This information is invaluable 😍 you are doing a magnificent job. Keep going strong & true. I do have a couple of questions Dan mentioned that most maroons are now born in Jamaica 🇯🇲 so is it possible to have dual citizenship in Cockpit County & Jamaica? Can it be done without feeling somewhat compromised or conflicted?

Great interview. One small correction the song at 1:31,min is actually a Kenyan song by Daudi Kabaka sung in Kiswahili and not Twi. The title is Harambee Harambee full lyrics and translation can be found on Google and I believe here on KZbin as well.

Its not only maroons. There were others who didn't even get touched by the colonists. Parotee are 1 of them. An omitted people who like the arawak are part and parcel of the Americas. These were original negros but the generations from say about 90s and younger have almost little to no knowledge of these people.

Watching this 4-part series from Barbados, thanks for this Rochielin! It may be way too late to have questions but I am so curious as a cultural studies student about some cultural practices - What rituals, indigenous festivals other than January 6th, social norms etc make up the culture? If you ever go back I'd love to see that. But I know that it may be that these are kept secret to protect them which is what the ancestors did. About to watch the other 2-part Maroon series so perhaps more is there too. Blessings.

Ouite a few people are challenging the sovereignty of the Maroons, but as Daniel rightly said, indigenous rights of the Maroons are rights that can help all Jamaicans to rise to their highest potential. Also, if the sovereignty of the Maroons were not in place, the natural resources such as water, forrestry, medicinal herbs, precious mineral, and wild life would be left unprotected for off-shore entities to exploit. Hence , mining would destroy the water shed, weather system, and other environmental factors that are not replaceable I would have liked to hear Daniel's point of view on the idea of ecotourism because I feel that this type of initiative would be a sustainable venture that would generate income capital for maroons and all Jamaicans. Ecotourism would also help to build the infrastructure of the territory and to preserve the culture of the Maroons

Truth. Truth. Jamaica future-wealth development is tied up with the maroons. The loophole we have as a people to develop as a true independent nation lies in the freedom the maroons carved out. There is so much to gain in working with them in unity.

I don't really like the term that Maroons avoid paying taxes. Maroons ended slavery in Jamaica and is sovereign apart from Parliamentary Jamaica. Is it fair to tax a people who is self reliant and do not depend on government services to pay taxes?
@judvu1926
@judvu1926 10 ай бұрын
Where do you get this idea that Maroons ended Slavery ? The Maroons signed a Treaty that made them the police force that prevented other Slaves from being free . The Maroon version of everything is one big lie that attempts to cover their betrayal of the enslaved . All total lies . NANNY was a Ghanaian that never left Ghana . 1838 was the year that slavery ended . One hundred years after the Treaty , that's how long the Maroons kept black people in Slavery and to this day they dont celebrate Emancipation because that was when Maroons lost their power over other Slaves . Let them talk about Maroon war of 1795 and how they tried to suppress the Morant Bay uprising in 1865 led by Paul Bogle . They are a disgusting bunch of people trying to rekindle the power they once had over other black Jamaicans . The Treaty between Maroons and British ended in 1795 when the British made Maroons fight against Maroons under the Treaty they signed in 1738 . 1838 was the year that Maroons ceased to exist because all black Slaves became Free and until 1865 when Morant Bay Rebellion saw the Maroons attempted to become relevant again . They need to retreat back into History or become part of a modern Jamaica . They who lived after 1738 have no rights to pose as freedom fighters . They are Traitors .
