You have Formula One races and then you have Formula One races. It always varies from a dull follow-up of cars, a parade, right to a fierce competition at knife's edge. The Grand Prix of San Marino on the Italian track of Imola during the 1985 F1 season belongs to the category of crazy races. Before the race took place; it was perhaps possible to make a guess about the outcome, but during the race it really turned out to be impossible to guess who would win first prize. Even more so; the outcome after all the participants had passed the finish line was not engraved in stone. The Grand Prix of San Marino, that was held kilometres outside of the Republic of San Marino on Italian soil, knew a very tight racing outcome. One which kept the racing enthusiasts on the edge of their seat. Not because of one factor but because of several factors. That is why the Grand Prix of San Marino in 1985 is written in the history books as one race that was very intense to follow. From the beginning right till far after the moment that the finishing flag had stopped. One of the main characters was the Belgian Formula One racing driver Thierry Boutsen. What his role was in making the Grand Prix of San Marino a real thriller is told to you by Autovisie journalist Sjoerd Van Bilsen in episode 310 of Sjoerds Weetjes. Sjoerd takes you back to 1985 when the Belgian racing driver Thierry Boutsen took part with an Arrows BMW A8 and he tells you the story at the side of the original Formula One racing car that still exists after 37 years. Even more so, the racing car is in the hands of the Dutch company Parabolica. That company cherishes the 1,200 horsepower strong 1,5-litre four cylinder engined Formula One racing car. And even wants to take it back to the racing track. The famous Louwman museum in The Hague, The Netherlands has the car on display until the 4th of September.
