While ignorance is an issue facing many people within communities. This is primarily due to the lack of exposure to a diverse group of people. It's arguably what establishes bias - limited experiences and stereotypes. An arguably more progressive approach to combat this lack of awareness is to create better bridges between communities. You mentioned this in your second point about the university holding a Black and Caribbean event - that sounds like an excellent idea, even better would be to have multicultural event to share awareness of other diverse groups of people. However, conscious bias is an unproductive idea, it's basically trying to fight a ghost. You then also say unconscious bias training, this is like fighting a ghost of a ghost. It's unconscious because we don't even know it's there. While HR departments in companies typically force their employees to complete scenario based questionnaires on diversity and stereotypes you can typically skip the scenario and use common sense to answer them. They rarely stick on one's mind let alone change it.

Thank you for your reply! I definitely believe that it is important to understand different cultures. I also believe that focus is important for knowledge so there should be a focus on gaining knowledge about the transatlantic slave trade. This sort of focus can be applied to other cultures but again my real focus with this video is the Afro-Caribbean community especially in light of what is happening in the world today. In regards to unconscious bias training, you are totally right that sometimes people engage in this training but it doesn't change their outlook. Nonetheless, it does have an impact and can have an even greater impact if created thoughtfully. Again, thank you for your response and you have given me more things so think about and consider!
