I can tell you cotton is horrible for hair. I am surgical tech, the surgical caps has done a number on my hair. So i learned how to make the caps with satin lining and my hair has never been better. I trim every 6 months.

I made a terrible mistake of not trimming my hair after 4 months. My hair grew. However, the ends were terrible, so I had to cut at least 2 1/2 inches off. I've learned that my hair thrives when I trim every 6 weeks or 2 months. Im loving the videos and learning so much, so please keep posting them ❤❤

@nilawarriorprincess
@nilawarriorprincess 4 ай бұрын
Satin IS NOT A FABRIC. Satin is a way of weaving textiles. They not 'sneaking' polyester into satin the fabric IS polyester & the weave is satin. Also, polyester isn't inherently bad. It just means synthetic fibers. there are many polyester is just a blend of more than one polymer.There are hundreds if not thousands of different types of polyester. Some are very good at replicating silk while others replicate wool. Others replicate all forms of hair from 1b to 4c to teddy bears to faux fur. Polyester satin bonnets xan be fantastic for the hair, but it takes critical eye & fingers to chose which type of polyester fabric is most like silk & has the best weave. Feel the bonnet with your fingertips, rub your fingers left to right, up & down to see how smoothly your fingers glide across the fabric. Avoid thin fabric. You shouldn't be able to see any weaving lines or see-through the fabric in any way. Reversible, aka double lined bonnets are best because they offer the most protection. Look for a sheen. Good satin weaving is smooth & shiny. That's the name origin. Checklist •thick fabric •smooth texture • double lined ( both materials should a satin weave). • thick, shiny fabrics tend to be the best quality because that's the goal of a satin weaving. Tight weaving techniques produce the best satin. Which, in turn, locks in moisture. *I've sewn satin bonnets for myself & have studied fashion & textiles in college.

Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to hair, satin is actually the better material vs. silk. Silk is more absorbent & can absorb 30 percent of its weight in moisture! So if you’re trying to choose btwn the two, definitely go w/ satin. In regards to trimming, I’ve been trimming about 3-4x a year. But I’ve found that when my hair is at it’s absolute healthiest, I only need to trim about twice a year/once every 6 mos.

@@afisanaa Satin and polyester are two different fabrics. They sell satin that have polyester blends but as she said in the video, you have to be careful and read the materials/ingredients to make sure you’re purchasing true satin. Microplastics occur in polyester, as well as in many other fabrics. As long as you’re washing your hair faithfully, you’ll be fine.

I swear I wish you could do my hair lol. But I live in Houston and I’m disabled so traveling to get my hair done is a luxury I can’t afford both financially and physically. So I’m just gonna have to settle for watching you work your magic on YT. 😊😊😊 I JUST trimmed my hair yesterday. I took down my braids and my cousin came over to give me a hair spa day at home. She’s a kitchen beautician, but she’s naturally gifted at doing hair. She started at about 10, and she’s been doing our family’s hair every since. She did my braids too lol. But she gave me every treatment you can think of yesterday before she blow dried my hair and trimmed it. She then gave me mini twists for the next few months. She’ll do my braids again right before Thanksgiving. She has my hair almost waist length by helping me care for it now. I love that girl lol.

I love watching you style hair ❤ I think when it comes to satin you mixed up ‚material‘ and ‚fabric‘. Satin is a kind of fabric weave that can be made up of any material : silk, cotton , polyester , viscose , wool etc. If it’s cheap it for sure has polyester in it. A lot of satin pillow cases are a blend of cotton and polyester. Silk satin is super expensive. Microfiber is also polyester. Terry cloth is also a type of fabric that can be made of different materials.

I am very fortunate to rarely get split ends. When I color my hair I only deposit (to cover grays). I rarely blow out or press my hair, and most days I air dry, but ik do diffuse my hair dry as well. I use hair masks instead of conditioner, use non sulfate shampoos, I oil and steam my hair every now and then, and I also do protein treatments. I sleep on a satin pillowcase as well with my hair up in a pineapple. I think I'm just lucky though, because even when I did more heat styling and used regular conditioners I only ever got split ends if I lightened my hair, and even then not that many.

Hey Lady, May I ask what is your suggestion when you need to trim but, have the middle a little less hair than the other sides? Like your client hair. I have cut heavy just to give my middle section some fight back. However, now that it’s growing back since my last 3 month heavy cut, I’m slightly seeing it happen again. I don’t want to do a heavy cut again tho! Lol 😆 So, maybe I was thinking should I just continue to let it grow as long as it could? Then a heavy cut.

I last trimmed my hair in July and try to keep it on a 3-4 month schedule, so 3 or 4 times a year at regular intervals. I'd probably do it more often if I lived nearer to my stylist, but I try to take care of my ends in between trims so I don't have to lose too much length

I learned this from sewing so maybe it’s different, but I thought satin was a particular weave that’s really smooth? So you could have satin fabric made out of silk, cotton, nylon, polyester, rayon, etc. is there a specific one you’re thinking about for hair?

I actually just cut mine like a week ago. I usually like to trim every 8-12 weeks, though. I live in FL, and I've been constantly wearing buns, so I just felt like I needed a cut, and I didn't want to wait till I got to my stylist. 💜

FYI: Silk is a fiber. Satin is a fabric. Satin can be made from silk. Satin can be made from polyester also.

another hair instructor (linwood, can't remember the channel name) suggested putting a bonnet on your car's headrest. So your hair isn't rubbing against it. I never thought of that. i"m gonna have to line my winter hats w/ an old bonnet

I get really bad migraines and will lay on an ice pack for the pain, so i throw a bonnet or scarf around the ice pack. That way my hair isn't rubbing but i also don't have any extra tension on my poor head. You can wrap pretty much ANYTHING with an old bonnet hahaha

I like a trim/cut every three to four months, but I do a light dusting in between. I am currently dusting them and will get a professional trim next month.

I trim my hair more often now because with aging it’s thinning and I need to appear thicker. I do it myself. I don’t go to salons anymore and when I did take the last appt. I became very modest about my hair loss😔 Miss my old hair… Was a major adjustment.

Is is ok to get a trim every 6 months? What do you prefer

Love your channel! I go get a blow out every two months, trim every 4mos. My question is what can I do to stop the frizz, it’s almost pointless to get my hair curled after a blowout and then if I comb one curl whether frizzy or not… it’s done 😢…so basically my hair does not hold curls and frizzes up badly.

I last trimmed back in May, before that I hadn’t done anything since I cut my hair off back in November. I want to trim again, but I know braiders hate braiding blunt ends.

Every time I detangle, I look at my shed hairs and see what percentage have splits. Once it's more than 30% I trim. That is usually about every 8 months. I'm at 8 months right now but I'm in braids so I will likely trim at next take down. I search and destroy between trims every 2 weeks after wash day when not in a protective style.

Good morning! Are you getting new shears soon? I wanted a different color than the gold one. Am I able to dust my ends on wet hair with these?

I did mine yesterday. One year and a half ago my hair was coming out even if I touched it. Al in the shower. After Dr check my vitamin D and b , He realized my vitamin D and vitamin B was excessively low. After taking my vitamin D & vitamin b complex, my hair grew back quickly I blow-dried it cut the ends. After washing and deep conditioning adding my products, my curls looked better. I still just put it in two big plats 😂

Also, now that it is getting cooler you should be mindful of your hair rubbing against your winter coats and sweaters. I experienced breakage in my back kitchen area and I couldn't figure out why. When I started wear hats with silk lining it stopped. happening.
