Tantrum was a robot that i thought would be a fun concept but not something that would perform super well, but seeing tantrum have the underdog run of a lifetime put the biggest smile on my face back in the day, even sawblaze finally winning the giant nut didnt get me as hype as seeing tantrum winning it

They would've judged the flips as spectacular, but ultimately undamaging. Tantrum inflicted much more damage. Also, Tantrum kept attacking. Hydra played scared in the second half.

Tantrum was the aggressor and controlled Hydra. Plus dealt more damage. The only thing Hydra had in it's favor was flips, but nothing else. Hydra basically was the whole fight just spinning on itself waiting for Tantrum to attack, what counts in Battlebots is Damage, Control and Aggression, Tantrum won in all of them.

Though Tantrum got flipped quite a few times, it wasn't any worse for wear. Hydra on the other hand effectively lost its ability to do a "clean flip" as it's flipper got bent upwards and recieving some damage to its bodywork which made it vulnerable to further attacks. Considering Hydra had to and continued to play on the defensive, it would be very unlikely it could of turned things around and would of received more damage by that point if it tried to recklessly charge Tantrum after it received it's damage. Hydra did not seem to have the intention of knocking Tantrum out but instead win via points + timeout so the moment it took damage from an opponent set on winning, the strategy collapsed.

It may not be that big of a deal, but I would’ve said Tantrum won the battle. It is very close though, especially with Tantrum dealing damage to Hydra. Remember, with a bot as durable as Tantrum, it’s hard for Hydra to really hurt it since flippers don’t exert a lot of damage, only mild fall damage. Hydra, in my opinion, had control of most of the match, as Tantrum was both in the air and upside down for quite some time. But aggression really hurt Hydra, since it mostly waited for Tantrum to come to them instead of ramming into them.

I like Tantrum. The team did not have a Tantrum, caused other teams to express Tantrums and won through superior positioning and wearing their opponents down as opposed to trying to just ram everything with a set of murder-y helicopter blades.

I agree with you all. Hydra should have been the winner against Tantrum. But judges scored the fight right, unfortunately. The points are scored in 3 categories: DAMAGE, CONTROL and AGGRESSION. Tantrum eventually showed more control and was more aggressive. And damaged Hydra's weapon a bit. Hydra's flips did not damage Tantrum significantly and it was fully functional after the flips. Even though Hydra could have won the DAMAGE category slightly, it lost the CONTROL and AGGRESSION categories. As the fight was scored 'right' according the scoring rules, do you think the scoring rules should change?

I think the ruling makes sense. While Hydra wasn't significantly damaged, they were forced to play extremely defensively/reactively because Tantrum had excellent aggression and control over the pace of the match. They also capitalized on openings very well for the most part. While it's clear that Hydra landed the most hits, Tantrum was more or less unfazed, so I agree that 2/3 categories belonged to Tantrum.

I think the rules and the ruling are fine. Hydra landed a bunch of hits that looked impressive but didn't significantly damage Tantrum's operability. But when Tantrum bent Hydra's flipper upwards it made Hydra more vulnerable, which to me gives it an advantage in the damage category. Aggression obviously went to Tantrum and control was a wash.

Saying "Hydra should have won" and "Judges scored the fight right "unfortunately" makes no sense. It's not spectacularity that wins fights, it's aggression, control and damage. Tantrum won in all of them. Hydra is a control bot and was controlled by Tantrum half of the fight. It's a Tantrum win for sure no matter how much people love fancy flips.

Definitely a close call between Hydra and Tantrum, think it all hinges on whether Tantrum’s disc is still working at the end or not, you can see it slow down and stop in the last 15 seconds. That would even up the damage that likely swung it for Tantrum as I could see control and aggression going either way.

Tantrum won the fight against Hydra. Hydra didn't do more than sit in the middle of the arena spinning on itself and then flip several times Tantrum. Meanwhile Tantrum was the aggressor working to find an opening to strike. Damaged Hydra's skirt and flipper. Controlled Hydra half the fight - when Hydra is the control bot. Tantrum win by far. Fancy flips don't win fights unless you actually damage the opponent or control the fight. Hydra didn't do any of that.

The Hydra fight was super entertaining. I think Hydra probably had the win, but I could see some wiggle room for it to go either way. The bent flipper is not a good look. That said, it looked like Tantrums drum wasn't spinning at the end. I will say though, no team has EVER impressed me as much with their driving and positional control. Their driver is fantastic.
