So there seems to be three types of index notes: 1. Categories by letter. As in: All terms that begin with “A” 2. Categories by Term. One card for the word “Adapt” as it appeared multiple times in “A”, for any related term that contains that word 3. Topic Cards. “Computer Science” and all topics within. (This one got the least screen time) but would this be mixed in with the other index notes? Is this the classic “Hub Note” Luhman had?

Great videos and great channel. One question is worth it to start a mini-zettlekasten box for a specific book that a person wants to write? Or the system should be comprehensive in order to be effective!

Thanks for another great video. When I "Promote" an index entry to a card of its own, I underline the keyword rather than crossing it out. A few words on which keywords to index would be helpful. I think I tend to over due it.

@@scottscheper thanks..Just watched your video, subscribed and bought your book. I’m so excited. I want to actually use this to study the Bible with other resources not sure how to do it though. I want to pose questions to myself on subjects and topics and gather information on them to help me further understand them. Not sure how to go about that from what i understand so far but I’ll get familiar with the basics first. Any suggestions? Where do I store my original questions? I’m gonna have to figure something out with this system

Is there a reason for the different size cards, or is that just evolution of your system from smaller to big cards?

Do you see any drawbacks using little field note notebooks instead of index cards?

Yes, it's more difficult to evolve and inwardly expand individual ideas

Thanks so much for your detailed videos! one question comes up for me in the whole process: Is a word which you put in the index the same as a "tag"? The reason I ask that is: is one card only assigned to one word in the index? Because with the concept of tags (at least in my understanding) I could assign one card to more than one word in the index. And this would obviously provide more connections. And even with the approach of atomic notes I have mostly more than one word to which I can refer the note. I'm very curious what you think about that.
@scottscheper2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you could say it's similar to a tag. Yet in digital people "overtag" their notes. In the Antinet, you only point the keyterm to one or two cards. You don't want to overtag things. It forces you to be very selective about the true core idea contained in the card.

This video was so very helpful, Scott. Thank you. Filled in a lot of gaps. I’m assuming one would need to look in the box to see what alpha/num. comes next in a sequence. What happens if you’ve taken cards out to use for writing? Do you use placeholders? BTW, I love it that there is room for mistakes and that mistakes actually can inform future learning.
@scottscheper2 жыл бұрын
Yep! Placeholder cards I use bright lime green blank cards. You can see them in my videos usually

Somewhat arbitrarily. They're based on academic disciplinary fields: drive.google.com/file/u/1/d/1DOJHw9R8LzvfD8w0AE65vKXSLdfBve0v/view?usp=sharing

@@scottscheper thx. I am just getting started and still have a lot of confusion about how to “address” the cards. I am sort of going on the assumption at this point that it doesn’t matter much whether I totally get Ahrens instructions on this (I don’t), that quite likely my own system will evolve and make sense to me. Thoughts?

@@scottscheper not finding them on Amazon. Is Vaultz the brand? Did find something online that looks like it. One two drawer unit holds about 3000 cards, cost about $100. Is that it? Some reviewers complain about the hassle of holding the lid open while rifling through. Do you find that to be a problem? Thx you🙏

It's the difficulty necessary to learn something that can't be learned anywhere else. It must be arduous to prove its worth. Everything else is just the unbearable lightness of being. Who has enough bite these days to get hold of something, no matter what the cost.
