Zach Kornfeld cut his teeth making viral videos for ‪@BuzzFeedVideo‬ as part of the comedy group ‪@tryguys‬. But The Try Guys left Buzzfeed in 2018 to start their own company.
In this episode, Zach sits down with host Jack Conte to watch the first 1 minute 15 seconds of an episode from Zach's cult classic series Candid Competition. They discuss how Zach meticulously structures the intro to hook the audience, when he sticks to the rules of KZbin and when he breaks them, and why going viral is no longer his goal.

Watching Zach speak so passionately about the production and postproduction of videos really makes me hope that one day he can direct a feature film. He really knows the craft

I thought this would be about the *Fan Fiction* when they said it's about sandwiches!! I've learned so much about the Try Guys' content making process from this interview, Keith & Zach interview on Colin and Samir, YB's editing videos, YB's interview on The Editing Podcast and Rachel talking about W.A.R. and Phoning It In on YCSWU. There is so much hard work that goes into their videos. They are lucky to have such a great team!!

As a film student, this is actually a master class broken down beautifully for simple understanding- I love how Zachs brain works: so intricate and textbook but put into such simple goofy vids I love it, and I can REALLY see it as a student of film myself

This is amazing. I know the guys are always talking about their editing and just how amazing it is, but as someone so far removed from this world, I never really truly absorbed that. This is the best display of how talented the guys and their editors and even their entire team are to make their videos. The thought and care that goes into “stupid” videos is incredible.

it's rather fascinating how much detail goes into it all just to make it more "palatable," to keep everyone engaged. and the musicality! it's really art. this is a great video!

He he. Anal Proclivity I love that Zach both takes himself very seriously but not the least bit serious at the same time! I personally think this is the charm of the Try Guys over all! The recognition of the absurdity of their jobs while having a passion for the craft!

This was an incredibly good conversation and video! I've been a big Try Guys (and Zach) fan for a long time, and I've heard some of these anecdotes about his work and process before, but this was a much deeper dive and candid (lol) look behind the scenes. Super cool. I've also been following Jack's music for a long time too but didn't know this channel existed! Can't wait to go back and watch the old videos, lots of really interesting looking ones.

Zach has become my favorite try guy because of all this he talks about. He has a passion and he is self aware that his talents are wasted in KZbin but still creates meaning and incredible videos using all of his resources and bringing people together to make chaotic yet extremely well organized productions. Bravo! The King Zach!

Jack, I don’t think it’s necessarily insecurity or need of validation to want people to know the work you put in. It could be that you have a need to be fully seen or fully understood. Or maybe it’s a mix of both! I think the point of this video demonstrates that… that the details are what make things great and pointing them out makes most people appreciate the art and craft that much more.

Viral really is about the spread, not the views. To be viral, something needs to inspire you to share it with virtually everyone you know. But viral doesn't translate to loyalty to the creator. Popular is a better term for high views of content that isn't viral.
