I started playing in January of this year, it is surreal to me that the game takes so much mental fortitude to climb above the rank of gold. I was bronze 3 for about three months; fighting through yuumi bots and griefers. I then boosted my account to gold and have since maintained around gold 3-gold 2 elo since May over roughly 400 games. Is there any advice you can give to those seeking the next step towards diamond in the sense of your "bronze videos"? As much as I disagree with those videos on the basis of my own kda, and cs/pm, and g/pm stuck in bronze back then, what changes in this higher elo? Is it the same? does one magically climb overcoming the incompetence of of your teammates and do kills just fall into your hands from mis-tethering?

@@xiqy1959 basically , u can get away with power climbing with the jungle role as a fast farming champ like master yi or xin zhao from iron to plat 1 and u dont even need to gank alot . by the time teamfights start in mid to late game , u will be strong enough to 1vs5 , but u should still wait for ur team to be nearby to help u . the first item u need is blade of the ruined king and the rest of the items with hp like black cleaver to shred through any tanky build and divine sunderer so u wont get one shot in teamfights . lethal tempo made champions like yi and xin zhao super broken . from daimond and above , yi becomes way less valuable , becuz players are more prepared for teamfights with cc champs that have stuns , roots and knock ups . xin zhao will still be viable , but for ganks , u will have trouble chasing enemies after they flash away . basically , in low elo u can just play safe and power farm until mid to late game and win teamfights . in high elo , u have to interact with ur teammates and predict wen they are about to get ganked , ( for example , if the enemy hasnt been seen in the map , they might be on their way to gank them ) so that u can counter gank them and have a chance of winning that fight . teamfights are usually wat win games and if ur team is behind by the time objectives spawn , ur opponents will take everything and keep increasing their lead . btw , using ur teleport on wards that are in bushes near ur teammates is the most effective way to turn a 1vs1 in top lane , into a 2vs1or a 2vs2 in bot lane , into a 3vs2 . i recommend learning the jungle role in low elo , becuz in high elo u will need to keep an eye on ur jungle so that u can be ready to help him in a fight wen he steps into a dangerous area like the river

Neckless is an absolute inspiration man. The ending really makes me happy, "It's not what I learned about the game; it's what I learned about learning." Seeing someone develop a better mentality because of league is so cool. I don't know if Neckless is still responding to comments, but if he is, I'd like to ask what were the key things you learned about learning? I know you touched a bit on it in the video, but I'd love to hear more about it.

Thanks for sharing! Very inspirational. I'm curently in G1 EUW (and gold player for many seasons..) and hit the BO for plat many times, got to P4 with Akshan and felt all the way back to G1 when I swaped to learn Azir (droped to 30%WR over 40games then back to ±52%). What you said is very inspiring. I tend to think "I'm playing OK, but bruisers are just stronger and my jungler always int me", but deeply inside I know I'm lying to myself cause with any champion I should be able to climb ifI truely deserve it by having a clear lane dominance and good usage of it later on in the game. I don't really have questions. It's more of a thank you message, to both of you. I'll (re)-start working on the fundamentals and focus truely on learning from every game more than just "win" when I over performed or my opponents were especially bad. So thanks for that. Hope to get to low diamond for next year!

There used to be an Overwatch Coach by the name of Jayne. He used to say: "If one person on your team does something stupid, it's a mistake. If the whole team does something stupid, it's a strategy." Sounds like this would have been incredibly powerful to hear for his Diamond climb.

This video is really important to me as I was at a difficult point of my soloQ journey. Ive been stuck in gold since forever until this season where I really tried to improve since my life is shit outside of my job and I needed something. I picked Xayah, a champion that I love but never dared to really play because I viewed the adc role as a joke (I used to play mainly top), along with my trusty ezreal that I played a lot previously because it is the 1v2 botlaner and as toplaner I couldnt rely on my support. I watched a TON of coaching and gameplay videos before the start of the season and until march, I still watch a few regularly (mainly Curtis and Saber). After the easy and quick climb to gold4 the knowledge I accumulated helped me breeze through gold4 to gold1, feeling like I got really better at the game. I stuck in gold1 a little while, until a few videos about mentality helped me unlock my brain and I reached P3. Since then I am oscillating between P4 and P3 where I lose a lot half the time because I am lost when my supp picks an enchanter and ignores the lane and half the time because I carry a bad game but I end up greeding for an objective or messing up on my mechanics and I end up depressed by my poor performance. Several times during the year I had a few days or even a week during which I lose nearly all my games in these 2 ways, which always hurts my mental, it happened again very recently where for the first time this year I thought about giving up my champion and the adc role. Watching this video made me realize several things. I will not give up on Xayah, it is the champion I love, if I force myself into something else I will not have fun, which is counter-productive. I have been looking and experimenting for a 3rd champ for a while, which will be Lucian since it is the 3rd adc I like the most. It also solidifies my player identity as spellcasting adc (I really enjoyed lethality Xayah, RIP) player with an agressive playstyle and outplay potential. I need to be less hard on myself, yes I make mistakes, but I need to understand why they happen and work on fixing them rather than being sad and angry. And of course I should be improving my fundamentals, positioning, map awareness, decision making and so on. Hopefully I will keep this in mind, so I can have fun while learning, in defeat like in victory.

