I totally agree I was with a bunch of a new neighbors who kept complaining about their husband or in-laws. Even I was about to get into that circle but escaped. This is true and that’s exactly what our kids go through too. We need to help them.

Dear Sain & Vinodh - Another excellent topic! One word "Sandwiched" - meaning, our generation, who have moved out of India, are "sandwiched" between our parents generation and our children generation. The reality is - we, our generation can never please both our parents and our children - all at the same time. We need to balance both. We can do this "balancing" for a while.... However, as our children mature (especially when they head out to college and start living on their own), we need to pick a side - who are we going to please - our parents or our children? Chances are high that we will almost always lean more towards our children, as that's the nature. For the last 3 decades that we have been living here, we have mostly come across (with Asian/Indian friends circle) that more than 95% of our generation have always supported or sided with our children (more than our parents). We have experienced this with our child and I hope and pray that there should be NO more bad or any other negative sudden surprise that our child will bring to us that we will not be able to handle. You guys are great parents. Not to worry. Our children somehow learn that we are balancing (dancing) between our parents and them😀. They don't tell us that they know, but we know that they know😀. Once again, this is an interesting topic. As always, keep up the good work. Would love to meet you guys in person, when we visit CA🥰

Even Bush Jr’s parents used to live separately until they died. It’s not they don’t love their parents but dependency is worse. I always will appreciate a parent who is not dependent all the time. Limited dependency is ok but don’t think life is done if children don’t care for parent’s everyday 😊

I m. male and watch this channel as I can relate as a Dad. Only one suggestion is to support Bachelor education if you can afford, Student loans are expensive and they start with the a handicap, I am not asking to spend it on ivy but give whatever u can afford now, that way the savings and compounding will build faster wealth for them. Again after prioritizing your retirement only .. many white friends recommended this as they had to start everything late, we are not gonna take all the money to grave so giving some for education is better.

You got it completely wrong. American India kids compared to american kids are relatovely successful. On STEM fields, go to better colleges.. You can read the stats. American Indians also are the top 10 percentile earners in the US.

Awesome topic Sain much needed for abroad living parents and teens also good that Vinodh added mom as well her opinion also matters a lot they are lively seeing our day to day struggle. This current generation gaps and needs are explained by you so well and I accept this gen gap of course. Inga pre planning pannalana we are out of the sync 😢. Hard to digest some facts but this is the reality. Happy that our kids being a girl or boy know how to survive here and they are open to do any decent job 👍. The example you gave for allow him to fail is what I also follow just offing my pongals 😂 Keep going dear!! Namaskarams to Amma 🙏she just resembles my Nainamma 😍

You are correct. We are in NJ. I paid 100% for my elder son's BS. For MS, he applied loan $100K and he moved to UNC, NC. My younger son does not want to spend more money for BS, so he is starting in Community college. He is working part time and paying for his Community college. If I ask them about my properties and money in India, they are asking us to use it to enjoy our life.

Meaning they will not look after you duirng oldage.. Eorking as a geriatric Physician I have seen the worst with the current generation. So watcg out. If they say they dont want your assets then they are directly telling you dont expect them at end of life.

@@lakshganesh4776 Yes Man, you are 100% correct. I have crores of farm land and properties in India, they do not want it. Looks like, they want to be alone. I am not expecting them to take care of me or my wife, but we may like to spend our time with our Grand Children - right?. We know our future 😒. We may need to go back to India (because we can not handle the expenses in USA without salary income) and get our seats in Old-age orphanage. Only hope is my younger son as of now, he looks little bit of promising to take care of us, but I do not know his income to take care of us 😀. Anyway, we should not grow our expectation, I think

Lovely topic and discussion. Could relate to everything said about kids attitude and setting right expectations for them and us. Sailing in the same boat with a college going son. We pretty much have the same mindset. But We have promised to pay for his college, didn’t go with loan option after careful consideration , we said consider this as a loan from us so he can focus on his studies and not stress about repaying loan. Then he will be on his own and we will save for our retirement 🙂 Enjoyed the discussion thoroughly and couldnt agree more on the kidneys 😂

It is quite concerning about this attitude of the current generation. I disagree with your mom that they will be alright. They will not be alright. I am a physicisn who treats elderly patients. It is quite tragic to see the lack of emotion. Then the kids become old...the same karmic cycle continues.i think we are all in the US from india as we did not say no.our kids if they were in India with the same attitude wouldnt have been able to come to the US. I feel proud of the hardships i went through. I am trying to tell my 11 yr old some stories to make him motivated, not sure how he will turn out. It is really hard to parent desi kids in America.

Do you have to compromise for cost of living? or rush hour traffic?
