Justin Mares is the founder and CEO of Kettle and Fire, the fastest-growing bone broth brand in the country.
Justin validated the idea for Kettle and Fire in just 2 weeks and for less than $100, and within 10 months of starting his business, he was making 7 figures in sales.
Today his company has raised over $20M, and you can find their products all over the US in stores like Whole Foods and Sprouts.

Great discussion, and a lot of key takeaways! I think the biggest one is basically to sell before you build. I also do agree the validation period is so so important.

This is a really good one. Dealing with retail chain stores can be challenging. Been dealing with beverage space on and off for years, a very competitive space. The question of what's next energy drinks was one of the last big ones, flavored sparkling water has been up and coming. CBD was going good till most chains not picking it up just yet, direct sales have difficulties like credit card processing, limited with running ads, limited to selling on your own website vs Amazon as an option. So been feeling like nootropic drinks are up and coming, not sure the next big thing like the energy drink category was but it's like a leg off of it.

Did he write and/or is there a book that outlines his process? The three key points that I would love to learn more on are product validation process, process to build an initial customer base and growing the customer base. Because, more than the idea, the process and it’s execution is what made the whole thing successful..

This video and the content on this channel (I've only watched three videos so far and am now binging) is so damn good! My brain is storming again and I love the feeling! The first principle I keep coming up here is to solve your own pain points and then figure out if there's a market.

I didn't hear this in the video but it would have been helpful to know what Justin did when customers went to the initial landing page and placed their orders. From what I understand there wasn't an actual product at that point so did he tell customers that the product was still in development. Or I suppose would the landing page have made it clear that the product didn't exist yet? Would love to know the answer if anyone knows.

My Channel is geared towards helping channels grow on YT and I think this is a great topic to bring up. I love how he mentioned that rather than putting more money into the broth product continue to expand, such as soups. Definitely gets your mind going. So how does this relate to being a YT creator... I think the sooner we can turn our channels into a business the better. However, I think this video is a good reminder to be innovative and punch fear in the face if we want to be different. Awesome video and very inspirational.

So the initial step is to spend $100 on PPC ads that drive to a landing page to take pre-orders to validate? Do you actually charge people's credit cards or just get their info? How do you respond when they ask "When do I get the product I ordered? Would this technique work for digital products (eBooks, online courses, etc.)?