Really love these videos. They always drop when I'm struggling. Hit diamond two months ago, and peaked d2 ~2 weeks later, but ever since then, despite my efforts to focus on my own improvement, it's been really rough, and I've been around d4-d3 mmr. Gonna try to really stop caring about how I may look and just properly commit to improving again, especially since I've realized that I kinda stopped adapting to the chaos and went back to wanting to play things my way, getting frustrated at teammates getting in the way of how I think the game should play out. Thanks Curtis and Neckless, hoping that by the end of the season I can at least be back in d2 😼

Interesting one. I main Cho'Gath top, a very different experience than an Irelia or a Yone. I like both those champs, but they didn't quite play to my strengths. For my Cho games, the key thing to getting a high win rate was about psychology. I usually main support, so my way of thinking about the game was more slow and macro oriented. Cho is obviously a slow, very telegraphed champ, but I found that this was something I could use to my advantage. Its a strength, not a weakness. With my R button doing ~1k true damage on command, I found that I could very easily unsettle my opponent. Especially once its happened to them already. The basic wave mechanics I learned in support suddenly became extremely powerful. All I need to do is get my opponent to around 60% hp, with the wave in an advantageous position. Once they know I can just push R on them in those circumstances, the psychological warfare operation already has them basically defeated. People underestimate the Cho pick. They don't realize I can push E, flash, W, and then instantly use my buffered auto attack. They're now silenced and slowed, and its impossible for them to dodge my Q, and the last sound they will hear is "OHM-NOM-NOM-NOMNOMNOMNOM". By then, its already too late. The psychological warfare has already set in, and my opponent is very afraid of me slowly walking up to them like the terminator. There's something very satisfying about making your opponent learn to fear your big, clunky, waddling, 6k HP champ and the sudden flash E W aa, followed by a final "OHM-NOM-NOMNOMNOM". It really gets in their head. Average Cho gameplay. So fun.

The issue I had was back when I played every champ I didn't have a process of learning the game. Sure I put time into every champion but that doesn't mean I learn every champion. My main issue was that I didn't have a champion I had any sort of mastery on. Looking back I would much rather have good mastery on 1 champion than what I had. Ultimately it is very helpful to understand what every champion wants but its only useful if you know what every champion wants through the lens of your own champion and how it relates to you.

And magnus carlsen somehow knows better how the pieces move. Strategy games come with knowledge. You can’t win at lol without knowledge. And you don’t need to play a champ to know what it does. You need to know yours so that you can focus on the enemy champ better. And actively learn what it does. Not just look at it.

Hey Neckless how did you practice AA to enemy champions between Q's on minions? That accuracy test also helped with that? And when do you like going Gore over Shieldbow?
@NonEntropy
@NonEntropy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jo Jo, the human benchmark aim test DEFINITELY helped with that. You need too have insane mouse accuracy to be able to AA while Q'ing. As I mentioned in the video its very hard to practice Irelia mechanics in practice tool but there is a great drill you can do for this. It requires you to setup practice dummies. First, use 3 enemy practice dummies between the ally mid T1 and T2 towers to prevent your wave from coming to lane. Then, set the final enemy dummy in the middle of the lane. Lastly, use an ally dummy a couple hundred units away from the enemy dummy in the direction of your nexus. If you placed the ally dummy correctly the enemy wave should target your ally dummy and group up perfectly around the enemy dummy. Use the practice tool to give yourself level 9 and buy full damage item. Once you've done the setup you can do the drill. Start by standing in auto attack range of the dummy. AA the dummy then instantly Q to a minion. If AA>Q correctly you can animation cancel the auto. You will know if you did this correctly because you will see the damage from the auto attack and damage from Q showing at the same time. If you want to by hyper efficient you can do human benchmarks between waves. When you get good muscle memory with the AA>Q combo you can then try Q'ing to a minion>AA>then instantly Q away to AA animation cancel. Over enough reps this drill will give you quite good muscle memory for Q'ing minions while AA'ing champs. Sorry for the wallaby's of text but there is not easy way to explain what I mean but I hope this helps.

Hey! So at point something along these lines were said: "League made me unhappy (in life), but now it doesn't make me unhappy, and I actually enjoy it now" What exactly caused this change? Was it the focus on improving (and not caring about LP) or what was it? I often find myself sad that I couldn't carry the game as much as I wanted to. If I play with friends, I feel like I let them down if we lose, (I'm the best of the group) but they usually just say "It doesn't matter, it's just a game". But when I go to bed I think about the things I could've improved so that we would've won. This became a long rant, but tl;dr How do you get a healthy relationship with LoL?

