The "T" in the logo always reminded me of the top of a shirt collar and tie, that The Beatles had just started wearing.
@boomerguy9935

The suit and tie outfit was Epstein's idea. He didn't even want them to smoke in public because he wanted them to have a "clean" reputation as opposed to the "bad boys", Rolling Stones. After Epstein died, the Fab Four made their own decisions about fashion and image.

I think it's just an old-fashioned signwriter's interpretation of a generic serif face; these guys had usually been apprenticed to someone who had been apprenticed to someone..... and every signwriter would have his own version that had evolved over the decades. I assume so anyway. There are certainly echoes of Garamond, Times and Baskerville in there.

I saw them on Ed Sullivan on TV as it happened and I DO know everything I need to know about the Beatles. I.E. Paul McCartney had a step sister who he used to9 get along with but they haven't spoken for decades... OR At one time before he lived in The Dakota in N.Y.C., John Lennon went house hunting in Rockland County, NY (a suburb of N.Y.C.) ... OR George Harrison actually played guitar in a band publicly in Illinois BEFORE the Beatles had their U.S. debut in February 1964.

Boy oh boy WWE - Geoff was one of the last insiders that were 'there' making history and in Geoff's case = breaking every rule the suits told you not to - close mic-ing de-tuned drums with Fairchild compressor - putting mics inside the bells of horns and whacking them with compression on and on.. The Ludwig Drum Factory in Chicago did not put the Logo on the product until April 1964. Mr William Ludwig Sr. thought it was not in good taste and felt the front of the drum head was for the placement of the artist name only, however a Ludwig logo decal was placed on the product because Mr Ludwig's son, William Ludwig Jr. felt it would be good for business. It was only after the Ed Sullivan appearance that the company placed their logo on the front of their new drum sets. I talked with Mr Ludwig Sr. about that in early 1973 when I visited the factory. The hardware on the sets also became much thinner by mid 1964. The quality of these drum sets were amazing up to April of 1964. As part of a deal with Ringo Starr and the promotions of the Ludwig product , Ringo was invited to the factory in early September 1964 and presented with a top of the line Ludwig Snare. Sales took off for Ludwig and their small operation grew from forty people to couple of hundred to keep up with sales. Everyone that aspired to become a drummer wanted the black oyster finish. Things were good until they found out you needed to have expensive lessons to learn how to read music and hundreds of hours of practice to play them properly lol. Great video guys.

I really like this channel and I really appreciate all the effort put into it. I just stumbled on this channel today when I chased some Tame Impala down a rabbit hole and I don’t usually leave a lot of KZbin comments but I’m a firm believer that the world would be a better place if people didn’t keep their mouths shut when they enjoy or appreciate things. We all love to speak up when we have something critical to say but maybe not so much when it’s positive, for whatever reason. There are a lot of channels kind of like this one but I find the stories just a little bit more interesting and researched and I really, really enjoy the host. I don’t get that “music snob” feeling that we are all so familiar with...it just feels like how people actually talk to friends and family about music...like someone who just really enjoys music and wants to share that with people. I’m so happy I found this today, I think you are dope and I learned some stuff too 😊 thanks!!

I was 14 years old when I watched them live on The Ed Sullivan Show. My entire high school was talking about this show at school the next day. Our parents on the other hand, had no idea what we were talking about. The following year, the move Hard Day's Night came out and we were all in heaven. I still have all my vinyl records from back then -- actually, my daughter has possession of them with instructions to never sell them. Wonderful times in spite of the Cold War, JFK's assassination and other sad things.

Very interesting documentary. I was 8 years old when the Beatles made their entrance in America, so I pretty much grew up with them - I couldn't get away from them. They were redundantly "everywhere" during their heyday. But they were probably the best group during the time they were together. Although no one of my generation couldn't go anywhere without seeing "Beatles this" and hearing "Beatles that", the whole world was emotionally distraught when they broke up. It was the end of an era. Then when John bought it in 1983, the last hopes of a reunion died with him.

There's something so iconic about the Beatles logo. The T almost reminds me of a cross, as in they truly are the Gods of music. It's just so distinct and has a bit of a royal feel to it as well. Simple but powerful. However I mostly associate it with the pre 1966 Beatles when they were still performing live and you would see it at the front of Ringo's drum kit. Don't believe Pete Best had anything at the front of his drum kit but I have seen some pictures of an old logo they used pre Ringo but it looked a bit mod-ish. I think they used to hang it up on the wall of the cavern behind them before playing. www.beatlesbible.com/wp/media/620405-beatles-cavern_01.jpg

Eddie Stokes should have a book about him. There seems to be very little out there about him but we've ALL seen his lettering. Word is he came in on his spare or lunch time to paint logos for Ivor so this was just another logo. He did promo Beatle drum heads as well which aren't mentioned here or by the referenced Mr Expert-pants. Eddie also did Keith's double bass drum set THE ~ WHO, and he did Ginger Baker's 'Ginger ~ Baker' double set and others as well and you can see the stylistic similarities in the serifs and thickness of the type style. 🥁

One band to keep an eye out for is wax fang, they became popular from an episode of american dad, with only 4 studio albums in limited print it may be hard to come across them but they don't have anywhere near the following they deserve and maybe your show could shine some light on them. Nope, not for me; MTB isn't something they planned, worked on, or intended to be released; it's a hybrid nothing that has more to do with USA Capitol than with the beatles. Has the same status for me as, say, RockNRoll music: a release that's not really part of the Beatles canon per se, and more a product of the corporate world rather than the artistic world. As such, not really on my radar.

They can't be screen printed because the res heads need tuning,It would break up when the resistance changed on the surface of the head.. its why a lot of bands magic marker logos on,..it means you can just touch it up with pen now and then!

I would think it would depend on the type of ink used. I would have to think what ever ink/paint was used to put it on by hand would have to have a screen/stencil usable version. Ringo said the Ludwig logo could be removed, so a vinyl sticker? My friend makes professional drums, I will ask him. I know he has overlays for when he gigs with different cover bands that are printed that he attaches to the drum, (We are both graphic Artists in the printing industry), so there had to be a 60's equivalent.

Interesting ... "Paul" McCartney is actually a set of twins we call Paul and Mike. Original Paul, the guy most seen in Hard Day's Night, was gradually eased out, but they both appeared until about 1990. Now I am seeing more and more "Mike" in the earlier photos, as in this video.
