It's amazing to me that we can justify and accept all these environmental factors, physiological issues, mechanical damage as it relates to hair but minute people mention that applying heat to hair is damaging, everyone (especially stylists) contests and debates against heat damage being legitimate. Just like the sun and all the other issues she mentioned contribute to damage, so can heat. It's about being honest about the damage that you are exposing your hair to so that you can take the necessary precautions to mitigate or even prevent damage to your hair.

Hey Queen-Sister 🤗 As a preteen I stayed in the pool or at the beach during the Summer. I wore no swim cap 😳🫣 The Sun mixed with chlorine and/or saltwater turned my hair this crazy shade of brown…it was crunchy when it got dry. I was wearing an afro in those days. Your client mos def has beautiful hair. For her edges she should infuse some Rosemary(fresh/dry) with cloves and olive oil and massage those thinning areas for 10 minutes daily. Hopefully she will see results in a couple of weeks. My hair took off from a short cut to more hair than I have ever had.

Hi there. This is true imagine a sponge, if it has water in it it no longer absorbs. The hair shaft is the same, rinsing with water before going into the pool will keep it from absorbing the chlorine. A leave in does the same and adds a level of protection as well.

I haven't heard anyone else say that about restoring hair with a satin scarf to get the natural oils to travel down the shaft of the hair. I just thought it was to keep the hair from getting messed up while you are sleeping. Maybe there isn't a lot more to say about that but I'd be interested to know why that works. I might be compelled to wear one given that. Recently, I've been wearing my hair up loosely with a small jaw clip to sleep. I did try wearing a buff on my head a couple times, but I didn't really like the feeling of it. I usually wash every 3rd or 4th day but if I could go longer without getting greasy hair at my scalp, I'd probably rather do that to keep my hair healthier. I have wavy curly hair that I am learning to take care of better. Thank you!

I would get these light patches around my side parts and while we knew it was from being outside, I don't think we ever thought about protecting our hair to prevent it. I know some people used to intentionally lighten their hair this way... And I was relaxed back then. I can't say that's been as much of a thing since I've been natural. But I'm also more on top of protecting my skin (particularly my face while I'm trying to get rid of acne scars), so I'm more intentional about covering up when I'm in the sun... I'm talking wide brim straw hat kind of cover up. 🤣 As a note, I live in the country, garden, and do my own lawn maintenance, so the straw hat is pretty fitting. Hahaha
