That can be an issue with the henley blocks, I've seen this before, i use 2 separate henley blocks, which are colour coded brown and blue.

Why isn’t neutral bus and case ground bonded? This would prevented this going unnoticed straight away.

I notice you mention you could have been electrocuted and you could have been this and you could have been that, but I heard not one time you mention anyone else who it would have happened to such as the home owner or renter or their kids. No one is expecting anyone to be perfect but you really shouldn't need to explain proper wiring to the utility company's install technician. It's up to them to verify if their technician is certified and has a full and complete knowledge of how to do their job. My question is was this wiring issue only done wrong at that house and or did he do the same thing in other homes. That meter is totally spying on you people!!!! And why is it inside the house?

To be fair the Henley block is wired incorrectly. The meter operative has connected them as the should be. What would be interesting is to find out which socket they done a Martindale test at (if at all). Because if that socket was the wrong polarity then it would've shown it as correct before and after......

Well the smart meter installer should be reported or struck off, and you, my friend, should practice safe isolation. You were so close to getting a shock. Use the safe isolation tester to test before you get your hands near it. I had to work on live ccts, (military) and you always check where the voltages are before you start, and with a fault, even more so. And leads had too little insulation. You were very lucky. But yes, a neat consumer unit. reading the other comments, I agree that the company should have been informed and told to rectify, asap.

So, the " keepers of the power " that don't allow the humble spark to pull the main fuse, make this complete F**K up .... then to say was tested and sign it ... This needs to be reported as you do not know how many times this has happened.

I wouldnt even taken the front off the consumer unit. The first thing I would have done was asked the homeowner when did the problem first appear? Then, have you had any work done on the property or has anyone done anything. That would then tell you where to look first.

That was most obvious problem,how these get qualified & do that as same happened in mine & a few properties.

They should have checked it before leaving.

So besides making sure they didn't flip the conductors in the first place during the works, the easiest and most basic check of plugging in a £10 ring mains socket tester would of alerted them to their mistake. Makes you wonder if any testing was carried out at all aside from switching it back on and having power...

That is a tiny junction box. Mine is 2 times the size of the door! But it does have full knx home automation.

while it is "fine" to have L and N reversed at the socket, since you can plug any AC device in regardless the orientation of the plug, but having N live is not fine. N is usually connected to PE so as he said, now anything that is grounded is now live on the outside.........
