So many TV shows/movies have explored this troupe where the “jock” teaches the “nerd” how to be cool in exchange for the nerd helping the jock with his homework. Book smart and street smart are two completely different things and you can excel in one but struggle in the other. Cody throughout the entire series showed little to no street smarts. 24:40 I think making Cody not get into his dream university despite his intellect is a great decision on the writers' part. It's a very realistic struggle that gifted kids have to deal with at one point in life-failing and realizing that they're not going to be the smartest person in the room forever, especially if they don't have the right work ethics and soft skills. It's also a good lesson to every kid in general that sometimes life just doesn't go your way, and things won't always go according to plan. You might not get into that one university you want despite working hard on it, and that's okay. There's always other paths you can follow. I also feel it's a very fitting end for his character. The rest of the video I mostly agree with, and find very entertaining. I love it when people talk about this series, and I think you did a great job.

@@MrNostalgia well originally Disney planned to make another Suite life series. The episode kind of hints at that where Zack says “we’ve lived in a hotel, and a cruise ship, what’s next?” They were originally supposed to take the two brothers to LA and have them get into mischief as adults with Selena Gomez as the new female in the series. That series would’ve likely ended with the brothers parting ways. The sprouse twins didn’t like that idea and pitched their own, Disney laughed in their faces so they left. As a kid, the one thing I easily hated most about this movie is how it treated Bailey. Sure, she's a dumb teenager like the rest of the cast, so it's not unheard of for her to get upset her boyfriend is taking off without her during spring break. HOWEVER Cody was taking a program that could give him so many opportunities after high school. In fact, it's out of character for Bailey to not want in on it upon hearing about it, since she's also a brainy know-it-all like Cody. Even worse is that they reduce her to the cliche "I'm mad at my SO so I'm gonna ghost them and let my anger fester to the point I take it out on other couples" trope the rest of the movie.

I actually warmed up to the suite life finale after actually graduating high school. I think they were trying to end it somewhat realistically rather than make everyone live happily ever after. The way it ends shows had more living ahead of them and that the characters' struggles don't end with the show. I still hate the movie though but I do like how it attempted to deconstruct and wrap up the rivalry between the characters (even if it was completely botched through the movies misunderstanding of the characters themselves)
@RealogOnlyBrodie2 жыл бұрын
I think they wanted to make the ending to the series more open ended because they were originally gonna bring the show back but the sprouse twins fell out with Disney channel so it never came about. That’s why the movie was meant to basically be a character journey between Zack and Cody. They didn’t really develop the characters despite the tone shift and instead did what a normal episode of the show would do but at an extended time period. We also have to take into account that season 2 and 3 of suite life on deck leaned very sci-fi James Bond-type episodes. Most of them not even being dreams. As the show became more of a Disney XD show, they went harder with generic boy stuff. I don’t think this tainted the ending of suite life because most people did like the actual finale as it took the show back to its simple and humble beginnings, it was so good, many people just flat out forgot the movie existed.

Does Zack end up with a job at the hotel, what if the twins both ended up working there? What’s the conflict? What are the motives there, what about a High School Reunion? How does that happen? You SEE The possibilities here? Missed opportunities here, but hey I still like the concept of the film but I just wish it was it’s own thing and not a tie in with the season, that way there is proper motives and feelings. Super late to this video but one interesting thing to add: you mentioned a few times how it’s like the writers has never seen the show and I think that was common for Disney at the time cuz on the wizards of waverly place pod they’ve talked about how the original script for the wizards movie was completely wrong and made almost no sense for a lot of the characters because, according to them, the DCOM writers were completely separate and the creator of wizards had to go in and rewrite a bunch of the script to make it make sense.

So, this is just me spitballing here: If I were to make a Suite Life movie, I would go the Die Hard route: the kids, after graduation, return to the hotel for a giant celebration. Bring everyone back, from Maddie, to Carey, Esteban, Arwin, Agnes, and everyone's favorite character, Bob. When suddenly, uh-oh! Home Alone 3 style robbers arrive and take the Tipton Hostage, forcing Zack and Cody to be a two-man John McClain and put their ever growing rivalry aside to stop the bad guys and save the day. There were also a lot of continuity problems with Hannah Montana the Movie as well. Jackson graduates and goes off to college in the movie, but after the movie airs he is still in high school on the show. Even if you argued the movie aired out of order from the show, in the episode Lilly and Oliver become a couple, Jackson is interviewing for college. Yet in the movie, Lilly talks about wanting to date a cowboy and is seen with one at the very end. The issue with Hannah Montana the Movie is that it was filmed before they even began filming the third season, so there were plot points introduced in the third season that were not even conceived when making the movie. Also, the writers for the show were not involved with the production of the movie, so they didn't know of any of the plot points until midway through the production of season 3. However we don't know when exactly the third season of the Suite Life on Deck or its movie were filmed, but it could be a similar situation.

