That is a pretty amazing light kit and can see how your choices really fit the documentary approach. I’m currently piecing together my own lighting kit but it will be mainly for short films. I would be quite interested to see how you pack your PeliCase with that lighting list. Mine will be slightly different but if I could scale down all the individual boxes into maybe 2 Peli cases I’d be well keen :)

It was a good video and interesting to watch as I do something similar except I put my light stands in the case as well. I have that Peli Air case but I changed that to use for my second case and I use a Think Tank Manager 30 now. It is better for me because I need the big front pockets for mirrors. My main light is a Smallrig 450b, it is the power of the 600x but much smaller to pack. I also have two ifootage 130/b (smallest most powerful lights there are) and I think I will get a Molus X100. I have a few tiny RGB lights. My light stands are 1 x Matthews baby C-stand plus extention and 2x Merf stands. I also have some rods to make boom poles and arms.
@GidonLasch7 ай бұрын
Hey there! Really appreciate you sharing your approach. The Think Tank Manager 30 switch caught my eye, especially for those big front pockets you mentioned - been eyeing those mirrors myself after seeing them showcased at a fair. Thinking of making the leap and adding them to my setup too! Your gear selection sounds intriguing, especially with that power-packed combo of lights. Curious, do you control them all with an app? That would be incredibly handy. Also, I’d love to see how you fit everything into your case. Got any visuals on that? It’s always great to get a peek at how others organize their gear.
@marcusavanti9027 ай бұрын
@@GidonLasch My bag is due for a reorganisation. I will take a picture after that. I am waiting for a delivery of new poles. The most difficult issue for me to solve is how to have a back light with a 2-3 metre boom arm. I ordered new poles for that. Once I can work that out I will reorganise my bag and take a picture. Its very hard to have a Menace Arm in a small bag. I want to only use the Matthews Merf Stand which has a capacity of 4 kilos but that must include the back light and poles connectors etc and a water sand bag perhaps. I might try to make a ratchet strap system so I don't need the water sand bag or use a back light that is so light weight I don't need a counter weight but testing is the only way to find out. After I test (to know roughly the weight it can hold) I will see if the Zhiyun Molus X100 with softbox and grid at under 1/2 kilo is light weight enough. I will not use the battery but a very long USB-C PD power cable. It saves weight and the battery does not last long enough. Currently the only poles I use are carbon fibre that come in two parts and I use them to hold 40 inch x 6ft Photoflex black/white panel material. Thos poles are great in that they are super light weight but they can not hold any weight they would just bend or break. I just have acrylic mirrors custom cut to the size of the front pockets. So much cheaper than buy those sets. Just use a Mini Matthellini Clamp to hold it. I do have one Mirror by Dedolight that is 50 cm x 50 cm but I will not take that to a shoot very often. If I had a grip truck or car I would but mostly I need to travel by taxi or Tube or Train. I also like the Think Tank bag for that reason. Once a Taxis driver asked me if I was not scared of being robbed when I had my Peli Air case with me. The Think Tank also has a built in lock I can use on the train to put around a pole to make it hard to steal (they must cut it and it is metal wire) if a group tries to distract me and steal it. All of my lights have App control but not the same App. For me the size of the light modifier and the size and power of the lights is more important. Smallrig 450 is the most powerful light that packs down AND it has the smallest Fresnel for a 600w equivalent light. Also the iFootage 130 lights with the 15-50° Intensifier are the smallest most powerful for the size. I have 3 x NEEWER RGB62 very cheap App control lights for adding to practicals etc. For me the App control is most important for a hair light and practicals. The Smallrig 450 also has a little wired remote I use as its just easy, as well as App control. Overall I might make two cases. One for "daylight" when I have big windows to fight with ie I need the Smallrig 450 and my Profoto Monolight. Then another for not day light. However the great thing about a mirror is you can punch more than one light into it if you need more directional power. I wish I could work out a way to have more than 3 light stands in my bag but I have given up on that now. The best general solution I have come up with is using a clamp on a chair I find at the location.
@GidonLasch7 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing all of that! I am quite amazed at how well thought out your lighting setup is. The menace arm is a lovely addition. I always use the Avenger one and have a big counterweight to hang bigger lights, but for backlighting, your solution sounds great! I see how you really took everything into account when building your kit. Can't wait to see how it looks.
@marcusavanti9027 ай бұрын
@@GidonLasch I have the Avenger Boom Arm, the Matthews Boom Arm, 2 x Manfrotto that come apart the bigger one and the smaller gauge one. I have several others as well. And I have Auto Poles with extensions. I have rolling cases or bags for all of them so I can take them on location but lighting will always now get smaller and more powerful. The quest is how to make the Grip smaller and lighter than the old school heavy weight gear. I am in England so I have to order specialized Grip gear from the USA or Germany. It takes a long time thanks to Brexit. My mirror from Dedolight took 6 months to arrive !!!
