At 1:25 the narrator says that the airlift dropped "2.3 million pounds of supplies". It was actually 2.3 million tons, 2000 times that amount.

at 0:43 it even says tons, he just misspoke at 1:25

I still have a cookbook handed down from my grandmother with recipes compiled by the military wives in West Berlin where my grandfather was stationed to best use the ingredients that were airlifted in. My favorite historical document...

Oh my God! Ken...are you serious? I mentioned above that my father was General Tunner's chief navigator during 10 months of non-stop airlifts to Berlin. He's been gone for 18 years now, but I don't go a day without thinking of him. Is there any way to copy some of your cookbook? I might have something I can exchange that you might find interesting.

Không cần biết tư bản hay cộng sản nhưng cách hành sử của giới quân nhân đối với civilian express the honor and dignity of what human and dinvinty had called dignity and honor

A B-57 in the thumbnail? A Boeing 247? You're the Smithsonian....?????
@anthonyeaton51536 ай бұрын
That B57 is actually a British Canberra😉
@bivideo76 ай бұрын
@@anthonyeaton5153 Nope. The Canberra never had a tandem cockpit. The Martin company modified the airframe to match US standards. The Brits used the solo pilot canopy, bomb-aimer concept.

What’s the plane in the thumbnail?
@jamespalm18666 жыл бұрын
Michael Lenoch it was an English Electric Canberra.

Of course they ignored the British and Canadians huge contribution to this story. But that’s just history for the Smithsonian.

Majority of the operations was carried out by the United States. With contributions by the Australian, French, New Zealander and South African air forces.

I agree. I'm American and it irritates me that they don't bother to include all of the allies. It's ridiculous to even begin to make a video of the Berlin Airlift under 2:00. My father was General Tunner's chief navigator for almost 20 years. He flew every mission with General Tunner and two other pilots that were part of General Tunner's finest crew. All the allied forces created a miracle in what they did to save a population of over 2 million people. Stalin would have just allowed them to die. That's what Communism does.....it weeds out the unwanted.

This is one of the worst short videos about Berlin Airlift I saw so far.
