A220 is a free gift from Boeing to Airbus. Without their lawsuit, the aircraft would remain as the C series. Boeing originally had the chance to take over this airctaft, they passed, even thus it would be easy replacement to B737...

Great video! I saw first hand most of what you covered, I worked at Bombardier for 33 years, ( I was on the CRJ 700-900 program ) and I can tell you that I was devastated when we lost our pride and joy. I am still very bitter even though I don't work there anymore. I'm a Canadian and proud of what we accomplished, but to helplessly see Bombardier give away it's crown jewel simply broke my heart. I'm very happy to see it gain traction, selling well and especially to see it flying with passengers and operators being more than content with this airplane. Yup, we did good... As for our top management, well I really don't want to go there 'cause I could write down some nasty stuff and this is not the place to do so. Thank you for your time to do such a video, much appreciated. Tony.

My pleasure - thanks for watching and for the work you put into Bombardier! A lot of Canadians are proud of the aircraft, but I can only imagine how it'd feel to be working there when the sale to Airbus happened. Seeing the aircraft get such a warm reception is indeed a great, if not bittersweet feeling. Hope you stick around for future videos 😄

I have the same feelings you have. I also worked at Bombardier for 24 years, and still pissed off at that transaction, no, gift to airbus.... I am proud of what we created .... a 21 first century airplane. That reminds me the Avro Arrow project from the late 1950.........

I little bit curious about the bad executives that killed the companies. You surely know the names.

@@naubermiranda1025 Hello Nauber. It's not as simple as the one sentence that I wrote. There were many actors at play . I obviously was not present at any of these meetings. But by simple deduction, one can easily see that they ( upper management ) were spending and spreading a lot of capital by starting 3 huge projects at once. The new global express, the new composite fuselage for the learjet and of course the C-series. Money was lost, and lots of it. The lear jet project was trashed after dumping a whooping 1.3 billion dollars. That was the same amount the government injected to keep us afloat. Anybody with any experience with managing new projects are not immune to cost overruns. Apparently they did not learn from their prior mistakes and had the arrogance to press on , which was a huge mistake for this company. We lost the new learjet, the C-series, the train division, and in the end the CRJ program ( which was sold to Mitsubishi a direct competitor for the CRJ ). So now this company went back to making only small private jets. I was a young man when Laurent Beaudoin took over Canadair. This man I am very proud of, he brought the company to never seen before heights everything went sideways slowly at first but relentlessly never stopped till our final demise... So in a sense I was lucky to see the rise of Bombardier Aéronautique , only to see it shrivel at my retirement. Big Bummer! If you really want names, I guess you will have to make some investigative research to whom was in charge in a particular year and what they did. Alain Bellemare ( CEO ) was the one who sold/gave the C-series away. I my opinion, I think he knew that the company would go belly up, and in his 5 year contract had to make it happen . Bombardier got into a huge financial problem by then and unfortunately for him, he was tasked with the ugly job of finishing off a sinking ship. Tony.

@@tonypavone9775 I can see your point, those guys did it the worse way, a terrible mess. Bombardier and the CSeries were a legit national pride to Canadians. I remember I felt sorry when they sold Embraer to Boeing. I can only imagine how angry I would be as a commited member of the staff. At least, remain the prestigious executive jet lime to remember the glory days.

I actually would like to see the A220s replace the A320 line up all together 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 the A321XLR's can stay around for alittle longer but the A319s and 320s need to be replaced and i hope that Delta orders more A220s to replace it's A319s and A320s and it's 738s/737-800s!!!!!!

Why do you say there was no airplane in the 100-150 pax range in the early 2000's? The Embraer E series has been in production since 2004. Bombardier just hopped on the trend

Apesar da surra que os E190/95E 2 estão levando dos A220,essa surra poderia ser pior se não fosse os atrasos e problemas que a bombardier enfrentou,esse avião e maravilhoso e a aposta da empresa foi certeira...

@naubermiranda1025 Жыл бұрын
Se vc considerar só o A220-100, que é quem realmente compete com os Ejets, a surra não é tão grande. O A220-300 já não é avião regional, compete é com B737

3:00 : Boeing did a smaller 787 because they already had the large 747 and 777 while Airbus was very successful with the smaller A330. Airbus did the larger A380 and A350 because already had the smaller A330 while Boeing was very successful with the larger 747 and 777. (And the A380 also mainly just for bragging right "we have the biggest toy". You have to remember that Airbus really suffered from having 0 reputation at the beginning, they had to rent the first a300 for free). Interestingly the 787 is slightly larger than the A330 and the A350 is slightly smaller than the 777. So as far as I'm concerned, this "Airbus believed in hub and Boeing in point to point" say is B/S. Both manufacturer where just filling the gaps in their offer.
@TheFlyingMooseCA
@TheFlyingMooseCA 2 жыл бұрын
I'd wager that the decision to even "fill the gap" by making the A380 shows that Airbus believed in the future of hub - otherwise, they could've doubled down on direct designs like the A350 instead of pouring money into a superjumbo. Perhaps both manufacturers went down that route as a hedge of sorts, as nobody ever really knows how things will turn out :^)
