How The Golden State Warriors Built a Dynasty

The Golden State Warriors’ dynasty and how they built it is one of the most remarkable stories in sports. Their story is a roller-coaster filled with uncertainty, excitement, and even disappointment. How did they grow the big 3 of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green? How did they win 73 games, and then position themselves to sign a superstar in Kevin Durant on top of it? How did Stephen Curry become one of the most impactful players in NBA history? This is how the Golden State Warriors went from a franchise with no future, to an NBA dynasty.

The Ws had a lot of luck too. David Khan drafted 2 PGs ahead of Steph, they unsuccessfully tried to trade Steph 3x. To PHX, but Amare had health issues, Steph/Klay for CP3 but Cp3 vetoed, and to Bucks. Instead of Kerr they offered the head coaching job to Stan Vangundy 1st but he turned it down to be Pres of Det. They agreed to trade Klay for K Love but Jerry West talked them out of it. A David Lee injury help them discover Draymond’s greatness. Steph’s bad ankles caused him to sign a less than max rook ext which helped them sign KD. But hats off to them cuz in the end the correct moves were made and a dynasty was built.

What sets Curry, Thompson and Green apart from other great players is they allow themselves to be coached. They know they're great players but they never stop listening and working with their coaches. Draymond Green has had fights with Steve Kerr but he never tried to sabotage games and make their coaches look bad. He could have left the warriors and "prove his worth" with another team. Players are imperfect and so are coaches. Kerr's deficiencies as a coach have been exposed many times but his star players are still willing to listen to him. Curry has never publicly criticized Kerr nor has he leaked his anything against Kerr to reporters to stir up dramas. It's a credit to Kerr but also a credit to his best players.

what? I think the biggest definition of a superteam is having 6 former and current all-stars all playing at a high level on the same team. 2014-2016 they weren't a superteam, if you consider them a superteam you also consider the showtime lakers a superteam which is just not the case. 2017-2019 was fully manufactured through trades and free-agency, which is the definition of a superteam (Definition: Any team who adds an All-NBA level player via trade or free agency and - including the new player - has a roster with at least three All-Star players during the season or partial season following the acquisition.) they added KD and Cousins to their roster via trades and free-agency, which literally makes them a superteam.

I will always remember this team. Right at the time this dynasty was forming, I was in my teenage years. I wasn't interested in the nba at the time however, I remember always hearing the names "Stephen Curry" and "Kevin Durant" in everyone's conversations at High school. This team marked an era in those years 2014-2018 and I will always remember them, just as one remembers the music or fashion of his youth.

Thank you! Thank you for this compilation of how the Golden State Warriors built their dynasty. I have a young co-worker who for some reason keeps me updated on the NBA - knowing that I lost interest in basketball decades ago when I stopped playing. Topping out at 5-6 and never developing a left-handed dribble - let alone a shooting style - I quietly walked away. Still, I have appreciated the warriors of the Court - their drive, endurance, and perseverance. Our pastor used to mention Steph Curry from the pulpit: that's the impact the sharpshooter and his team made on us in the Midwest. I knew Bill Russell had gained prominence in the Bay Area while in college - and that the Warriors hadn't been a factor for a long time. So, the other day, my co-worker tells me Klay Thompson hadn't made a shot for the first time in his career. I didn't even recognize the name, let alone realize what this meant for a key factor in the history of the dynasty. Your video helped me. It takes more than a notion to commit to a 53-minute-long video these days. You didn't disappoint. You helped bring me up to date on over a decade of activity in the NBA and the story of one of the most dominant teams in basketball history. Very well done!

Warriors were very lucky, it was really hard to predict Steph Curry as a future legend with how often he would get injured. But in the end he changed the game and made 3 pointers king. Well done Curry.

This is the main issue with teams today trying to build a super team. Since it's more on recruiting all-stars rather than creating them, it suffers from lack of depth with the bench, or too many egos clashing in the locker room. Simply put, they're trying to take a shortcut to what took GSW years to build.

Agree. It all started with Lebron. In Cleveland, Miami and now Lakers. Thats why players are not loyal to their franchise anymore because they wanted a shortcut to have a ring. There are no more rival teams in the NBA unlike before.

@@stratosphere2323 the downfall of the Warriors was due to injuries mate. KD was out, Klay was out, Cousins was out, literally leaving Steph to get massacred by the Raptors' Kawhi Leonard and Lowry. And even without their best players, the Warriors were only 4, I repeat, 4 points away from a game 7 which they still would have probably lost, but still pretty damn close. You're the only hypocrite in this reply section, pal.

Its crazy how Warriors sidelined tons of opportunities to a fast win for the franchise. Instead, they choose growth and depth in the team rather than picking up or trading their own for better players. They trusted their players that eventually in the long term, years later, will grow and all their hardwork will pay off. I love how slowly but surely they get better each season despite the set backs. It did not made them break, it made them become better and stronger. This is what no other team in NBA can replicate no matter how many great players they collect because this team, they built it for several years to be this great.

It is so insane and amazing to watch videos on how people used to view Curry when he first came in the league. Or the disgust Warriors fans had when they traded Ellis over Steph. I mean hindsight is 20/20 but looking back, the idea of trading Steph is ludicrous.

dylandoesbasketball, I can't even imagine the hours of hard work you put into this video. Excellent job! Thanks! I do want to point out that you said that Andre Iguodala was more than happy to step into the sixth man role; however, if you read his book, , you know that he wasn't exactly excited about stepping out of his starting role. He was glad at the end of the year with championship and Finals MVP in hand, but not so much at the beginning of the season. He had to make a leap of faith and trust his coach...and the rest is history, as they say!
