It takes a lot to run a steam-powered locomotive on the Disneyland Railroad, as the engineers and firemen show us from inside the cab of one of the engines on a normal operating day. Video by Mark Eades, ocregister.com

Two longs, a short, and a long whistle for crossings is a recognized standard with real railroads.

No wonder Betty Jo of the Petticoat Junction has smile when she operates the Hooterville Cannonball. Looks like a lot of fun.

Both those steam engines run or Liquid petroleum gas. Last time I was there which was 2010 the engineer told me.

I believe they now run on biodiesel made from the waste oils from the restaurants

I would love to run one of those

I wonder what the FRA would say about his smartwatch. Lol. They're probably not even under their jurisdiction.

At 1:43 where is the engine? Because it says there is an uphill grade

Wait, what guage is the engine, it looks a little to big for narrow guage, and a little for standard gauge
@adamburnes36553 жыл бұрын
It’s a three foot gauge, which is the most common narrow gauge in the US.

Get hired by a RR. , pass all the tests, learn the route..Start out as a conductor..depending on RR,, may be 2 years or 8 years before you can apply for a Engineer job....Railroading is not for everyone, you are on call 24/7 365, and will be away from home a lot...hard work in all weather conditions, when you get called in to work, you have 1-2 hours to be there and can not turn down the request.

Why? Don't trains run on schedules?
@Island_Line_Rail_Productions6 жыл бұрын
no...when the freight is ready a crew is dispatched

What kind of fuel does it burn?
@manga126 жыл бұрын
well its not coal most likely its an oil burner, I thought maybe natural gas but its most likely an oil burner they way the valves look on it, if it were coal it would be a whole lot dirtier, and with an engine that small you would see the fireman shoveling occasionaly, but this is not the case at disney world.

No oil Walt Disney didn't like dirt in his parks. So he chose propane as his fuel. All the steam engines burns propane both in Florida and California.
@evanburt27665 жыл бұрын
James Shanks it runs on a mix #2 diesel and French fry oil
@mikado15553 жыл бұрын
@@jamesshanks2614 in this video, they are burning oil; the valves are set up for an oil burner. Disney World burns oil.

The train would not go kaboom without water. Most engines have a layer of water if it reaches that lower level the water is dropped on the fire putting it out making a boiler explosion next to impossible. Plus too much pressure will be released through emergency pressure release things. What actually happens with not enough water is you ruin the engine because it starts to melt.
@thegreatcanadianlumberjack53073 жыл бұрын
Your talking about fusable plugs. Some engines do have them but a lot of them don't. Boiler explosions are caused by a lack of or no water on top of the Crown sheet which causes the Crown sheet to Heat up and weaken and when water hit's the red hot crown sheet it ruptures and no crew and even the passengers will walk away usually alive and yes the whole engine can explode, they do happen but they are rare. Take this example CPR 1275 in 1995 suffered a backdraft explosion in the firebox due to a lack of water (Well and poor maintance too which cause scale to build up and the water glass gave a false reading) The Design of the Crown sheet luckily prevented it from being a true boiler explosion. And i'm guessing your talking about the Safety Valves which are set to trigger once the boiler reaches the Peak operating pressure Which is usually 150-200 PSI depending on the engine
