The VA had a program for families caring for elderly vets where they'd take them for 2 weeks to give the family a break. My dad a WWII combat vet walked in able to dress, feed and bathe himself. They strapped him down and stuck a feeding tube down his throat the wrong way then proceeded to slowly drown him over 2 days. They then spent 3 days suctioning the fluid out of his lungs. 6 days in and he was dead. No one was ever punished or even named responsible for the improperly inserted feeding tube. They wouldn't even speak to us. Just a call to come pickup his body.

@tonyrmathis so sorry for your loss brother! I can attest to how horrible the VA is from both sides. Botched surgeries(for me) and then being a paramedic watching them almost kill a patient, I got to the point that I refused to take anyone to the VA! Of course, our numerous complaints went nowhere. Luckily, I could “document” their issue as “emergent” meaning the most appropriate facility to which we have a level 1 trauma center. No bills for our vets(being many vet’s insurance only covered care at the VA) and they actually get the care/treatment they need!

I find it very commendable how he spoke about the R&D that America does in healthcare & how we teqch others how to handle certain injuries, etc. That kind of innovation doesn't happen in socialized health systems. You also sign over autonomy for your care & that of minor dependents to the government. You lose the choice.
@noodlelynoodle.2 ай бұрын
@@lucycarlisle9120you don't lose the choice, you can still go to private clinics places that have government provided healthcare and at least people would actually be able to afford their healthcare instead of spending the same amount on insurance but never being able to use it cause it's still thousands of dollars for anything even after insurance. Like government provided healthcare would be cheaper for everyone involved, the insurance companies who got us into this mess would be the only ones getting screwed over

@@noodlelynoodle. Except that the government run ones get run BADLY and the private ones.... well just like Public School in Australia many tight asses would rather not spend the money they CAN spare on private and instead expect the taxpayers to foot the bill. I completely empathize with your VA horror story. Here's mine: April of 2022 I herniated my L5-S1 disc, hitting my sciatic nerve root sending lightning down my legs and intense lower back pain. It's been 31 months. I've done everything from chiropractic care, dry needling, tens unit, electro therapy, physical therapy (x3), injections, you name it I've done it. I've been begging for a lamenectomy/discectomy or even just a spinal cord stimulator. The VA says I'm not a candidate for surgery. I've begged neurosurgery so much they finally sent me a message saying that I have to contact mental health to learn how to "cope" with understanding that this is just how I have to live now, and there's nothing they can do to make anything better. Essentially, they've given up on me but they also refuse to let me go out to community care to let anyone else help me. I haven't been able to work, I can barely walk, sleep is a joke, and my whole existence is pain. The barrel of my pistol has rust on it because I have had it pressed to my head or in my mouth so much over these 31 months because of this horrific and indescribable pain. I've contacted Congresswoman Spartz, governors, senators, white house helpline, regional director of the VA, everyone... even contacted 3 of my local news stations and they don't give a fuck either. There are a lot more details to my story, but that's the jist of it. Fuck the VA, I hope the neurosurgeons and most of the worthless pieces of shit I've had interactions with at the Indianapolis Roudebush VA Medical Center get ass cancer. I don't how much more I can take. I'm sorry for your VA struggles and I just wanted to put mine out there too that your story isn't a one-off and that it is the status quo unfortunately. I hope things get better for you, brother. S/F.

Bro ought to get into buhurt. He doesn't have to worry about hurting anybody if everybody's already got armor on.

So, he's a literal international arms dealer.

yea, same with my dad, a 'nam vet. one day when we were looking at his high school yearbook, he pointed out a bunch of his classmates who were KIA'd....that's when I understood why he never really talked about the war.

Imagine if government officials and VA employees were forced to get their healthcare through the VA, I have a funny feeling things would start to drastically improve.

Literally at the VA in Battle Creek MI working on my PTSD at the moment and DAAAAAM!!! Brandon's comment on the how the VA uses American's money. He hit the nail on the head! Most of the employees hearts are truly in their work. It shows but if I wanted to do T therapy being 41 hearing all the success with other veterans with low T with PTSD I can't get them to even consider it but if I identified as a whatever the normanclature is now and tuck my frank. Boom here's your estrogen. Crazy. Love what you guys do and thank you to my OD Green brothers

My Brother in Law is a Vietnam vet. He won't talk about his time there at all. He has a pretty good handle on the PTSD, but it's still there.

It must be tough for a veteran like Brandon… he has never talked about the things he went through. Seriously though God bless our vets!!

My Great Grandpa (yes, Great Grandpa) served in Vietnam in the 1st Infantry Division. He saw his draft number was coming up so figured he'd get ahead of the curb and be an MP. As an MP however, he got into some trouble involving the bottle. So he was sent in as a Machine Gunner. All we know, because he seldom talked about it, is that he was infil'd via Huey and saw more than his fair share of combat. He lost friends. Papa Lee as we called him, or Richard Hagen, came back home and lived a full life. It was mostly a happy life, but the war haunted him till his grave. Rest in Peace, Papa Lee.

Speaking of Mexican dad's. My father was in the middle of a heart attack and drove himself to the ER. Ended up getting a quadruple bypass

I can attest to random people trying you. I used to be a bouncer and even though I'm in a wheelchair it doesnt matter. People still try

My grandma did the exact same shit. 25 minute drive to the ER at 03:00. We were all less than impressed

@lonelyovaries that sucks, the feeling of "are they ok?" Or "did the make it there sucks

Served and deployed witb 3/5 as well. Nothing nearly as wild as Sangin, but to be a psrt of a group that has a lineage like this Marine and others like Eugene Sledge was very cool
