"Fire and Blood" The secret is right there in their words. We saw Daenerys do it. A raging funeral pyre (fire) and three offerings of flesh (blood) hatched three dragons. The Targaryen's probably burned criminals alive on Dragonstone and in the Pit to hatch them until the method was lost or forgotten thanks to the Dragonbane.

The only reason Dany truly needed fire and blood was because the eggs she was given were petrified. She literally had to put life back into them and as Mirri Maz Duur taught her, only death can pay for life. Back on Dragonstone the eggs were fresh and already had life in them, Targaryens would typically place the egg in the crib of the baby they were meant to be bonded to so that they could exchange each other's strength to hatch.

So Dragon hatching and taming/riding in the SOIAF series is actually linked to a special mutation in the female X chromosome. As in, having the special X* chromosome as a boy (X*,Y) or a girl (X*,X) or (X*,X*) (Can have one or both X chromosomes mutated) means your a dragonrider and can bond with a dragon if it's willing to bond with you. Now hatching dragons is different in that you MUST have both X chromosomes be mutated, special, dragonrider X* chromosomes. So only females (and only certain ones i.e Danny) can hatch dragons (they just have to be around them) and to ride one you must have inherited one of those X* . This is why Targaryans inbread a lot. In the story Pycelle tells he does the snarky "idk how simple shepherds managed this, but 🤷🏽‍♀️" just my guess on how it played out. Grrm does historical callbacks or echos frequently to help us figure things out. If one girl got the idea to feed them sheep, I can't imagine the OG shepherds wouldn't try the same thing - especially if those buggery flying lizards kept making roast mutton out of their livelihoods 😂

Nettles is a dragonseed, you don't need to have Valyrian features to be to Valyrian. We literally see this with Jon and other Targaryens as a result of a Dornish mother like with Rhaenys.

Also, that excuse about them needing to correctly guess Jon’s parentage in order to start the show doesn’t cut it for me, the first season came out before A Dance with Dragons was published, so when they had to guess D&D had less information than we do at present, so I find it less likely that they could correctly solve the mystery.

Why were there no dragon masters in any of the free-cities pre-fall is beyond me, but I'm gonna guess it's just for the sake of the narrative. Realistically, with so much territory to control and cover, there should have been dragonlords elsewhere outside just Valyria.

I honestly don't think they needed spells to tame dragons as nettles shows us but instead those 40 families were the first to figure it out and stopped everyone else from even trying. Over the centuries they came up with dramatic stories to reinforce that fact as to make everyone believe that they couldn't tame dragons even if they tried and with them holding a monopoly on dragon eggs it's not that hard to enforce

The celtigars don't have the dragonlord blood so they wouldn't have been able to use the eggs for anything anyways. The Velaryons did have a few marriages to the Targaryens and there were quite a few velaryon dragon riders as well so they wouldn't really need to finesse an egg.

If they had tried to seduce one of the many Targaryen princes walking around I'm sure they could've had atleast one dragonseed from it.

In the books during their descriptions of the conquest it says that Balerion is the last dragon born in Valyria. This implies that the other 4 dragons they brought with them died sometime in the 114 years between arriving at dragon stone and the conquest. The other two Rhaenys and Vinsenya's dragons then have to be hatched after arriving to dragon stone. There were only 17 ish dragons with riders and 3-4 without during the dance of dragons.

The only other mentioned Dragonlord survivor was Aurion. And while yes, his dragon survived too, they didn't survive long when the people rose up against them. I don't think his dragon was named too

