How this young couple is pioneering organic farming in Kerala

Vani and her husband Vijith, based in Haripad (Kerala), are pioneering advocates for organic farming. They began their journey with a shared vision to transform agriculture and revive native crop species, with a focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The couple manages an integrated farm that serves as a model of biodiversity, featuring over 5,000 trees, organic manure, and various crops.
The Kerala couple are also dedicated to preserving native plant varieties and have established 10 ponds on their land to support local flora and fauna. Their sustainability practices extend to energy use, with biogas and solar plants providing eco-friendly solutions on-site. Beyond their environmental efforts, they welcome community engagement, especially for children, to promote nature awareness and host eco-camps, such as the “Mango Showers Camp” which focuses on immersive nature activities​.

Great to see the farm culture growing in India. The city people who live for fashion, ego, shopping are destined for physical and mental health problems and no government is telling people that not consumerist city life is not the answer. But India seems to have a huge obesity problem due to overconsumption of rice compared to meat, eggs, dairy. Even this woman is fat. People lack the common knowledge that you can't eat grains in such huge amounts. The central part of daily food was never huge amount of grains which only happened in the last century or more. Additionally even supposed farmers like these aren't working as hard as people always did. This needs some change but changing die is more important. And the modern "vegetable" cooking oils are also to blame. Historically, most people were naturally non-fat and therefore attractive, few lazy rich people were fat. Now most people are fat and look bad and live in a state of tiredness or illness without thriving.

@@ashnasudhakar4703 In most cases among fat or partially or wholly diabetic Indians who seem to growing in huge numbers it is due to wrong diet and sedentary life. All the causes you think (like hormonal issues) originate from wrong diet. Only rarely it is truly some defect from birth or some exceptionally unlikely cause. The good news is, now people do not need to resign to fate and become fat and ill, the good thing is, it is entirely under people's control. People simply need to eat less grains as it was for the entire human history and eat more dairy, eggs, meat, fish as the main part of diet, to cook using fat from dairy or rendered animal fat or use unprocessed coconut oil or similar good oils and live a life that has adequate physical activity. "Judging" is wrong only if it is done with ill-intent. Do you want majority of current and upcoming people of your country to look fat and be considered unappealing by the world and to have physical or mental health consequences from becoming fat due to overeating rice and cooking with modern "vegetable" oils? Do you want majority of people of your country to have low strength per body weight and live in tiredness or illness or do you want them to thrive? You can't go on eating heaps of grains that human body never developed to handle while also doing less physical work that the human body is made for.
