It happened because Browner was in Butlers ear already knowing what play would be coming. Browner played against this in practice for years as one of the founding members of the LOB.

Jackson missed the most important thing that happened in this end of game series. BELICHICK NOT TAKING A TIMEOUT. Atfer a run by Beast-Mode, and the clock still running. Seaweed coach poop-in-the-pants Pete says ' Plenty of time to call a play, as Belichick will call a timeout to save time for Brady.' 10 seconds later, with time ticking off the clock pants-full-of-poop Pete says ' Brainless Belichick didn't call no timeout. We got to call a pass play to get a TD or stop the clock.' Then Butler makes a great play on the pass play. BUT, the pass play was forced on Carrol by Belichick not calling timeout.

Interesting take, hadn't considered that. If they ran and didn't make it they would have needed to use their last TO.

You're right about Carroll was in panic mode. He assumed BB would call a timeout and seemed to be shocked when the clock was winding down and it was up to him to keep calling offensive plays.

I’m a Seahawks fan so it’s a sore subject around here, but I was trying to explain just this! I think it was more so Pete thought they were going to review the Kearse catch because he burned his timeout after that catch before the run to the 1. But all the same, by not using their timeout it forced SEA to have to pass in 4 down situation.

Yeah it was absolutely terrifying at the Patriots fan watching the clock tick down. If Seattle scored holy shit with belichick have been second guessed. He claims he looked over and that the sideline in Seattle looked a little overwhelmed

Michael Lombardi, former Browns GM and Belichick confidante was a coaching assistant during this Super Bowl run wrote about this play and its origins in his book 'Gridiron Genius.' It brings light to how this specific play/package had been practiced for years without having seen the field. Easily accessible it is well worth the read purely for the Belichick and Bill Walsh insights on what it takes to succeed in the NFL. Solid video as always, Jackson.

Been saying for years Browner doesn’t get enough credit on that play. Most pick plays I’ve seen on the goal line happen with the WR running toward the sideline, like Clemson did against Bama on their game winning TD in the 2017 championship game

Carrol’s explanation for passing on second down was he wanted to maximize number of down with one timeout. Pass second down to stop clock. Run on third, call timeout. Time left for fourth down. Makes sense but that inside pass was dangerous.

Why not do a roll put play where russ can run or pass? Way less risky.

The Malcom Butler pick happened because Tom Brady saw what was going to happen on the sidelines and yelled "Get that pick Butler!!" And so Malcom Butler got the pick. Unreal command over his team!

You have a time out, you have Marshawn, you have the ball at the 3 yard line, you run the damn ball. Instead you throw the ball down the middle where Wilson has always had trouble seeing because he's short af, the whole time butler has INSIDE leverage, way to go.
@TeguhNugrahaPratama
@TeguhNugrahaPratama 10 ай бұрын
"One time out". That was partly the reason why they need to pass at least once, this down or the next to make sure they use all of their downs. QB could do better, but this play was such a great play particularly from Butler and Browner. If TD happened or even incompleted pass, no one would blame Seahawks for passing the ball.

@@TeguhNugrahaPratamaright they never give the defense enough credit. I don’t mind a pass on that play or a throw away given the time left. My take- this is a prime example of a better prepared coaching staff. Hindsight is 20/20 but looking back Pete Carol should’ve switched up the play knowing they got a former Seahawk on their side giving them intel. He got out coached simple as that. Marshawn probably would’ve won them the game off pure strength and talent.

I think this is what happened. I remember Lynch was getting a lot of negativity thrown his way because NFL wasn't happy with his press conferences. I believe this is the SB where he said he's only here to avoid getting fine.

That is all a very tired and lame narrative. Nobody avoids winning the biggest game of the year just to prevent someone from winning an award - that's asinine. I love the Seahawks, but the fact is they just got beat. They probably should have lost to the packers two weeks prior, and their time just ran out. The defense pissed away a massive lead and let brady back into the game, they suffered injuries... they lost the game the whole second half, not just on the final play.

You just don't throw there. And I don't mean that you don't call a pass play, I mean you don't call THAT pass play. You dont throw THERE. Sideline or back of Endzone, it's either a touchdown or incomplete. Roll out, if its not there throw it away. I would have run it. Everyone would have run it. But for the love of god if you must pass, pass situationally smart

The most successful pass plays down on the goal line are a pick or a fade, but usually a pick is run with the WR going toward the sideline like Clemson did to Bama in the 2017 championship game on the game winner.

1. its beast mode 2. running play will eat out time say after marshawn gets it in 3. marshawn could have been open in the open flats on his side of the field for an easy pass undefended ... honestly it felt like amazon was seattle not wanting to win this one ... hey welcome to prime time day and we are giving away a win ... with free same day shipping ... just sign your defender to this x and we'll deliver it to ya ... heyyy ... no problem ... we don't want to potentially build a dynasty ... naah not for us ... got our one bowl last year and we are all good, bro ... enjoy ...
