulated way before those mentioned here.

I'm thinking about being heavily invested in missile defense. Everyone should learn something from DuPont. Amanda seemed to be the most eligible bachelorette, society might have recognized that, but I think there is more to do to experience life as masters of the universe.

The most money is made from crime. The US military industrial complex is the largest criminal gang in the world.

I thought this was going to be “old money”. I thought Old money was families going back to the Mayflour. These are families that made their money during the Industrial Revolution. Most people interested in this topic know about these people.

😂 I see that most of the money in America is controlled by about 10 or 15 Families in this Country.
If it doesn’t say slaves, in each one of their histories. I don’t believe it

Almost every family on here got rich after US slavery ended, and John D. Rockefeller was an abolitionist very anti-slavery... Nelson Rockefeller worked closely with MLK...
