They are still debating which of this two truly ended the reign of the dinosaurs. But in all likelihood, it was a combination that contributed the factors leading up to the extinction of the dinos. The former was slowly killing and damaging the Earth's biosphere. By the time the Deccan Traps cool-down, most life on the planet were devastated. The KT-asteroid impact was the final nail in the coffin that prevented the surviving dino species to bounced back. Massive shockwaves from the asteroid reignited the Deccan Traps to continuously spew it deadly gases in the atmosphere again before eventually completely shutting down itself. You ever wonder how such some species is able to survived this gruesome period of Earth's geological history? The answer is that they are extremely resilient. The most devastated extinction event, the Permian-Triassic extinction event, otherwise known as the Great Dying, was the planet close call of life near-complete collapse and erasure from existence. But life finds a way to survived and adapt. The KT-extinction is nowhere near as impactful and extremely fatal in comparison to the Great Dying. If there's another massive volcanic eruptions like the Siberian Traps and Deccan Traps. It wouldn't likely happened in our lifetime. It'll probably occur millions of years from now. Like the birb said, "there's nothing to worry about".