21:52 ...or a Gravity Falls episode since it's an actual fantastical Disney show about twins. Yeah, I didn't love the movie. It was barely funny, flanderized most of the characters and it veered way too much into its' supernatural concept. To be fair, On Deck has been doing that since the second season literally starting with a spy episode. Or arguably, The International Dateline from season 1. I've been a fan of The Suite Life Saga (that's what I call the franchise) and they deserved better than this. Here's how I would've made a Suite Life Movie: a heist movie. The SS Tipton stops at a location that we haven't seen go to. Egypt or wherever. Through the franchise's typical highjinks, Zack and Cody fight over a never before seen treasure 🪙 through hilarious dumb luck and they take it with them. But this causes a rift between them that might just be what ends their relationship for good. Forcing London, Bailey, Woody, Maya and Addison to take sides. But when an evil Indiana Jones type character finds out about it, he or she or they hold the ship hostage and steals it to take over the world or something. So the kids and Mr Moseby (and maybe Ms. Tutweiler) have to team up to steal it back from their secret lair. Using what they learned from the six years they spent together to fool the villain and take back the treasure, because nostalgia. Throughout the adventure, the cast try to convince Zack and Cody to forgive each other and slowly but surely, they do. They win the day by the characters doing something crazy like crashing a helicopter into the villain's lair and they get the treasure back but not before an epic fight scene. The villain is defeated, Cody and Bailey kiss, Zack and Maya kiss, Woody and Addison kiss and London acts as though she's kissing herself all at the same time. And they use the treasure to fix the SS Tipton's damages as opposed to whatever Zack and Cody want. It's less ridiculous than the plot of this movie, but just ridiculous enough to feel like a longer Suite Life episode, all of the characters have something to do and the twins' relationship can still be strained with the characters having more of a say in what happens in the movie. I have another pitch for how I'd bring back The Suite Life Saga but this comment is long enough as it is.

i also think they didn’t want any of the writers from the show on the movie so that way both could be in production at the same time and crank out product as fast as possible

I really the movie for the most part. It’s not canon & I think of it as a crazy dream Zack had.

I always said that if someone didn't talk about the Suite Life Movie, I would do it myself somedat... but I'm glad I don't have to now because this was a BANGER. I always had a soft spot for the movie but then I always hated the series finale of Suite Life On Deck because I thought that it was rushed and just not satisfying. I never knew the reason as to why the show ended the way it did... until now, and it makes perfect sense. If the show did create a movie that was consistent with the plot of the show and more so just a slice of life movie where Zack goes through character development, the ending would've probably been the best the channel has ever had. It's unfortunate, as the brothers worked for Disney for such a long time, but I'm glad they've moved onto greater things.
@psav20053 ай бұрын
Agreed on the finale feeling rushed, I hated that it wasn't an hour long episode. It was one of the longest franchises ever on the channel and it gets sent off with a weird length 40 minute episode while other long running popular series got a full hour. Made no sense

Is anyone else learning for the first time that Cody did not get into college! I had completely lost interest in Disney Channel by the time suite life ended so I didn't watch the finale and this is the first I am hearing about this.

I remember thinking that submarine scene look soooo bad at the time it aired that I changed the channel. That and I also didn't care for Bailey. But nothing beats how bad the Wizards if Waverly place movie looked, I was SO mad at how horrible the wizard battle looked.

It's clear that with so many plot changes, differences in how the characters act compared to the TV series, and overall sci-fi fantasy that this movie is non-canon to the show.

After watching the Wizards of Waverly Pod it makes sense that the story and characters dont match the show. David DeLuise (Jerry Russo) said that there are different teams for the Disney Channel and for the DCOMs.

I actually liked the movie but I always kept it separate from the show so I guess in my head it wasn't Canon so it didn't bother me with Zach being different I did go back to the show and movie when I was older and definitely saw the flaws but if you try to see it separate it's not a terrible disney channel movie.

11:20 Actually that timeline makes sense to me. Prom usually takes place in May, and spring break usually takes place in March. But I haven’t watched any of the Suite Life on Deck since it originally aired, so I don’t remember how long Zack was supposed to be dating Maya before prom. Since he was so in love with Maya, I would assume they were together for longer than two months, but this is Disney and love does tend to happen pretty quickly with them.
@BlueBlazeKing Жыл бұрын
It’s implied that season 3 takes place during their senior year. But I can see why the movie staff didn’t include Maya as she was a new addition to the cast and was only in 7 episodes mostly spilt between the beginning and end of the season.

I dunno, I remember enjoying the movie. I probably wouldn't feel the same if I revisited it but I'm happy to keep the memory positive. I think it might be that it aired around the time that I started getting more into Disney Channel than I had been.

10:00 he lied to Maya to get in her pants and now that Maya’s not around he doesn’t keep up the act. As for why he’s depressed when Maya breaks up with him is because he wants her, just not only her. Totally fits his character.

Think of how expensive the average month long cruise is and multiple by a dozen because not only are you paying for entertainment but you are also paying for education facility, equipment, and teachers. People like Bailey definitely had to apply through >50% scholarship because I cannot see her family affording a 3-4 year long semester on basically a 5 star cruise ship

16:12 Technically they did consent to the experiment by being part of the study. By my understanding, in experiments involving human beings, the researchers can keep some aspects of the study a secret as long as the lack of knowledge isn’t going to be harmful to the subjects. And I’m guessing the scientist kept the hypothesis about the fruit a secret to make sure what the twins were experiencing was genuine and not some sort of placebo effect.

Wait as second, I didn't realize it until the twin experiment thing but this is the only Zack and Cody thing I've ever seen because where I lived the network bought it and aired it as if it was it's own product and not a part of a larger franchise and I watched it at like midnight while half-asleep.

When I first saw this movie I didn't even realize that it was weird. I didn't connect it to the show I just watched it without the shows events. By itself I thought it was good, but it is sad that they didn't give much thought to the show or the long term effects of the movie.

Reading these comments a lot of people hated this movie as a kid including me. Which probably speaks for itself how hard do you have to mess up a movie to get hated on by kids that watch almost anything and enjoy it. It all just felt out of place and didn’t fit the zack and Cody vibe tbh.

Hmm… I believe the movie was timelined between s2 and 3 of “On deck”. Which is also weird considering Cody and Bailey’s break up at the end of s2, but still it would’ve explain why Maya wasn’t in the movie and why Zack acts as if he’s single. The car part is really strange, yeah.

They should made a movie focused on the reality counity in the series like Good luck Charlie did least it continues the plot and had an effect however the suit life movie had no effect on the actual plot that it was so bad it all feels out of place like the storyline could had focused on much more like the twins bonding.