Here is my theory regarding “Game of Thrones” and “ House of the Dragon.” Dragons were made with magic, through the God of Light, for the specific purpose of protecting the Seven Realms during the Long Winter and man from the Night King. But then, when the Targaryans used the Dragons for their own selfish reasons, to take control and hold the Iron Throne, the magic “stopped working” and the Dragons who would be of use during what would be the time known as “The Song of Ice and Fire,” started to be killed during the Civil War known as “The Dance of Fire & Blood”. And shortly thereafter, the Dragons born later never made it to maturity, and therefore were useless in the fight against Man’s true enemy North of the Wall. Notice in both series, the only magic that ever works is that of the believers of the Lord of Light; we have Jon Snow’s resurrection, Beric Dondarrion’s muliple resurrections, the shadow demon that killed Renly Baratheon, the magic Arya is taught to become a Faceless Man and so forth. No one who believes in The Seven or The Old Gods uses magic that works. So then, only when all the Dragons have died off, and a Targaryan who was born who was worthy of the Iron Throne, who could lead Man in a war against the Wights and the Night King, three dragons were born. The Iron Throne was never to be Danearys Targaryan’s, from the very beginning, Jon Snow was supposed to be king of the seven kingdoms and destroy the Night King and the Army of the Dead, or at least lead Man in doing so. My theory is also why the Greens don’t win the Dance of Dragons. King Vicerys never tells the purpose of Targaryans sitting on the Iron Throne to Alicent of any of their sons: he only passes on that knowledge to his heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen. I think part of the reason the Dragons shrink and die off after the Dance with Dragons is because she doesn’t pass on that knowledge and mission to her heir. I also think that is why the Targaryen’s and Valeryon’s first home was destroyed in the “Doom of Valyria.” Man forgot and stopped following their one true God, the Lord of Light, and started following “fake gods,” and that angered the Lord of Light. He destroyed Valyria by fire from the volcanos that the Valyrian Freehold were built on and around. But before doing so, the Lord of Light came to Daenys Targaryen in a powerful prophetic dream, showing the destruction of Valyria by fire, which she passed to her father, Aenar, who then moved the entire family, who were still followers of the Lord of Light, to Dragonstone with their five Dragons. Daenys would then give birth to Aegon, whose father was also a son of Aenar, the first Targaryen born in Westeros, who is also the the grandfather of the grandfather to Aegon I Targaryen (Aegon the Conqueror), who along with his two dragon rider sister wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, would conquer and then unite the Seven Kingdoms, becoming the First King of Westeros. Aegon I fought to unite Westeros, because just like his grandfather’s grandmother saw the end of Valyria, Aegon I saw the end of the world of man through a prophetic dream, a dream which he called “A Song of Ice and Fire.” What builds credibility to my theory about the Lord of Light and the Dragons being made to fight against the Army of the Dead during the Long Winter, is because we know the ending already! We know because of Daenys and the Doom of Valyria that Targaryen prophecies come true. We know that a Targaryen returns to Westeros with three dragons who are critical in their fight against the White Walkers. We also know that another Targaryen (named Aegon [Jon Snow]) and his “sister,” Arya does the saving. And what happens when the war against the dead is over? The Targaryen who brought back dragons is immediately killed by another Targaryen because, she wants to use the remaining dragon for another purpose outside of what it was brought back by the Lord of Light for.

I like to think that the way to become bonded to a dragon was that like dany walked into the fire to rebirth them into the world they were born in a similar way one man showed he was willing to bond with his dragon by burning himself in flames but it's not just that he maybe had blood in him like how the north had the blood of the first men or maybe they were demigods cause we know their gods were different and there is some evidence to suggest god do exist in the world of ice and fire.

Blood magic, other spells, special cross species breeding, selective breeding ,and traditional animal breaking methods I think is just about everything. Maybe early just one of those methods were used but over time a combination would be more effective. In my opinion.

When is any video (not just on this channel) going to acknowledge that the dragons had saddles in the books and the riders were chained to the saddles, they weren't ridden bareback as per the show/contrary to any common sense. This detail is small but important, and will become more so when it comes to the Dance of Dragons as it was the determining factor in several fight/surviving (or not) crashes.

There's suspension of reality for a force we don't know about (magic and for animals that we haven't discovered/don't live on Earth (dragons), and there's basic bitch stuff like physics that is more important than everything else. In the Dance of Dragons there are several instances where being fastened into a saddle or not either saved or killed the dragon rider in the books. If they want to say there's a magic spell that holds them on the dragon fine, or that Targaryens have extra sticky crotches then fair enough but just pretending that someone could hold onto a couple of backward facing spikes and with their thighs is where i've, got to draw the line! lol

I just think that if we try to incorporate physics (a real thing), no matter how minimal; will always lead to being overly critical about an art form who's original intention was to be more fantastical than real. Like it or not, the more you lean into magic, the further you have to separate yourself from the rules of the real world. Otherwise the reader/viewer will just be taken out of the story. I think the bond between rider and dragon is meant to be more magical, so while the other dragon see her a mother it might not be enough to actually be able to ride them

I brought nettle’s up, when those weirdos, was making a big deal that the sea snake Corlys Velaryon was cast a black man. Like folks didn’t bone, it’s a fantasy story, all you have to imagine is his descendants smashing a black or light skinned Spanish type or whatever.
