When I see stuff like this, it really saddens me, Nigeria is so blessed, I leave in Uk , and Uk whether is seasonal, when it come to growing stuff like this. Uk imports huge amounts of this stuff . Nigeria can grow English apples, grapes ( white and red) , pomegranate, carrots, pineapple, watermelon.Cnahewnut, peaches, peanuts, and that is not even counting our own native varieties fruits . And I am here in Uk , seen a lot Nigerians coming here for care jobs , factories jobs . So sad .

South Africa and Kenya are doing well at that, they have a good reputation. America had an agreement with Africa to export agricultural products to America, however Nigeria didn't do well because in general farmers don't care for quality, packaging and presentation when it comes to exports and they "lost out" to more professional competitors.

Oga Weng, shares more in common with Asians than just a surname. The organisation and layout of his farm is something I would like to some farmstead in Asia. May God continue to bless and prosper him and his family. I can see where Amos gets his intellect from, well done Papa Weng 👏. The thing is in the West they manufacture a whole range of products from these fruit and herbs. They can dry some of them, they make preserves like jam and marmalade (I'm sure those items are imported into the country). They are used in cakes, sweet pastries like raspberry tart, pickles etc. You get the picture, Oga Weng is barely "scratching the surface"!

@@DavidNkwa Oga Weng may already know what I'm about to say, nevertheless here goes: 1) Fruit syrups can be used to make brandy (a clear alcoholic drink) - fruits typically used include apple, pear, plum, energy, peach or apricot. 2) Fruits juices - eg orange, raspberry, blackcurrant, pomegranate etc. 3) Cakes and desserts use dry or fresh fruits. 4) Marinades. Marinades are an easy way to boost the flavour of lean proteins. A basic component are citrus juices, ginger etc. 5) Dairy Fruits can be added to ice creams, smoothies, sorbets and yogurt. I believe yogurts are popular in the north. 6) Cakes/pastries Fruite puree can be used as a replacement for refined sugar, examples include bananas, apples, pears, pineapples, dates, figs, mango, papaya and pumpkin. The Eastern Nigerian abandoned inherited fruit trees like you stated. That Apple tree is wambugu Apple from Keyan. Berries and other extic Fruits grow in Africa provided you modify the soil. The problem is getting land. Igbo sold their lands. We need proper enlightenment / education.👍👍💪💪👌💘

David, I would like to commend you for what you do and I hope you continue to bring awareness to what God blessed Nigeria with. I am sure there are many farmers in Nigeria and the unsung heroes of a society marred with bad leadership and shared stupidity. Anyway, Bravo this gentleman. Can you do a story on Acacia Senegal also known as Arabic gum. I did some research on it several years ago and I think Nigerians should be made aware of its economic potential to induce them to go into Arabic gum farming even if it is on a small scale.

Awesome content David. I like your idea of documenting because that is how we all rise even if it means there is a small payment for the material. The other part is when we have expertise like this, those in the diaspora should seriously consider how to finance and invest so that you scale up production. All this knoweldge is great and critical but will not move the needle if we continue with just subsistence farming. Organic vegetables and fruits will fetch a premium in Europe and the US and I am sure there is enough of a market in Africa too. The last thing i will say is we need to TRUST each other and if any business is formed there should be legal documents and lawyers involved to clearly spell who owns what, the structure and yes what happens if the business is dissolved.
