1971 in Saint Charles, Missouri, I was in summer school when the prototype F15 was flown out of Lambert in a C5 to Edwards. All we heard was this big roar, saw a big shadow, and our AFJROTC instructor told us what we just witnessed. I was 16. That was 51 years ago. Hard to believe. Then I realized, the B52 - is 70 years old, the C5 is 54 years old, and the C130 is 68 years old and STILL in production!

The B and D models are the trainers for the A and C models, respectively. Although they are both fully combat capable, the intended purpose of the rear cockpit is to carry a flight instructor to help transition a pilot who's new to the F-15 into flying the Eagle solo, or to make civilians sick on PR or familiarization flights 😁 Also gives the enlisted personnel good incentives to shine, as familiarization flights are awarded to outstanding enlisted personnel as a reward for excellence.

Had a friend who was an F16 pilot/instructor at DM in the early '00s. At the time l had a beach house on a well known New England resort. l offered him and his family an entire summer there in return for an hour's ride in the two seat, trainer model. He told me he'd be glad to take me up on it if it wouldn't cause him to be court martialed out of his career. He retired a couple of years ago as a full colonel, one of the most modest and quiet people l've known. Can't reveal his call sign which l learned only recently from a chance meeting with one of his former students at a Costco gas station.

Did you know the first of the F-15 A/B had it's speed brake was 3 feet shorter, in the early 80's the speed breaks were mortified to what you see today. One correction on your comment on speed brake, the speed break control is a toggle swatch on the right throttle and can be set to any position you desire, use your left thumb and push up and hold and release it to any position you desire. Push the toggle aft and it will lower to any position as desired. I spent 22 years as a Crew Chief on 15 A/B/C/D/E. it's old now but still has a punch.

My dad was assigned to weapons installation on the F-15 at Luke AFB in the late 1970's, early 1980's. Because of him, my second favorite jet is the F-15, and my favorite is the F-22. I love both of those planes! I could not imagine being the pilot of either of them. That would be an awesome experience, even though the F-15 is almost 50 years old and the F-22 is almost 20 years old. I can only imagine what has to be in service these days, as it seems we don't hear of the technology until at least 10-15 years later...

Amazing that they don’t ever mention the cost per hour of operation all these aircraft have. The F-22 and F-35 have eye watering operational cost and both have low availability due to parts unavailability. The F-35 has a history of reliability issues.

The F-15, regardless of variant, has many enemies. The SU-30, the SU-34, the MIG 35, the SU-35, the SU-57 and to heck with the Chinese. The last two aircraft on this list are capable of giving the F--22 Raptor a real run for it's money too. Best to do your research instead of just listening to the propaganda. I love the F-15, I think it represents America, It's a beautiful kick ass aircraft. Just like the F-4 Phantom was in her day. Well, I'm just a retired U.S. Navy Airman, still interested in those flying machines. Good day.

F35 with its long range reach - it's almost untouchable. But I enjoy the F22's maneuverability.
@NationChosenByGod
@NationChosenByGod Жыл бұрын
@@rleon8183 Let's hypothetically say this? The F-35 can't supercruise, so the F-35 has to use fuel given its large fuel tank to travel long distances; the F-22 has a fuel tank that is not as big as the F-35, but it can supercruise which requires little to no fuel consumption. Is it logical to say that the F-22 has a better range envelope than any current fighters including the F-35?

The real reason for the cost is the long term government policy of reducing competition in all aspects of government contracting while allowing every preferred contractor to get away with massive cost overruns which are never seriously contested. The reason for this is that Congress knew they were going to do it when they approved the contracts.
