My grandfather was with the 10th Mountain in WWII. He earned a silver star and a purple heart clearing an SS mortar position in Italy. He had a BAR, ran out of mags, used his sidearm, ran out again, and used his E-tool to finish off last man who shot him in the shoulder (hence the purple heart). Our family found the SS helmet cracked nearly in half after he passed, which he kept all those years.

I got stuck by a dirty needle on accident because some landscapers just put new bark over a bunch of homeless trash, a needle poked me through my glove as I wiped the lower glass stop off the storefront we were reglazing. Urgent Care saw the needle and sent me to ER who had to run all these tests. So many blood tests, and two months of two different HIV meds as a precaution, it made me feel so horrible, both gave me all the worst symptoms. Just a pro tip from almost 2 decades of being a mechanic. Take the center nut off of the strut before removing anything with the car on the ground. Then when you jack up the car the spring slowly uncompresses and all you have to do is slowly lower it back together and line the new strut rod back through the strut top hat. Done it like this forever because it's faster and safer than using the "snap-on" or in our case OTC strut tamer

I was born in Kentucky, came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. I have lived long enough to see them out a man on the moon and watch multiple space shuttle launches. I hope you get to see a much in your life, as I've seen in mine. Edit: it was supposed to be GREAT grandfather, but he was the heart of the family too.

@SynchronizorVideos9 күн бұрын
Thank you! I hate when people bring up the space pen as an example of government overspending, because it’s actually an excellent case of the exact opposite. A private entity saw a need, did the science and engineering to develop a product that would solve the problem, and then sold it to the government (both NASA and the USSR in fact) for a totally fair price. NASA bought those pens for less than $3 each.

Somewhere my family friends have his signed copy of We Were Soldiers Once, and Young. He had notes written in the margins and you could see where he'd cried a bit, and tears warped the pages. weirdly powerful to see that. And by the way, this man survived all that only to have a heart attack and drop dead back home some fifty years later.
@texasranger24Ай бұрын
The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is - whichever is greater - it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information that the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa. And by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
@RonniePTexanАй бұрын
But isn't the "place where it isn't" an infinite thing? I'm not on Mars or the moon, but that information doesn't help me know what street that I am on.

Isn't that the vehicle that keeps setting itself on fire?
@devilin100Ай бұрын
@@lars7747 That not a problem I've known of them to have. The barrels at the end of its service life, before being replaced by the Tunguska and TOR system now it just serves with the naval infantry/marines, were known to give up the ghost and explode under pressure from firing. Some of those engines might be 50 years old so who knows. They were prone to "run away gun", where the barrel heat cooks of the rounds and cycles the action loading another round which also cooks off. They don't carry that much ammo, which is why they weren't supposed to be used on ground targets. And they come in 50 round belts in "blow out panel at home.
@lars7747Ай бұрын
@devilin100 yeah them cooking off their own ammo is what I've seen a lot from middle eastern shilkas,

27:26 I'm a track mechanic and those torsion bars aren't just a piece of metal across the hull. They are pre-stressed, which means when they snap they tend to do so pretty violently. It's common practice in tracked vehicles to wrap a new torsion bar in a few layers of electrical or duct tape so when it snaps you don't run the risk of slicing your hand apart when pulling it out, cause a snapped torsion bar is *sharp*

IIFS is the massive ruck Habitual Linecrosser is talking about, they were the replacement to the ALICE Medium rucksack and were essentially capable of carrying an entire person on your back. It's hard to imagine the pain of carrying your entire bodyweight on your back for upwards of days on end.

I've read that the "Space Pen" thing is actually a load of crap. Yes we spent to much to develop the pen, but the pencil was actually detrimental because the graphite debris from a pencil can get into places you don't want it to when you are in zero g. EDIT: DAMN IT SHOULDN'T HAVE PAUSED THE VIDEO TO SAY THAT

The thing that got me about Posty was he was on the MTG channel Game Knights. He was acting like you'd expect in the interviews and being crazy. But at the table, he was so respectful. Thank you, your turn sir, thank you ma'am. The very image of class. Then he'd dab.

You were talking about missles? I can remember at Frt Sill, live fire of the “Honest John” when I as a kid in the late 60’s. I think it was a short to med range surface to surface missle. It was a screeeecher! Dad was ADA then did 2 tours in Nam. When I was in it was as a 91-bang bang….

Large ruc as a civilian is one of the most amazing things I've ever come across I did have to set it on a table to pack it and then put it on but I brought all of my camping stuff for 5 days on the top of a mountain for a festival and the workers were so tired of holding up the line digging through my bag that they didn't even get to the bottom to find the 10 bottles of liquor that I wasn't supposed to be bringing in XD

34:26 That sounds like a ZSU-23-4 or 'Shilka', they are made off of the PT-76 chassis which are already super thin, pair that with being backline mobile AA units, Russian doctrine never needed the armor that the Linebacker has, on top of being made in the 60's when everything had less armor.
