Hi I have storage heaters that will only come on at certain times 12 midnight to 7AM do I need an electrician to lift the restrictions.

Hi before having the off peak removed you will need to find out from your supplier if you are using off peak rates or you will see your bills double…. Also is this your house or a flat and do you own or rent ?

@ hi then without the homeowners consent there is not much you can do … there is an EICR on your property so you can’t change anything as a renter…… if your not on off peak then your storage heaters will be on a timer and being rented it is probably sealed. Running storage heaters 24-7 is not advisable as your bill will x4 …. They make heat (stored heat) and release it through out the day

Hi I have storage heaters I don't have off peak well that's what my supplier tells me, I only generally have one on, from 4AM when I switched it on it was reading 2.43Kw would you say that's about the right average amount for normal price.

Hi Aden, the storage heaters come on at night because that is when the electricity is cheapest if you are on an off peak tariff. So basically what happens is the storage heaters are charged with electricity at night during cheaper rates of electricity and then the bricks that are inside of them contain the heat which then means they give off heat all day without using any electricity during peak rates when electricity is most expensive. This is why the electricity is used to charge them at night and then it discharges the heat during the daytime without using electricity when the electricity is most expensive. I hope that helps.
