The Department of Defense has a budget of $817 billion for fiscal year 2023. More than $44 billion of that is dedicated to adding new warplanes to its fleet, with additional funds going to maintenance, training, and fuel for aircraft like the A-10 Thunderbolt II, MV-22 Osprey, C-17, F-35B Lightning II, and the AC-130J Ghostrider. Each aircraft is built to execute a wide variety of missions like close air support, transporting troops and cargo, and conducting humanitarian missions.

This video was a series of previous videos combined into one. But even then, goes to show how much work is put into things like maintaining aircraft, creating new aircraft, training future pilots and carrying out exercises to prepare for a real life combat situation. Much respect to all those serving in the military for their hard work and commitment to protecting their country and allies abroad.

Former machinist here. There's a lot more work in making those wierd and precisely shaped airplane parts than you think because you can't weld or cast aluminum. You have to start with a block of metal and cut it down until you get the part. Most of the material goes in the recycle and robot cutting machines do most of the work but it might take a semi-skilled worker all day to make 100 VERY SIMPLE parts while the bigger structural parts we did often took three guys all day to make a couple dozen. This is why airplanes are so expensive.

That's like saying the Commodore 64 computers from decades ago are old, let's build new ones. No you don't just build the same outdated airframe. It was built for different needs with tech that is no longer relevant. A-10 was never really that good at CAS anyway. It killed more of our own guys that any other plane. Time to retire for the F35 because the F35 is so versatile it can easily handle it and the enemy will never even ever see it.

The F-35B is the most essential component of our broader strategy in securing the pacific. A stealth fighter, fleet defense and strike fighter, deployable from a network of many tiny, faster ships is the only viable naval aviation deployment strategy moving forward. Super carriers are too large and vulnerable to sail within 400 miles of China ground-based anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles, in wartime. These ships can sail closer and can spread the power over larger areas. They are smaller, cheaper, harder to track, and as a distributed system, if one leaves for repair, you don’t lose an entire limb of our forces… The carrier can act as the center of the hive, of the distributed system. Moreover, carriers can then shift their operations to larger, heavier aircraft for long-range strike, interdiction, surveillance. AEWACs, refueling, logistics, etc,,,,

This is a dumb question, but if the age of the A10 is an issue, can't they just make new A10 aircrafts? I agree close-air support is a key asset the plane provides that the F35 isn't really designed for.

@johnjingleheimersmith9259
@johnjingleheimersmith9259 10 ай бұрын
@@viking5736 not only that, but the entire designs are outdated. Today stealth and range rules. You can't just get up close to enemy when they all have shoulder fired AA missiles. The F35 can do the A-10s job from so far away that the enemy never even spots it visually, and especially when you consider the stealth radar capabilities imbued into it. Just because Model Ts were good for their time, doesn't mean we should build modern Model Ts.

@@Milo-id9qd Sure but the whole idea is debatable from the inception. The best stats the military could put up show how inaccurate the gun was AND THAT WAS UNDER PERFECT, THEORETICAL CONDITIONS. The only saving grace for the A10 was the ability to upgrade it's weapon loadout through the decades and those situations were non-near-peer.

🤯🇺🇸💰 The comparison of the US Marine Corps to the entire UK Air Force, Army, and Navy combined is certainly striking. It highlights the vast difference in military capabilities and resources between the two countries. This comment raises questions about defense spending and the allocation of resources. It also sparks curiosity about the strategic considerations and priorities of each nation. The comparison invites further exploration into the dynamics of global military power and the impact it has on international relations.

The US spends about 3.4% of GDP on it's military the UK currently spends about 2.2% of GDP! In Europe only Greece, Latvia and Croatia spend more GDP as a % on defence than the UK. As a total spent the UK spends more than ANY country in Western or Central Europe at $68.5 Billion the UK is committed to defence spending but it simply cannot compete with the 900 Billion the US spend also the economy of scale means the US also gets more bang for it's buck because it orders in 100s and 1000s not 10s and 100s.

In this vid some of the guys were saying that the hardest part about flying the f35 is absorbing all the information like where to look and what to do as different situations arise and what instruments to monitor etc. A really good gamer should be able to absorb multitudes of information relatively easily lol, the f35 simulator is basically a rlly good life like video game lol. So if you want to be a fighter pilot in the future, get yourself or your kid an Xbox like the one I built in my thumbnail😊. The military or the government need to Stop phasing out all the other aircraft for the F35 it's going to create problems in the future and cost a lot more. I can understand phasing some aircraft out but they are phasing out way too many tried and true aircraft. IDC how good the f35 is. Everyone always says it's the best plane they've ever flown(almost like they were coached into saying that) but it never needs to get close enough to dogfight so go figure. I could go on all day about reasons to Not phase out other aircraft simply because they think the f35 will be able to do everything those aircraft can better. Guess what we have the f35 now, o ok so were good to phase out the c5 and the b2 then 😆.

By being corrupt, that’s how. Slash the defense budget by 50% and actually invest in working families.

I understand the original design of the F22 had insane capabilities but it made the plane too expensive. I want one of those, too expensive, F22s

A10 is the most overrated airframe out there. Killed more blues than any other plane, and constantly needs to be updated because it can't do the job it was designed for anymore.

We're looking at Ukraine's war against Russia; it's true that A-10s will not survive in a battle of attrition, modern battlefield. Only planes with stealth abilities can survive the modern battlefield.

The c-17 is Just Way To huge, Way WAY to costly For sure , We really do not need them. Need More tanks and more Ammo for close combat in country NOT OUT of Country. We really NEED to Stop all this Tending to Other countries , That do not want us there to Start with.

A10 is definitely better. It's economical, reliable, can loiter better, and is beefier than the F35. Or we can just spend more money as usual for something we still need to develop.