Hey, is it possible to make a video like this for someone that got up in the ladder by the likes of a Malzahar main? Is there one in the MLA? I feel like although the journey is not so different, I feel a little bit lost at what to focus rn as a Gold I to make that climb to D4 as a Malzahar OTP.

I m a garen conqueror otp and my champ is very straight forward. I got from plat to master 200 lp in 700 games. The main difference between high elo player and low elo player is the mentality. Ofc you need practice to improve, but you can stay hardstuck for 2000 games if you have a bad mentality. The key in to acknowledge that your allies are as bad as your opponent and as you. So whenever your allies troll, cry at how bad you are, not at how bad your allies are. If you want your allies dont listen to you, improve on your communication, or on you ability to handle things solo, or listen to them instead. And don’t learn how to win fights with your champ, learn how to gather ressources with your champ. You don’t need to gather ressources for yourself. Gathering ressources for your team works as well. lol is a strategy game. You don’t have to be good at fighting to win. There are a bunch of guides on youtube that give a bunch of advice. Watch them and train on each of them individually. Play slow, play around your goal, fight with a purpose or step back and figure what your goal is. Whenever you die or lose something, question yourself: did you have every info? Was there a way for you to predict the outcome? If you knew it was a gamble, was the gamble worth it? Would you change the way you played? Was there a way for you to gather more info / better info? There are billions of way to improve at lol. But they all come down to 1 method: making mistakes , figuring your mistakes, fixing your mistakes. And set your dopamine to enjoy gathering ressources well, or to fighting well, not to gathering ressources or winning fight. And winning game is only a way for you to get stronger opponents and allies, you don’t need to hard focus on it.

Hi, Neckless here. My main goal was to play as few games as possible with low intensity. I play(ed) *minimum* of 1 3 block a day. If I have the energy I will play another block. I have a lot of issues with sleep so I struggle with playing many high intensity games. As long as you're learning as much as possible from each individual game 3 games a day is plenty. Hope that helps.

@@NonEntropy That makes sense. I'm a super busy college student so I can sometimes only get 1 or 2 games in a day before I feel too tired to play well.

@@coolbrotherf127 Thats a tough situation for sure. If I were in your place I would make sure that the games I do get to play are as high quality as possible. With the reviews try and get as much value out of them as possible. One thing I love doing is watching high Elo vods. I use a website called league of graphs. It lets you download replays for high Elo games. Maybe find some vods of good players playing your champion. Focus on the details in their laning phase then try to replicate it for as much value from your games as possible.
@coolbrotherf127

@@NonEntropy For sure, I've been using league of graphs for a while now and I've learned a lot from watching the high ELO one tricks on my favorite champs. I play ADCs bot mainly and for sure the hardest part of that lane is how inconsistent the supports are. One game it's some cracked Pyke OTP and next game it's an autofilled jungler first timing Zilean. I went from Silver to Plat though this season and looking to hit diamond on season 13. I'll probably grind hard during the next summer while I'm not so busy.

There's not an exact answer for that, there are many many factors that can affect the speed in which you climb. How many games you play a day and how well you're playing compared to the people in your ELO, etc.

It took me about 7 months to get from bronze to plat. Although at the time I was playing and reviewing almost every day. So I'd say about 12 months for a more laid back approach. Either way it'll probably take a few months of consistent work as getting over that gold level barrier can take some time as an improving player.

Because only like 0.5 of player base (if even that) manage to do it. It's like with any sport. It's an accomplishment since not everyone manages to do it playing on a high level. Not to mention you are able to create income from becoming good, ie coaching.

In those kinds of talks, in my opinion, one thing is missing and not emphasized much. Necklace mentioned it, but didn't specify "some people have jobs and families and can't commit to that". How many hours per week did you spend on LoL (hours playing + hours improving/watching vods)? I feel for many people that would be very eye-opening (cause "14 months" can not be as strong of a statement). Maybe some of the players would drop their ego ("I need to be good/I need to win/I need to get X rank") to something like "Oh, I will not be spending 30-40-50h+/week on this game (like a second full-time job or more) to get diamond+, I prefer to find another hobby or actually start a side-hustle and earn money - while playing league only when I'm tired) It's just one aspect of climbing - time, but it works like procrastinating - how does procastinating happen? People think about how much work there is to be done/how much time it will take. Video games are fun, but they're not meant to take over your life/all of your free time. So my take is - make it easier for people to "quit" climbing and enjoy the game for what it is - just a spare time activity. Tell them about hours per week - as something tangible. Btw. it's still doable - just add a subtitle when he mentions that some people have jobs: "roughly X h/week of playing + Y h/week of reviewing)

Isn’t life meaningless? I don’t recommend playing lol if you have no job and going to starve to death. But isn’t it fine to engage as much time as you want into improving on a strategy game? I spent dozens of hour folding papers. Did origami grew me up? Not at all! Did i enjoy it? Yes! Would I do it again? Of course!
