That How to Take Smart Notes Book was such trash! hundreds of pages of the same thing over and over, more confusing each time he said it. I finally threw it across the room after putting toothpicks in my eyes to keep them open and still not succeeding in finishing that nonsense. You are literally the only one I have found who actually USES a zettelkasten and has done source research and clearly explain how it really works. <clouds part, ray of sunshine, angels singing> lol

@@scottscheper thanks..Just watched your video, subscribed and bought your book. I’m so excited. I want to actually use this to study the Bible with other resources not sure how to do it though. I want to pose questions to myself on subjects and topics and gather information on them to help me further understand them. Not sure how to go about that from what i understand so far but I’ll get familiar with the basics first. Any suggestions? Where do I store my original questions? I’m gonna have to figure something out with this system

You asked for feedback. I love your presentation. You are making your antinet work and I am looking for how to make them work for me. Having a camera person is very very good. please allow yourself some editing time. Removing the content that is not actually Zettelkasten related, would help, the phone call, the silly banter, etc adds nothing to your calling. Thank you for showing images of your actual cards, even a quick shot is useful to me and your handwriting looks great, yet on my phone and with my eyes it is too small to read, I would, and I suspect many of us would benefit from you reading your cards. There is lots of content here on Facebook and elsewhere on the web touting the benefits of the Zettelkasten methods, but there is almost no in depth content of how it is done, the methods, or hacks. For example how does one create this tree that I keep hearing about but no one cares to explain and show how that is done? Perhaps you already have in your other videos, I will be looking at all of them. Why not use your Zettelkasten to develop a video and show those cards in detail during the video? Start with how you read and what you are putting down on the cards, how you revise the cards, make the indices, how you use create and use the address to find and sort them, and how and when links are discovered and used to make your tree. Really your work is great, but everyone stops at the introduction.

why have muliple indexes for different languages, latin, english etc? I could understand a hebrew or greek index cause they use different letters but to me it makes sense to lump all ideas that use the same alphabet or alephbet together

I got ill with Covid long haul in March 2020 and my job, Myers & Stauffer fired me out of the blue several months ago. We are living on one income and going to the food bank every week. Thanks for these videos, I am Scottish man with Dyslexia, ADHD (and probable Autism) writing any long peice of work has been very difficult and stressful for me. An essay used to take me weeks including, working up all night and handing it in with minuits to spare. In fact I think I am traumatised by Academia. But like a battered woman going back to a lousy no good wife beating peice of shit I find myself going back to studying again and again. I think I am reliving it to try solve some previous trauma. I think this Antinet stuff might be the answer, or part of the answer, to being able to collect and store info, to think and to write like a normal neurotypical.

Great video. I was getting hung up on note taking which really is a distraction from writing for me. I do like the idea of the numbering structure and am incorporating that. What I am finding is that a hybrid approach like you describe is working well for organization purposes on individual projects. Mindmapping helps much like an outline but giving myself the freedom to make changes to the structure in an organic way has allowed me to focus and be more productive. From the mindmap I can create a basic starting workflow. Love your ideas and videos. Thanks.

As you can well imagine this involves the study of several topics: • strategy • math • behavior …as well as many more. Organizing my research into an accessible format has always been my Gideon’s knot. And with my Zettlekasten? Well, let’s just say the wisdom I seek is at my fingertips. Thank you for this video 👍

I don’t want to waste cards on a bunch of academic disciplines I don’t read in my box because I only focus on 1 or two and would benefit more from having categories that are the focus of what I actually read which stay within the 1 or 2 disciplines (ie psychology and social work or subcategories like mental health/ interpersonal practice, policy, social justice/ organizing, ). If my goal is a book within my academic discipline will this system still work if I have one or two disciplines or no? I can’t start because these categories throw me off.

After years, YEARS, of searching for both a way to study AND create a calendar with a multipurpose usefulness, which includes everything from budgeting to a grocery list, Zet has given me that. And more… In addition to creating a funnel to take my random thoughts and put them into a cohesive and accessible form, it allows me to learn what I am studying; rather than memorizing? I integrate. Utterly fabulous. Amazing. And thanks.

I am about two days in and what I am doing to start for categories is to go to the Wikipedia academic discipline outline page and then go to a specific category. An example for me would be for Organizational Psychology which would be Social Sciences (2) and then go to the subcategories and count down to Psychology is the 8th one down and so it is 2800. Repeating the process, I open up the Psychology subcategories and count down to 37 which is Organizational Psychology and so that is noted as 2837. Is that what others are dong? If not it may be my first earned mistake PS For convivence I did a copy and past of the full Psychology subcategories (there are 59) and reformatted the bullets to numbers, giving the complete numbering system, so I don't have to strain my eyes and keep count as I count the bullets. Then I put them in my main box behind Psychology as 2800.1.

I just absolutely can not do physical zettelkasten. A primary requirement of any system, for me, would be: 1. portability - i must have access to it at all times 2. it must be able to survive a fire, flood, theft, etc 3. speed

Question: If I am watching a video and getting research information for my zettelkasten, do I treat the video as if I am reading a book? What I mean is this: do I fill out a Bibliography card and take notes on the back, and then expand individual topics from the video onto a main card after I have watched the video? If so, then what do I put at the top of the Bibliography card (since t=often times there is no 'author' - do I use the name of the Channel? Do you then put a cross reference to the Bibliography card onto the main card created from that Bibliography card? How do you do this? I really look forward to an answer (maybe even a video showing how you do it).

Hi Scott, I rarely comment on videos, but your work is really impressive. Thank you for spreading this concept to the people. Even though I have watched several of your videos about Zettelkasten, there are still things I get lost in and I couldn´t find the answers. I will be very grateful if you take some minute to answer my questions: 1. Do I really need to write and archive staging cards? I'm just starting out, but when I consume some content, I underline what I'm interested in and then make main cards straight from that. Occasionally I will add my thoughts here, but mostly they are the author's thoughts rephrased in my own words. 2. Do I necessarily have to add my own thoughts to the excerpts, or can they stand on their own as a main cards? 3. Should I aim to produce an output in the process? I don't plan to write books or articles, but I am interested in self-development and would like to archive important ideas (other people's as well as mine). My project is to become the best version of myself. 4. Can I also use Zettelkasten as a journaling tool? Something as a new branch full of reflections only? 5. How do I write step-by-step instructions in Zettelkasten? Are there any differencies? Thank You, Have a nice day 🙂
