Hey man, I noticed you brought up a stop sign for both social constructionism and symbolic interactionalism. Great video but it would be great to talk about the macro/micro divide between the two. Thanks again

Hi John, random question but how do you fit evolution in your faith?
@InformingFutureDoctors Жыл бұрын
Hey that's a great question! I'm not sure the comment section will allow us to do this conversation justice so I'll just give you the short answer. I do not think that the two are mutually exclusive. If I believe the first verse in the bible then everything else is easy for me to swallow. I think it is just as possible and likely for the carpenter Jesus to have been the son of God as it is for natural selection to occur on a macro or near-macro level. If God chose to create the heavens and the earth, who am I to say he didn't use things we call "the big bang" or "evolution" to bring about his creation? Or who's to say he didn't create the earth/life with the appearance of being aged? The big pills for me to swallow have always been why do our lives have meaning and how did matter/time have a beginning. To me, Genesis 1:1 gives the most rational explanation to these and everything else just falls into place as I realized that most of my cognitive dissonance came from me looking at the problem incorrectly rather than the solution being wrong. Hope this helps and that's a great question as it's something I've spent many hours thinking about myself :)

The wolf-dog-pet dichotomy isn’t a great example for social constructionism because it’s motivated by intrinsic properties (wolves are objectively more dangerous). A better example would be any kind of currency. A dollar bill is just a piece of paper given value due to the social construct of currency. On an alien planet, a dollar bill would mean nothing to them because its value is not intrinsic.
