In the original novel, very early on in the journey, Sanzang and Wukong encountered 6 bandits named after 6 Buddhist sense groups, the same senses that the game's Relics are named after. Wukong brutally killed those 6 bandits, but then after that he was tricked into wearing the headband. Perhaps getting rid of desires is not the answer. Instead, one should master the monkey mind. After all, in Buddhism, there are like 108 desires, and in real life, there are a lot more, and it is impossible to destroy them all. Those desires manifest and interact through the six senses, and if the mind was impure, those desires create good and bad feelings and somewhere inbetween those, creating suffering. And here's a fun thought: Trying to get rid of desires is also a desire. Wukong understood that. It also helped that he witnessed the corruption of the two heavens and the exploitation of wills. Wukong leaving the heavens and returning to monke is just him following his way of life - freedom.

this is true. referring to the Buddha Dhamma. But what I don't understand is that Buddhahood at BMW is like rank/state in the bureaucracy, and Wukong can resign from that title. I think, it deviates from the true meaning of Buddhahood/Enlightenment in Dhamma.
@Edric093 ай бұрын
@hisshiningtears I think it may be referring to both the attainment of enlightenment and also a bureaucracy (in this game). The Gods in this story have forgotten the true essence of Buddahood .

It's not the relics that destroyed Black Myth Wukong universe, it's the resource (will), the source of immortality. the corruption and conflict to control resources were already there, and would be the cause of Wukong rebellion.

@@-abc--6976 True the Relics didn’t literally destroy the universe. But what they represented did. Each of the senses fueled the desire for immortality.

Wukong's right. Every creature that desires power and immortality ruined themselves to seek it. He even warned the Bull King to not take the relic for it would only bring ruin to him.

"Immortality? For that word all manner of beings have ruined themselves" this here is why wukong rebelled against the court by essentially saying "Bro i just wanna chill on my porch and grill" in his codex of the broken shell you can see wukong became very quickly disillusioned with his reclaimed place in the court and the alleged enlightenment he gained upon becoming a buddha at the end of JTTW. "Immortality is not for me" wukong said this to Ju bajie mind you, after he had already did the events in JTTW gaining like 11 layers of immortality already. However as erlang shen said it to himself. "What does it matter if you become a budha? That Headband has ALWAYS been on your head" wukong chose a mortal death to actually bypass the courts control over him and have his TRUE freedom. And thus hopefully by proxy the freedom of his sworn brothers and friends when he told bull king he hoped obeying the court and becoming a budha BY THE BUDHA HIMSELF the court would finally stop bothering him and his bros.

OK I think you’re being a little too harsh on this game unless you understand the full story of Wukong can you truly understand what’s happening in Black myth the thing is it is not the five relics that are making these things happen the beings in this world from the celestial court to the yaoguai kings have always been in constant conflict with themselves and each other. The celestial court are a bunch of control freaks who view everything that’s not in their control a threat, even if it means no harm they do not care for humans and often mess with their lives. Why’ll the yaoguai beings who desire power and immortality above all so much it drives them mad this much did not change in Black myth, even after obtaining the five relics the kings just thought they could use them to accomplish their objectives but could not because although he is gone, they are still Wukongs power The point of this game is that Sun Wukong had experience all these all he wants now is freedom. The crown that was placed on his head during the journey to the west although it’s removed it is still on him, and he can’t truly be free from it. The whole point of this is for him to be reincarnated, but without the crown attached to him, even though he may not be the same person he will at least be free

This is good analysis on the fates of those who took the relics. I'll add, If you've read Journey to the West, We are essentially recreating this journey in our quest.
